The Eagles would have to believe he is a franchise quarterback in order to make that move even for fourth round pick. I look at this way, i believe it’s gonna cost them $19 million this season to have Baker Mayfield on the roster. Would I rather have Baker Mayfield if the Eagles don’t believe he’s that guy but he’s just better than Jalen hurts or would I rather have that $19 million to roll over in the 2023 to add guys then who could help my team term. I’d rather go with the ladder

I can see the argument of saving the cap space to roll over to 2023. That's a good point.

I'm thinking this too.  They aren't going to win anything especially with Tom back.  Draft Willis, develop him, take your lumps and get higher picks to rebuild your team.

I think Atlanta if they do sign Mariota are essentially signaling they're all in for a 2022 QB...even though they may be in line for #1 overall next year. If I were them, I'd wait for next year.

Yeah, I'd definitely roll those dice. The question then is what do you do with Hurts? We'd be in the same situation as Cleveland where teams know we need to offload him. Who would be interested? Atlanta? Seattle?

Dust off the Doug playbook of 3 to 4 very obvious designed QB runs per game

Why bother trading for Baker Mayfield? It's pointless. He's not the top tier QB the Eagles are looking for. So why even waste a draft pick?

Eagles fans don't want to hear this, but the fans are going to just have to bite the bullet that 2022 is going to be a crap year. But long-term it's for the best. This team hasn't had true flexibility in years. I mean organizationally and cap-wise. They have the 3 first round picks obviously. The Eagles don't have the caliber of team to lure the top flight free agents, nor the cap room to outspend teams for them and overpay a bit to lure them away from contenders. The Eagles under the Reid days when they managed the cap well had the freedom to do whatever they wanted to do in every offseason. They haven't had that freedom in years now. They've been in a yearly state of restructuring contracts, hurting future cap situations, and saddling themselves with bad contracts with older players they can't cut because of cap hits and dead money.

They need to sacrifice a season by basically going into the year as-is, and just bite the bullet and realize that contending and playoffs isn't in the cards and recalibrate this thing. And bit by bit trimming the fat of this roster and getting out of this cap mess they've put themselves in. And this doesn't necessarily preclude them from adding players. But I suspect those players will only be elite level players who are 27 and younger, most of whom won't choose the Eagles anyway.

2022 is already a lost season. People should accept that now. And it's for the best honestly.

That's what 2021 was supposed to be and they won 9 games making the playoffs. This team isn't a championship contender yet, but that doesn't mean that they can't take the next step going into next season with the draft capital they have and the current talent they have. How has this team gotten worse from the end of the season until now?

I'm a broken record about it. I'd rather roll with Minshew for the season. If Hurts can't handle the backup roll then trade him to Hawks

I'd be on board with this, but I just don't see any chance of it happening. The media backlash would be INSANE.

Some reports are that the Browns would be the one giving the mid-round pick along with Baker to get rid of his contract. In THAT case, I'm interested.

Currently, they are. By the time the season begins they will be marginally better depending on the impact of rookies.

yep. Even if you dont care about getting Mayfield and dont even see him as an upgrade, taking him is an opportunity to improve your draft stash.

Id even trade a 4th for Baker and a 3rd. Basically trading up a round for the trouble of taking him.

On top of that, you then look to trade Hurts, or Minshew and add even more picks.

I just don’t understand the allure that a lot of fans and media have for Hurts. He’s a likable guy but I can separate the person from the QB and he’s just not a good QB

It’s been very weird for me to watch people defend him with examples that aren’t qualities of a QB

Don't think they've necessarily gotten worse, but I think their record in 2021 was not in alignment with how good they actually were. The Eagles won 9 games, but IMO played football at the level of a 6 or 7 win team. I think a lot of factors like the division being horrendous yet again, WFT having a ton of injuries, the Eagles being one of the healthiest teams in football for a change, the fluky win vs the Panthers and some others things boosted their win total above how good the Eagles actually were. So even though they made the playoffs, I don't really view the Eagles as a playoff team. I think 2022 was going to regress to the mean season anyway. I think they'll win 7 or 8 games.

What has happened/who have they lost to make this team worse off since the season ended?

Yes please!

Even for that I'm not. He's better than Hurts even though I don't think he's great, and it's better for the Eagles to be worse next season so they get a higher draft pick. If everyone knows the team isn't remotely close to contending, might as well just ride with what you have, keep all your picks, and let the chips fall. And if Hurts takes a huge leap, which he won't, great. If not, maybe he'll suck enough to get you a top 7 pick.

It's not 'just like that' ..... it's a given 3 QBs are going in the top 11 ..... for a long time now

I don't even understand why everyone keeps saying he's likeable

You think he is worth 35-40 mill a year? Hes on a 5th year option right now and a FA next year. Don't say he wont ask for that contract cause he will thinking its a cheap deal.

Only way Id take him is if the Browns give us draft picks to take on his contract. Would not touch him other then that, waste of a pick.

It's the "work ethic" thing I keep calling BS on -- I haven't seen anything to show he works any harder than every other NFL QB

1 minute ago, LeanMeanGM said:

because we were told he is likeable! He doesn't need to do anything to endear himself to us. We just need to be told and then we will repeat it. duh!

That's the only way I'd be in on him too...and that sweet sweet comp pick possibly in 2023.

There's more holes on D. Compared to when the season ended, we are missing starting CB, S, DE without great internal options to fill. Reddick is nice upgrade over Avery but until we just bring back the same old guys or actually get someone new for a change, I think the D is worse.
