Thats why I didnt like Jim and now Jonathon, they are just way to simple and easy to figure out and build a scheme against. I want a DC that will confuse the OC and the QB.

I think I might be the only person on the board that isn't enamored with Karlaftis.

Nope, not sold on him or the other favorite on the board, Obajo

Moultry  and Tre Williams , 2 others I’m a fan of

I like Hall, but even with my UH bias, I doubt it.  AAC OL rarely start in the NFL.  He wasn’t challenged like some of those others were.  His technique is a bit raw.

Who are you sold on?

We will see , I heard the same stuff about Payton Turner last year

Yes, just like it includes the exhibitions against Jake Fromm, Trevor Siemien and Garrett Gilbert.

I like Mafe ,  Bonitto ,Sam Williams , Tre Williams, Moultry , Carney  as mid rd  pass rushers .

Im just watching some DEs.

Hutchinson is good. We all know that.

Thibodeaux looks slim. I thought he was a monster. Here I looked and hes only listed on TDN at 258lbs, while being 6'5''. He is slim. He probably should go be a 3-4 rush OLB. He has the lateral quickness, and speed to do it. He isnt heavy enough in the lower body to be a full time 4-3 end. He would take a few years to build enough strength to be effective there. It makes sense to me now why people watched him in big games or against good OT prospects and werent impressed. If hes a DE I think that carries over in to the NFL. Hes not going to have a lot of wins against NFL OTs from the DE position.

The GM that hires Gannon  will be unemployed in a cpl years  , he isn’t there yet as a DC let alone a HC .

meh... they said Sirianni was a rising coach who probably wasnt quite ready to be HC either. I think he outreached expectations. Maybe Gannon can too.

You have to look at the record and the wins and losses , against who .

I’m  not saying he won’t ever be ready , I’m saying not there yet

I hear you. Thats exactly what they said about Siri. He would be a HC one day but not ready yet.

Youre probably right. Most HCs dont pan out. But in this generation of pandering to emotionally sensitive kids maybe the best way to build a coaching staff is a HC who is a great people person. And fill out the rest of the assistant staff with the better Xs and Os coaches.

In all liklihood, what just happened in Miami is Tua got Flores fired because he was mean to him. Flores is an awesome football coach. But didnt coddle the kid and it cost him his job. Probably going to see more nice guy head coaches keep their positions. Tough love football guys might be made to be assistants now.

If he has any shot of succeeding , Howie has to do a much better job finding quality talent , being drafted and playing doesn’t equal a hit , sometimes it’s the best you have at that time .

Flores had a revolving door at OC. It seems like he had issues with implementing his vision on offense too. I don’t think it’s just a Tua thing.

In general over Rosemans  term , and point was in order for coaches to succeed you need to give them the talent .

I’m still shocked no team has hired their new HC yet , years past you would know a few who would be getting hired , I just don’t see any sure thing yet .

and the names are all over the map

Karalaftis has a good initial burst. But looks a little stiff. I think he can become a good DE, but Im not sure he will become a dominant guy with tons of sacks.

Ojabo has a solid spin move. He really is mostly 3-4 LB. I guess it remains to be seen who our DC is before we can determine if he is a fit. Hes in the same exact mold as Thibodeaux. Not sure Id want him at 4-3 DE.

I kind of like Jermaine Johnson. I think he can look more dynamic if he just flew up field every snap. But he plays under control. A lot times his steps off the line are short and choppy as he is trying to read while he rushes. I dont think hes the quickest DE, but at times when he does just let it fly, you see he has plenty of burst. Id say, if Barnett hat prototypical NFL size, and strength, and kept contain better, this is the player youd get. In the mid-first, Im ok with Jermaine Johnson. I dont really feel quite impressed enough that Ill be banging the table for him. But I wouldnt mind at all.

I really like Elam in RD1.

  • Junior, so age appropriate
  • SEC player
  • Physical
  • 6'2, 190ish

The fear with Elam is that because of his height, he won't be able to handle the smaller shiftier WRs. With Maddox on the roster, that doesn't phase me as they can easily swap that out. Elam matchups well with the Golladays, Lambs, Evans, etc of the world. Combine is important for him to not have a bad 3cone/short shuttle.

I think Josh Jobe is the steal of the CB class

McKinley of the S class , IMO  he has the best play making ability of the class

I wont do trades since its just impossible to really predict it and most of the trade options are unrealistic anyways. I have no clue if Pickett lasts to that pick in real life but I know Howie loves him and he was there at the pick so was a no brainer.

In a situation where we don’t take a QB I feel compelled to simulate a tradeback (why HOU wanted the UNC QB I do not know).

I like it a lot.

I kind of feel like Pickett CANT fail when he has Smith, and Bell to throw to. Theyre almost carbon copies. Dominant route runners who will always be open for the young QB.

You still do pretty well for the D.

But it notably lacks DE. Id probably have rathered see one at 83 instead of doubling up at LB with Muma (I know hes good but at that point after snagging Loyd, its far more impactful for our D to grab a pass rusher)

As it stands, youll really have to hope we hit on S and DE in free agency. But if we did, then Im excited about that team.

I just find it very hard to believe Howie and the Lurie who believe this is a offensive league dont pick some offensive players in the first two days. I get we need defense but its just not very realistic they do that.
