Matt has different takes, but that's ok. He had Slater as a top 3 player for him last year and that's looking great.

He also hears character info that is worth keeping in mind.

Haven’t followed the Phils real closely in about 10 years but that fanbase seems to be getting dumber. Since when has loading up a team with power hitters and no pitching worked?

Write it in pen, Ojabo is the Eagles' second round pick.

The Colts took a DE who tore his Achilles in round 2. Dayo something. He wasn’t nearly as good as Ojabo.

Interesting they call him LB.  Is he projecting more as a LB?  3-4 OLB?

Yeah, that guy.

He’s an edge: DE in a 4-3 or a 3-4 OLB.

The contract is plenty bad for the Browns.

If he doesn’t work out then it’s an albatross of a contract.  I don’t think it’s that bad of a deal if he works. The QB franchise tag has increased the last 2 seasons at about $3 million a year. I think that the $46 million average will be where the tag is at the end of the deal. There’s no question that there’s a boom or bust risk to it. Absent the off field issues I think Watson’s play has merited the deal but I don’t think it is a terrible projection.  I am happy he’s not on the Eagles.

To change the subject from mediocrity to hopeful optimism.

The one ranking that stuck out to me as jarring was Deonte Wyatt in Round 2, and only one DT as a Round 1 value - Davis.    Matt is also exceedingly non-plussed with the LB corps overall.   Only 7 ranked in the first 3 days.   I like all of the ones he pointed to, but that has me worried that we will miss out on all of them, as the 'value' is likely seen as being later.

I agree 100% with his QB round values.  No first rounders, only 3 2nd rounders... and Carson Strong in Round 3.  The knee has to be a concern.   A little surprised at his ranking of Ridder in Round 5, but frankly, none of these QBs get me excited... other than Strong's cannon.   But, a cannon with a bum wheel is an issue.   That said, as a 3rd round pick, he could be the steal of the draft if that knee holds up.  Work him into the NFL slowly and then let him get out there in Year 2.

Its odd that he lists Penning as a G. He can definitely play tackle.

It is batshit crazy that Brisker is all the way in round 3.

Pickens should probably be up in round 2, not 3.

Thomas Booker in round 6... he could be a day 2 pick, but if day 3 its likely earlier than round 6 imo.

I dont get what he is doing with athletes. He has Troy Anderson up in round 3 which can only be explained by the athleticism. But Woolen is down in round 4. He has Chig Okonkwo all the way down in round 6....

I think Malcolm Rodrigues was a productive and very athletic LB for an elite defense. He should be higher than round 5.

Beavers should be higher than round 5.

He doesnt even list Bubbaa Bolden at S.

Verone McKinley could probably go round 3. I dont see round 5...

And my final critique, maybe the worst of all- Kyle Phillips is going to go well before round 6.

Thinkgs I like.

Elam in round 1.

Taylor-Britt recognition- up in round 2.

Cam Jurgens properly adjusted up to round 3.

Coby Bryant properly ranked up in round 3.

Castro-Fields given some recognition in round 4. You have to respect PSU DBs these days.

Well, I don't see it working out for them.  And I am exceedingly glad he's not here.

Thats a nice list to work off of. There are a lot of guys Id have in different rounds.

I think Matt (NDIrish) was gone before you joined the Blog but I suspect you would have had some interesting conversations. Extensive filmwork and value boards.  Matt is better at some positions than others.

If Banner was still here, Metcalf would be an Eagle tomorrow. With Harden and Schwarber/Castellanos, dude hated being out of the spotlight for a single day.

Meh - it took losing 3 straight NFC Championships to do anything at WR.

I believe Ojabo can come back in 6 months. Thats normal these days. But I wouldnt expect him to have the same explosion at all next season.

I never say things like the bolded.  Sometimes we are surprised when a certain player drops like a rock.   Cornelious Ingram was a sure fire 2nd round pick... until he dropped to the 6th with a bad knee reconstruction and never amounted anything.  Time will tell.  There might be a reason he has him ranked so low.

Jeffrey Simmons tore his ACL leading up to the 2019 draft and still got drafted #19 by the Titans.  It just takes a team to understand they’re basically not going to get the full benefit of the player until 2023 — similar risk as Jameson Williams, although Williams obviously has longer recovery time

Could be the case. Im sure thats the case with Ed Ingram being off the board. And why he has Sanders lower. But he wrote about those guys having some sort of issues.

Has he written anything about Phillips off field yet?

We all like to take shots at Russel Wilson (for good reason), but this was a nice move.

I don’t think Wilson is a bad guy. I think he wants to be considered one of the greatest QBs and not feeling appreciated and being the center of the offense made him upset with Seattle. I don’t think he was ever terrible to anyone.

What is the cap for QB/NFL salaries? As in.. when will the cap be hit? 50m per year? 75m per year? At some point the ceiling has to be hit, right? At teh current pace, someone is going to be making 100m a year in the next 10 years. I just dont see that happening. Then again, years ago im sure no one saw anyone even making 1m a year, yet here we are.

An Achilles tear is going to impact his athleticism more than an ACL tear.  I think acls do not typically create long term loss of function the way an Achilles tear could.

Yup.  People have to start getting used to paying the top QBs $40M+ per year.

Rodgers, Mahomes, Dak, Josh Allen and Watson are now all under contract at over $40M per season.  Other guys like Ryan and Big Ben have been $40M cap hits.  Even Kirk Cousins is $35M.  I did a ‘WTF’ when I first heard Watson’s number, but if he’s a top-8 QB for those 5 years it will be a solid contract for the Browns, believe it or not.

The days of the $30M QB didn’t last long.

You’re right of course, but I’m taking the "full recovery” prognosis of the tweet at face value
