I think people are reading too much into it. I think it’s as simple as they would rather keep their business quiet and not have people know they missed on targets.

Thats exactly why they text-bombed their favorite media members about their in-season extensions being a big part of their FA plan.

These seem contradictory.  Either they want their business quiet, OR they only want their side of their business out there.   They know that they had targets that they missed on, for whatever reason.  What's the harm in having that out there?  Not much harm, really.  But, they are worrying about what people are saying.  They need to worry about their plan, and how they are moving forward based on where things are now.   No need to worry about the narrative, just keep your eye on the ball.

It’s not contradictory. Their business was already out there so they decided to try and control the narrative. It’s pretty simple. And it takes minimal effort. It’s not like they spent any real time or energy to do it. It was a group text. Their eye remains on the ball.

I didn't say it takes time or energy to do it.  But, it illustrates that they were concerned about what the narrative was.  The new narrative won't change anyone's perspective on what they are doing right now or aren't, but instead they will see it for what it is... spin.  It really accomplishes nothing.

You overestimate the masses. If it didn’t help or didn’t change anyone’s perspective, they wouldn’t do it.

Perhaps.  There are worse things to be accused of.

He kinda of rigged the list to make it all Saints and LSU players even though he left out Odell who went to LSU.

Where is Bobby Wagner? Julio? ZaDarius Smith?

Julio is washed.

Why?  He'll be 30 before the season starts and is likely on the downward trend.  He'll be overpriced and ineffective by the time this team will be ready to really compete.  What's the value in adding him?

Mathieu is not declining. And S is one of the few positions where players can be effective into their 30’s.

Pricey?  He played on a one year $6M deal last year.  He will likely sign for somewhere close to that or maybe less this year.  With how much the top WRs are making this year that works out to a pretty decent deal for the Eagles for someone who would be a more than capable #2.

He'd come in and probably be more productive than Torrey Smith was for us.

Dude, move off AJ Green. He’s old and ineffective. I’d rather sign Zach Pascal.

The Eagles have apparently been in on most of the veteran WR moves. I wonder if they wind up settling for Jarvis Landry.

Landry is at a point where he wants to championship chase. Could see him going to Green Bay, back to Cleveland, maybe NE.

I just don’t see a name WR coming here. They are at the point of hoping for Pascal.

Howie should be in on any player he thinks is a good fit, but should stick with his reservation price and not overpay.

Eagles are still rebuilding, so you don't want to get locked into a bad contract three years from now, isn't that what everyone has whined about for two years?

They're going to have a top five, if not the top OL in the NFL, Mailata - Dickerson - Kelce - Seumalo - Lane, Driscoll, Herbig, Opeta, Awosika on the bench.

They don't need to make a splash move on offense, power RB, H-back, possession WR and some developmental guys.

On defense, they can add numbers in the draft, they have a bunch of athletic young DBs they picked up last year and a good start on the DL.

Fans always have a "bias for action," but often the best moves are the ones you don't make.

All players start to decline at a certain point.  It's biology.  He's about to be 30, that is normally a pretty good indicator of when the plateau starts to fall off.  And there are 'effective' safeties after age 30, but they generally become 'effective' in different ways past 30.  They often times move closer to the LOS.  We saw that with Dawk, we saw it with Jenkins.  Mathieu is about 5'9" and 175 lbs.  That's not a guy that you want to have close to the LOS.   So, is he going to be as effective as a centerfielder safety as he loses a step?

Is he declining now?  Yes. (If you say no... ask yourself why the Chiefs chose to replace Mathieu with Justin Reid this very offseason)  Is it very noticeable?  Not so much yet.   Will it start to become more noticeable in 2022?  It very well might.  Might it become even more noticeable in 2023?  Probably.  How much will he have declined by the time 2024 rolls around?  And how high will his salary be at that time, and would that money in 2024 be better spent on a safety that comes out in free agency in 2023 or 2024 and is only 25 or 26 years old?

Now is not the time to put big money into 30 year olds.  That's not what rebuilding teams do, or should do.  Shoot for a 26 year old, and pay top dollar?  Absolutely.  Shoot for a 30 year old and pay big money?  Definitely not.  No thanks.

The only disagreement I would have with you here is the usage of the word 'whine'.  Pointing out Howie's mistakes isn't whining.   He's made plenty of them.

Strangely, we are in lock step with the last line.  Howie needs to hold his water.

Zach Pascal 2021: 38 receptions, 384 yards & 3 TDs.

Our top 2 starting wrs are not going to combine for more production than last year due to the qb.  So I don’t see much point in shuffling the deck chairs at WR.

Completely illogical not to expect more production than last year especially if we sign AJ Green.   Not only is AJ Green an improvement at #2 WR for this team but DeVonta will be better in year 2 and Hurts will be better in his second year starting.

Didn’t say he was more effective. But he is younger, cheaper and knows Nick. AJ Green is gonna be 86 years old.

That draft is atrocious.

But but but... they said they were going to 'build around Hurts'.

Of course, I interpreted that as put pieces in place around the QB, and then swap out the QB whenever the opportunity avails itself.

Building around Hurts includes strengthening the defense.  Some argument that he already has done some of that. Signed one of the best sack artists available in free agency.  Last year,  he brought in my two favorite players, that sat because of Covid, in the secondary in Gowan and Vincent. Go watch 2019 film of each in college.  Vincent will see some FS snaps, I suspect.  Gowan could be an outside starting CB.  Maddox is backed up by Scott, whose biggest red flag is health and he also drafted McPhearson, who I think has the potential to be a better "B” CB than Nelson.  Anyone of those could fail too, but I liked each of them as prospects.  That is good return on third day picks.  Extended the right LB in Edwards, not Singleton.  Still massive holes in the D.   It is a three year rebuild but as much as I dislike Howie and the extension that Lurie gave him, I have to credit the moves made so far.

Which part?

This mindset worries me.  If McLane is right, that makes me think the Eagles would rather force something and potentially overpay rather than try and fail.

Is Zach Pascal someone that you really want to tie your horse to as a core member for whatever deal you want him on if you are signing him longer than one year?  And if you aren't signing him for more than one year then what is the advantage really of a WR that isn't as good as AJ Green?

AJ Green isn't going to be expensive.  AJ Green is old, but you aren't signing him to a long term deal.  AJ Green can still play at 34 well enough to be a valuable one year upgrade at the position lacking any real veterans.  He'd be a great cheap compliment for DeVonta.  He's be an excellent veteran mentor to both DeVonta and Quez.
