Sure. Cool.  I’m just pointing out Howies new favorite obsession.

we have always done a lot of 1 year deals in free agency. Its not really that smart to give everyone a long term deal.

Those guys are good, but a big drop off from guys like Walker Hutchinson Thibbs IMO.  A bigger drop than the drop off from Gardner/Stingley to guys like McCreary, Emerson etc.

Im pretty sure McCreary wont go in the first 2 rounds. Maybe even not in the 3rd. I dont see how NFL teams overlook his measurements.

1 year deals are pretty common in free agency... there's nothing new about that...

If they traded for Parker and signed one of Gilmore/Mathieu/Wagner their free agency period would be solid. Not great, but solid. Certainly could’ve been way way better with Ridley, Marcus Williams, ARob

Muma would be ideal  but dont think he lasts into the third now

I'd love to have two seconds and use one on a LB. Muma being on the short list. We'd actually have some excitement at the LB position for the first time in awhile.

Now CB and S are the big holes left (other than QB). I hope Harris wasn’t our only addition there.

I don’t think Mathieu is realistic, so what else is left? DeShon Elliott? I’d take a chance on him on a one-year deal. He’s played well when healthy.

There are still a lot of halfway decent options at CB that could hold a spot while a rookie develops. Nelson wouldn’t be bad. Maybe Kevin King, if we’re looking for a younger guy with theoretical upside.

Sign me up for Elliott. He's not even 25 yet too.

i think howie isnt aiming for 30 plus players, he's aiming for young players with upside, 25-27. i think that's the plan.

I'd probably wait on corner until after the draft. There are a bunch of 30ish year old CBs who could be decent for a year if we don't get a good one in the draft.

I think it depends on the price. Allen Robinson is 28 and they pursued him. Robert Woods is 29 and they pursued him.

Howie seems to have had a love for Chris Harris. Unless that was Schwarz.

Harris was just tweeting about Kyzir White. I could see him following him here. Bit of a stretch. But I wonder if he would be willing to transition to S as a band aid here.

I think he would be able to do it. Very experienced inside and outside in the secondary.

Stop. No we haven’t. Not like the last 5 years or so.  It worked in 2017 and Howie loves it now.  Because he’s a Fing dope.

You use one year deal to patch, then draft players behind them.

Most first round picks don't make an impact until the second half of their rookie season or their second season.

Later picks usually start showing up in year 2 or 3.

So you don't write them into the top 30, you let them work their way into that status.

Patching makes sense when you're a competitive team. It doesn't make sense to bring back, extend, or guarantee money to guys 30+ who won't be around when you'll finally be competitive. The cap rolls over, so it's less for younger players or prime free agents when you have the opportunity to strike

Cox back is a mistake. More guaranteed money for Slay is a mistake. Bringing in Gilmore for nearly 10 million will be a mistake. Paying Graham whatever we're paying him is a mistake

Howie refuses to bite the bullet and it keeps biting us back now. Ertz was traded a year too late. Cox should have been traded at the trade deadline. All these restructures made these last two free agencies basically useless

This team is not managed correctly. These mistakes will cost us when we're finally good again

In Kyzir White’s case, it makes sense to bring him in, see if he’s a long-term fit, potentially extend him.

I don’t see him as a band-aid, but more of a test drive. I think this signing is similar to Nigel Bradham, an ascending player who signed a shorter deal to try to earn a bigger payday.

I like him too. But he was a tweener as a prospect. Hall is not.

Tweener is always a negative term. A players size or limitations mean he has no home. You can put him at either spot but he may fail due to certain limitations.

Versatility means he can do either. You can literally play him full time at either spot and he has the ability to do that.

Nah versatility is situational. Football is a situational sport anymore

I think the White signing is our best of the one-year dart throws at LB. There were reasons for optimism with the previous signings but some glaring red flags.

The Broncos guy (Corey something) was a special teams player with limited snaps.

Zach Brown was a guy who bounced around despite his pedigree and intermittent quality play.

LJ Fort was a late bloomer who played well in limited snaps but was a better fit for a 3-4.

Jatavis Brown flashed as a rookie but his play tailed off with injuries.

Eric Wilson was billed as a good coverage linebacker who struggled mightily against the run.

White is ascending. He slowly worked his way up as a starter while converting from safety. He played for Staley, whom Gannon’s preferred style has been compared to. He’s strong in coverage but not a liability vs the run. He can tackle. Perhaps the Chargers not keeping him is the glaring red flag, but Staley is said to not value LBs. They also have Tranquill as a thumper and Kenneth Murray still under contract.

That’s not to say White is a star by any means, but he has a real chance to be a solid if not plus player beyond 2022.
