If Harris and Epps are the bodies at safety... there are absolutely still holes to be filled.

I suspect Mathieu is out of their price range or should be because of his age.  Collins or Peppers?  Not worth the price.  Edmunds?  Hasn’t really delivered.  Retread McLeod?  Nope.   Nobody I would sign predraft.

I don't disagree.  But that position is far from 'filled'.

They should just sign DeShon Elliott to a one year deal similar to the White deal. There's nothing to lose.

I didn’t say filled. I said that there are six Ss on the roster so there isn’t a hole per se.   They invested in five of them (well Epps was a waiver claim but is on his contract). Signed Harris, resigned Chachere, drafted Wallace.  Traded a draft choice for Vincent.  Mayden is a PS player pick up.  So perception is not a hole but definitely an area that could use an upgrade.  See what is available in the draft and consider one of the free agents post draft if necessary and suggestive of an upgrade.

Sign a slow SS type that is injury prone?  No thanks.

And he would still be the best safety on the roster.

There is definitely a hole at at least 1 starting safety spot. The other, with Harris is less than ideal. The only position that doesnt have a hole is our 3rd safety.

Looks like St Peters is going down today.

What would be the cost anyways? 2 firsts?

If we had a franchise QB, it would be real tempting.

Probably aren't many HC/OCs in the league that would use him as well as Shanahan does.

Don't play the semantics game, please.  You are too good for that.  Having bodies at a position does not mean the position is filled and doesn't leave a hole.   The Eagles had Jamon Brown on the roster, but when the time came for him to play, he was as good as playing with 4 OL instead of 5.  That backup position was a hole, even though there was a name on the roster and there was a person who kept stuff in one of the lockers.

They have not invested in the safety position since they signed McLeod as a free agent from St. Louis.  They invested in Jenkins when he left NO.  But, they really haven't made any type of investment at S in quite some time.   Late round draft picks used and traded for guys with no pedigree isn't investing, that's a lottery ticket price.  They spent a dollar to try to hit it big, they didn't invest in a long term solution.

Safety is every bit the hole it was when they finished the season last year.  Nothing has happened since then to improve it, and watching the defense last year... we saw how big that hole really was, as did opposing QBs.

He has a world of talent and is coming off a great year which I suspect is feeding recency bias, but I can’t get his injury riddled past out of my head.

He'd easily be the most productive WR on this roster, because he's not purely a WR and wouldn't be dependent on our QB1 to get him the ball down the field.

But, that would be a foolish investment.

I’m not in any company with him. Typical.

Seems like we’re going in the wrong direction for aging vets.

You just want another excuse to put on makeup Buffalo Jill.

A pretty new Velus Jones highlight video. Id really like to have this guy to finally fix our issue with returns.

Karlaftis only had 4.5 sacks this season. That’s kind of troubling for a first rounder.

I haven't watched Karlaftis so I don't have an opinion, but don't put too much stock into sack numbers in college football. It's a different game than the NFL. There isn't nearly as much drop back passing. It's a lot more running and quick screens, especially in the Big 10.

I agree with this 100% but I definitely don’t feel good about it.

Linemen tend to be older b/c they redshirt them to give them time to physically mature.

Only two of the top 12 offensive linemen in this draft red shirted.

What a Final 4.  Holy Hell.  3 Blue Bloods and Villanova.  UNC has been underrated most of the year.  I still don’t see them beating Duke next week.  But man.  UNC/Duke match up in the tournament for the first time ever.  K’s last season as well.  Hell of a story.

UNC has won 2 Natty’s in New Orleans.

That honestly blows my mind.  I’ve been down here for over 20 years and would have never guessed it.

Screw the draft and all those high picks. We’re doomed.

Yes, but…the same people arguing not to judge a roster because the draft will be added are usually the ones saying you can’t possibly judge a draft pick as a rookie.  If the later holds true, then it’s not exactly wise to bank on the rookie draft class for 2022 improvement.

I need the draft to get here ASAP.  This isn't a healthy obsession.
