Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa is probably not talked about enough here. Hes pretty much another Milton WIlliams. He started at DT where he stood out due to his quickness, and then moved to edge where he played mostly 3-tech. Surprising bend, and agility for his size. He is 6'2'' 262. Could be a backup for Milton Williams role.

You can watch some here. Not a highlight video. #95

Do we still not have the Barnett contract details?  I want to know how annoyed I should be.

Greg Cossell said that Pickens is a far better prospect than Drake London and if he didn't get hurt he'd be a top ten WR.

He didn’t love London, and that should go for any college WR who makes a living on contested catches, but Slovis being London’s QB should be taken into consideration as well. When it comes to weak armed QB’s from USC, as it was said in Top Gun " that line is long and distinguished”, Slovis may be at the top.

imo Adam Anderson is best pure pass rusher in the draft ,  very athletic , explosive , long   And terrific bend . His off the field behavior is his problem , rape charges .

I love his game though  , if not for his legal trouble , he is first rd pick

What is the latest on him?  Draft eligible?

Pretty much the same , courts cleared him to go back to GA for his pro day , I was kind of shocked he was charged  with rape , by all accounts he was a pretty good guy , captain on team too

Michael Clemons seems to be a pretty legit later round DE target.

He has great size. 6'5'' 263 at the combine with 34 7/8'' arms. Great length. And hes not just long and thin. Hes built. Probably has NFL strength right now. He looks pretty fast. Scouting report says he is stiff in change of direction. But I think I see some pretty good bend around the edge.

He has a marijuana and weapons charge in his recent past. So maybe not for us.

Speaking of mid round EDGE options, what's your insight into Myjai Sanders?  After the weight in at the combine I feel like he got totally written off but seems like his weight is back up after the illness.

More of a 3-4 LB or still a possibility for us later on?

Wasn't Trent Cole's situation very similar to Sanders'?

And how do they know, before they do it, that he was or wasn’t the right player?

They don't.  The issue is their evaluation process, not the decision making on how to acquire that player.  It's not a coincidence that the Browns had such a long history of failed top round QBs in so many drafts.  Their evaluation process was bad, and it spanned more than one GM.  They had a massive flaw in their process.

Zone?  Cover 3? Cover 4? Or Tampa 2?  Cover 2?  Cover 6?  Clearly not Cover 0. But what about the Saban/Belichek Cover 1.  The Ss or sometimes the LB switch on there underneath cover.  .  Any press?  Off man?   When they say the Eagles led the league in zone coverage last year, that is pretty much correct.  But there is some naïveté to that statement.  But do you really think Gannon and Wilson want to be limited primarily to Cover 3 (Schwartz ran a lot of Cover 3) or Quarters (Cover 4)?  Teams don’t want to run pure man but you can bet they want the option along with Cover 1. It’s pretty telling that Gannon let the DB decide what cushion they were comfortable with.  I think it suggests a desire for more flexibility.  I am not fixated on 40s.  I am on hips, feet but also like 3 cone and short shuttle as the suggest body control and agility in DBs.  But burst and speed matter as it opens up what the D can do.  In this day and age, playing primarily man isn’t sound but playing as much Cover 1 as possible is key and I believe Gannon knows it. " Commitment to zone” is so simplistic.

Every DC mixes in Cover 1, but without a FS with speed and good instincts, it leaves your outside CBs on an island - so you'd better be careful how you mix it in.

JJ had corners who matched up one on one, so he could use box safeties, even bring his FS up and go Cover 0,  and not worry about matchups. With the change in rule enforcement and the difficulty of finding CBs who can consistently win on an island, that's harder to pull off these days. Al Harris would be a penalty machine in today's NFL.

Asante Samuel is a good example of a "zone' CB, he was average one on one, but if he had deep safety help behind him, was murder on QBs because he was so good at breaking on the ball - but that left him vulnerable to double moves and a QB who could use his eyes to fool him. With a safety behind, you were happy to concede a few intermediate throws as a tradeoff for his interceptions and pass breakups.

Short area quickness and agility are key for "zone" CBs, as long as they can cover underneath and stay with a WR for 20 yards, it buys time for safety help. And you can get these guys in the 2nd and 3rd rounds - but the great athletes who can smother top WRs are a rare commodity.

Which is why you're seeing more Cover 2 and its variants - if you don't have the CBs who can cover big play WRs, you keep your safeties off the LOS to stifle the big play and force a QB to dink and dunk down the field and then tighten up in the red zone where you don't have to worry about WRs getting behind the defense. But now you need more speed at LB, so defenses are smaller, and if you go for an enhanced pass rush with one gap DL, you become vulnerable to a good running game.

Red Queen effect.

That was Bryan Smith.  The hype crowd said he lost weight because a tornado hit his college town.  Then he continued to suck.

I’m thinking maybe he beat up his gf again and they’re getting something for him while they can.

I mean you also have to factor in the massive haul of picks they got here too.

But yeah, Hill is not someone you can reasonably expect to replace.  They took a big gamble.

I'd take Gardner over Davis, but wouldn't be unhappy with the other picks.

I definitely like the Johnson and Wilson picks at 16 and 19 but his whole board is kinda whack. It has Elam going in the 50's when he'll be off the board in the 1st.

The right thing.  The GM has to manage the entire cap.  Can’t pay Hill $30M per season and expect to pay Travis Kelce $14.3M for basically the same production.  Pay Hill, then Kelce insists on an updated deal.

Cine is far better than Brisker too.

psu homerism at play?

I don’t agree.  No homerism.  Brisker has CB level fluidity and better instincts than Cine.  Misses some angles.  (I like Dax Hill slightly better).  Despite his speed, I question if Cine has the fluidity and instincts to play FS (high S in Cover 1) in the NFL. He played downhill a lot in Georgia’s defense.  Both had the advantage of talent at LB in front of them.  I am not completely sold on Hamilton.  Covering TEs, absolutely, but a quick change of direction WR is going to get separation on him and he doesn’t seem to have the burst to make up that separation.  Good instincts.  Great at press but DBs can’t be as physical in coverage in the NFL as they can in college.  Can range and take good angles so he looks like he can play FS but I think he is better at SS or even moving to WIL.  I would be happy with Brisker at 19 but would be thrilled to get him plus 2023 draft capital a bit later.  My guess is the order of Ss is Hamilton, Hill, Brisker, Cine.

pretty...pretty...pretty good.  Might be my favorite one yet, just missing a late round RB and a top end CB but you can't get it all.

Between the money saved in the future and the picks, the Chiefs felt they could extend their window of opportunity beyond Hill's impending decline.  We'll see if that was a smart move.

I am a huge fan of the skill set Hill brings to the field...BUT...I always felt that when a player gets aggressive, updated, generous fair market value on a new contract...they, almost by definition, have no draft value.  Granted, that statement is somewhat offset by the reality that elite WR/DE/QB/whatever are not on the open market every offseason presenting you with the opportunity to just pay them fair market value.  But draft value does come from contracts where production exceeds cap hit.  And a contract where production = cap hit, whether you are a solid backup or a pro-bowler, technically means you shouldn't have to toss in too much draft capital on top of your already appropriate cap hit.

The Dolphins are paying Hill UFA prices where production = value but also tossed in a ton of draft capital.

What is the hold up with the details of the Barnett deal?

And adding some injury insurance.  Hill goes down, you lost all that production.  JuJu goes down, you still have two other pieces and the draft picks to make up the production.
