Maybe.  Im not getting worked up about this off-season until the draft.  They were never going to make any big moves in FA.

The more guys you bring back at positions though limits who you can draft.  See my previous post.

At DE/edge rusher they have Brandon Graham, Hassan Reddick, Josh Sweat, Milton Williams and now Derek Barnett.

This draft is LOADED with edge talent and the Eagles potentially just locked in their 5 edge rushers.  Unless they plan on playing Reddick 100% at LB (mistake) and Milton Williams at DT their pass rush is 95% set.

This REEKS of Howie Roseman thinking he's smarter than the NFL.  Every single draft when there is a position just loaded and deep in the draft he ignores that position.  Maybe I'm wrong and I hope I am but this is a blood boiling move.

The only possible reason...

Signing Barnett doesn't prevent us from doing anything in the draft. We're not passing on Thibodeaux if he falls.

Anything over 5 mil a year is an absolute L for Howie.

Sure.  But having Barnett is a negative, not a 'somebody' in place.

nah. I wouldnt blink an eye seeing them draft Karalaftis, Mafe, or Cam Thomas instead. Maybe some would see it as a reach. But taking any of those guys at 15 is a million times better than signing Barnett for another 2 years.

Barnett probably would still be a FA after the draft.

Some of the hot takes around here are ridiculous.

DE:  Sweat, Graham, Barnett, Jackson, you don't think they're not going to draft one?

DT:  Cox, Hargrave, Williams, Tuipulotu, you don't think they're not gong to draft one?

Graham and Cox are likely to be gone next year, maybe Hargrave.

Trading up for Pickett? Sure. Because he's a sure fire franchise QB?

I think y'all are reading WAY too much into a 2 year contract for Derek Fing Barnett with this QB talk but I guess we'll see.

Yup.

If it's 5 million or more, that means the Eagles will be paying 20 million for two players who contributed absolutely nothing last year.

Howie cap magician!

One of the main reasons to be disappointed with this FO. Guy is regarded as some cap wizard but for anyone on the boards who understand caps, finances, etc will know a lot of these deals have been bs over the past 3-4 yrs. Essentially stop pushing cap hits to the future, u can't escape negatives, it happens. Howie has managed to brainwash fans into believing he gets max value for fair contracts and compensation. Which he may be doing but not worth it in the long run when the overall value of players we have just aren't high as we believe it to be or he believes.

That is a terrible process

*Kenny's agent hands him the phone, which slides right out of his hand*

That would be creepy if it wasn't mostly Philly sports related.

The Eagles viewed it as Howie can never admit that he's made a draft pick. Which is why JJAW is still here, why Reagor is still here. That's the only reason Barnett is back.

Will have to see the numbers but I'm not against bringing Barnett back.  Curious decision for sure and makes you wonder if they aren't really targeting a DE in the draft anymore.

He's a good player just too stupid at times but he is a guy that gives our defense a bit of edge and attitude.

2017 draft just improved as they didn't cut ties with their first round pick.  They would all be gone, otherwise.  Great move by Howie.

Great, not only are we signing WR because they are good blockers but now DE are brought back because of QB hits.  Sorry, I want finishers, not almost made it guys.

So lets say they draft a DE round 1. Split the snaps between the rookie, Sweat whose making $15M, Reddick whose making $15M, Graham whose still going to be C and get snaps, Barnett and then the field whether it's Williams or someone else.

Whatever the number is, you then add 7.2 million in dead cap to it.

There's absolutely zero logic in bringing Barnett back. Zero. No excuse for it and I can't wait for the day that Howie finally gets fired. Until then we will continue to be an average team.

Why would you extend him? Vet presence? Why would you want someone who constantly gets stupid penalties to be someone that any younger player looks up to and learns from

Does Gannon have control of the defense? If he signed off on this then I dislike him even more

Let's see what Barnett got. I suspect it's in line what you'd want to pay for essentially a 3rd DE in a 6-7 man DL rotation.

Barnett is a buy low move with a 25 year old who has shown he can play in the NFL, or did you want Kerrigan back?
