Glad he was very well prepared for something for a change.

Out of curiosity: Is there anybody here hoping he stays? Feels like everybody wants him gone..

Wouldn’t mind him staying but if he leaves it would give us an opportunity to sign a less passive and more aggresive DC. Someone like Fangio.

I think I might be the only person on the board that isn't enamored with Karlaftis.

Gannon got a healthy Slay, Maddox in his correct position and a decent No. 2 corner in Steven Nelson. He also got a healthy Hargrave. He didn’t have Nate Gerry playing heavy snaps.

The only actual advantage Schwartz had was Graham.

It was not fun watching Evans completely overmatching Maddox in the slot vs Tampa. I realize Evans is a superior player but then why pay Maddox as a top slot, when he's not. He needs to improve further and do a better  job when top receivers get moved to the slot to try to exploit him. He's getting paid like one now so it's hard to justify, he needs to play like he's getting paid.
Brady also targeted Nelson on the outside with continued success. We need an improvement there since Maddox is locked in at slot.

I think Maddox is one of the better slots but ultimately that's a mismatch. You don't tend to let a lot of big slots in the NFL so most weeks he isn't as badly mismatched.

That's good coaching.  Usually Evans is outside with Godwin and Crazy Man moving around between the slot and other outside WR.  With both out TB moved Evans to take advantage of the slot DB mismatch.

While I agree that it sucked, Maddox played really well in the slot this season. Sometimes, you're going to lose that battle.

When Gannon is gone and his replacement has the same old problems, will Howie finally get the blame?   He treats LBs like the defensive equivalent of RBs with a "anyone can do it" mentality and he seems to have no answer for the aging Graham, Cox, and McLoed or the human penalty machine, Barnett.  The issue is his poor drafting and personnel management, fellows.

Perhaps, but he makes me nervous.  I wouldn't bish if we draft him but I'm not sold.

Sure - Ojabo needs to learn to use his hands as a rusher and lock out when holding the edge. He also had very little experience with his hands in the dirt, so I see him as a sub package player his rookie year (SAM) and more of a year 2 starter.

A lot of the good DCs are 3-4 guys who need CBs to run their scheme (Flores, Martindale, Graham). Even Zimmer is a big CB guy.  The only guy that fits our personnel at all is Fangio because he runs a 3-4 - 2 High Shell. We were a 2 high team most of the year + we ran some 3-4 looks. With Fangio, we could do a lot of things we do now. Fangio uses a lot of 3-4 under looks too, which is essentially a 4-3 with one of the 3 LBs at the LOS. I don't see any schematic issues. If we hired Flores/Martindale, we'd have to draft 2 DBs in RD1 just to run the scheme.

If we want Fangio, we have the money to outbid other teams. He's also specific in what he wants, and with so many of our scouts having scouted for 3-4 teams (Ravens), it wouldn't be a big transition for them.

Two centers in this draft so nows the time

We could draft a developmental center and let Stout do his thing while Kelce sticks for another year or 2. There’s never really a good time to have player at an all-pro level hang it up.  Also, from a leadership aspect, the team is going to get very young very quickly, Kelce is obviously a vet who can still walk the walk.

"Wink” Martindale got fired?

C’mon, Gannon! Interview well!!!

Why hire Wink over better DCs like Fangio and Flores? Ravens might have fired him to hire a better option out there.

I personally would rather have Vic over them all. I like Flores a lot but chances are he will get another HC gig in the next few years leaving a hole again.

Get Mike Zimmer on the horn as soon as Ganon gets a HC gig.

Rather have a more aggressive DC in Fangio or Flores. They are more creative and mix a lot more confusing QBs. Zimmer is fine but better options are out there.

I wouldn’t even bother considering a Flores or Zimmer. Flores is getting another HC job this year or next, I doubt he takes a random DC job. Zimmer has been a HC for awhile. He probably takes the year and gets paid to do nothing besides be around his smoking hot GF.

I'm good with either.  I think with better talent, he'd be more comfortable being aggressive more often.

Meh.  Top slot CBs can't cover top WRs, which is why OCs put top WRs in the slot from time to time.  Further, Maddux is undersized, and Evans is huge.  Mismatch.

😱

How dare you sir, the Eagles DC job is better than most HC jobs, don't you know that?!   This is the home of the gold standard, the dream team, the QB factory and the new normal.  What do other teams have to offer?   Nothing.   Pfft.

It's tough. Pederson took a year off...and may still not get a HC job (guess the NFL thinks really highly of either Reich or Roseman).

If Quinn gets a job, I guess Zimmer goes to Dallas. I agree with you though, Zimmer needs a year to reset.

I work with a dolphins fan.  He said after the Flores firing which initially shocked him,  there were stories coming out about him.  Seemed like not a good culture in Miami. While outsiders in the national media pointed to his amazing 2nd half of the season,  beat reporters were more skeptical that he was really responsible for the turn around.  (I forget the reasons why).

If it's true,  I'm not so sure anyone hires Flores too quickly.  He sounds opposite of how Gannon is impressing everyone.

I don’t think Zimmer is a culture fit, if Sirianni actually believes what he says about building connections.
