Great, not only are we signing WR because they are good blockers but now DE are brought back because of QB hits.  Sorry, I want finishers, not almost made it guys.

Is anybody going to say it or are we pass the immaturity in here

Some of the hot takes around here are ridiculous.

You should know, your hot takes are ridiculous, especially when it comes to Roseman.

Is Howie Lurie's illegitimate son? Has to be the reason that nerd is still here.

There's 200 Derek Barnetts, why are we fixated on the one that can't stop from committing personal fouls to save his life?

So lets say they draft a DE round 1. Split the snaps between the rookie, Sweat whose making $15M, Reddick whose making $15M, Graham whose still going to be C and get snaps, Barnett and then the field whether it's Williams or someone else.

Reddick is a rush LB, he's not a DE. The only time he'll be on the DL is as a stand up rusher split wide as an Elephant.

The more guys you bring back at positions though limits who you can draft.  See my previous post.

At DE/edge rusher they have Brandon Graham, Hassan Reddick, Josh Sweat, Milton Williams and now Derek Barnett.

This draft is LOADED with edge talent and the Eagles potentially just locked in their 5 edge rushers.  Unless they plan on playing Reddick 100% at LB (mistake) and Milton Williams at DT their pass rush is 95% set.

This REEKS of Howie Roseman thinking he's smarter than the NFL.  Every single draft when there is a position just loaded and deep in the draft he ignores that position.  Maybe I'm wrong and I hope I am but this is a blood boiling move.

Milton Williams is viewed as a DT who has flexibility to move outside. This is not precluding them from taking a DE in the draft. Most likely Graham, Cox and Hargrave all gone next year as well. I'm not happy about it at all, but I don't see it as the sky is falling either.

I think y'all are reading WAY too much into a 2 year contract for Derek Fing Barnett with this QB talk but I guess we'll see.

To me this may indicate they plan to still take Ojabo knowing he's gonna have a redshirt season.

yep, precisely the point I've been trying to make and why this move is so maddening.  Terrible use of resources.  Let's also not forget that Tarron Jackson showed promise as a rookie.  Giving him more snaps in year 2 wouldn't be a bad thing.

look at the reaction to the Barnett signing when I got so much hate for hating the pick in the first place.

I hope they dont plan on having him as a starter. Cant believe its more than a 1 year deal.

I feel like we just drafted him again.

Maybe I am an optimist but I don't think a 2 year deal precludes them from drafting DE. I don't think it means anything about moving up for a QB.  I just thinks it fills an obvious hole with an experienced starter for what hopefully is a cheap deal.

Not a bad problem to have if you have a number of pass rushers to rotate in there. Especially with this super passive let the offense take what they want as long as it isn't deep defense.

We can pretty much draft whatever we want. Resigning these guys changes nothing except protecting against reaching in the draft.

Over/Under on total unsportsmanlikes for his 2 year contract, 10.  How many are after the play vs how many are to a player who is 40 yards away from the ball?

Plan is a little strong, rather, it gives them the option to take a developmental DL with upside who they don't have to start year 1. Ojabo would quality.

Let's see what Barnett got. I suspect it's in line what you'd want to pay for essentially a 3rd DE in a 6-7 man DL rotation.

Barnett is a buy low move with a 25 year old who has shown he can play in the NFL, or did you want Kerrigan back?

Barnett should not be starting.

I still think they target Ojabo. And why would Barnett start if BG is healthy? It'll be BG and Sweat.

I think Zach Berman nailed it.  A player like Barnett not named Barnett would have been better received.

Oh man. Just saw the Barnett news. I can’t wait to scroll through the Blog for its reaction.

The with this move is that he takes up a roster spot.  DE/Edge is so deep in this draft that they could possibly get 3rd round talent down in the 4th maybe later.  They were lined up to potentially take a top rusher with one of their 1sts and then get really solid depth in the middle rounds of the draft.

Now they handcuff themselves by wasting a roster spot on this known commodity in Derek Barnett.

Just bad money management for value. You'd be better off letting someone else play and develop. What exactly did FO accomplish?

which is in the lower half of starting DE in the league.  BG is 34 coming off an Achilles injury and Sweat should be a rotational end, not a starter.

Nice false dilemma.  You are really good at the logical fallacy game.

1 - We don't know what he got yet.

2 - Regardless of what he got, he's a net negative player.  Boneheaded penalties at the worst times.

I'd much rather have signed a different 25 year old.  Arden Key.  One guy is on the upswing, while Barnett is trending down.  It's a stupid move, and it's a horrible defense of the move by you.

Reminder that Brandon Graham did not really take off until his second contract.
