The Barnett contract will be interesting.  The Eagles felt it worthwhile to pay him $10m last year.  Last year, his sack total went down, but he was essentially the same player he has been his entire career.  He also stayed healthier than he has his entire career.

I'm not saying this to defend Barnett...just to think in terms of contact numbers.  Unless Howie is a personnel idiot (might be)...last offseason...after FOUR years of Barnett, he knew what he was and was not.  And he thought he was worth $10m.  After a 5th year was more of the same, that technically puts him right back at $10m.  And if it's drastically lower, then what the heck were we doing paying him $10m last year?  We really needed that 5th year at $10m to understand his limitations that everyone else knew on draft day?

Nothing after 2010 that was both not horrible and not a sequel.

I thought he was very good in Concussion.

Wonder if it will be a dome, retractable roof, etc.  Seems like most newer stadiums have been enclosed.

What is the appeal of Howell?  6' QB with an ordinary arm who still isn't a hyper-productive hyper-smooth passer.  Will probably make a very nice backup one day if he is drafted accordingly...just like Pickett.

I think his arm is above average.  His accuracy and mechanics are not great.  He's fairly mobile.  He's a lot like Baker Mayfield.

I dissagree. Hurt's is clearly holding the WR's (Smith and Watkins) back. {Perfect example) The Tampa game, where Watkins alone was open for 3 possible Td's if Hurts wasn't bailing out of clean pockets.  Smith as well.  How much longer before those two get frustrated and stop trying hard because Hurts is only rarely going to try and get them the ball?

To say Hurts is not holding back their production and development is just completely ludicrous in the face of overwhelming evidence.

Production and development are two different things, development is about playing your position correctly, learning to run routes, run block, track the ball, etc. QB doesn't impact a WR's development, that's between the player and the coaches.

QBs with lowest air yards per attempt:

Darnold, 3.2, Big Ben 3.4, Goff 3.5, Lawrence 3.7, Wilson 3.7, Mahomes 3.8, Heinicke 3.9, Rodgers, Tannehill, Tau, Mills 4.1,  Wentz, Bridgewater, D Jones 4.2, Herbert, Brady, M Jones, Mayfield 4.3

Hurts, Dak, Ryan 4.4, Allen, Carr 4.5, Grap, Fields 4.6, Murray 4.7, Burrow, Cousins, L Jackson, R Wilson 4.8, Stafford 5.0

Hurts is below average in completion percentage, but some of that is WRs (looking at you, Reagor).

Hurts has a completion percent over expected of 0.1.

His average depth of target is 8.8 yards, 4th in the NFL behind Wilson, Fields and L Jackson.

I wonder if the Eagles can/will throw out Howell's 2021 season and evaluate him based on his first 2 seasons.

He ran an absurd amount this past season (183 times in 12 games); frankly, the Eagles already have that guy playing QB.  He'd have to be questioned on that like he's being questioned at a parole hearing:

-- why would you do that?

-- what did you learn?

-- how can we trust that you'll never repeat something like that again?

Dude.. you’re wasting your time. It isn’t about deep ball accuracy, completion percentage, or any of that. It’s going through progressions. It’s about throwing with timing. When your QB hopes his first read is wide open, and if not, they run, it limits the entire offense. That’s all it’s about. I could deal with Hurts’ deep ball accuracy, weak arm, and all of that if he’d shown the slightest ability to make correct reads and get the ball out when the WRs break. All these mental gymnastics about meaningless stats is just a bunch of mumbojumbo.

Ahhh .... they didn't trade for Watson because they wanted to leave the spot open for Pickett.  Makes sense
