I’ll take 2 out of 3 home runs over 3 Mike Patterson’s in round 1. But they need some difference makers. And they haven’t earned the trust to get them especially on the defensive side of the ball.

Seems to me that this teams goal is to find Mike Pattersons.  They need to get elite athletes who can be impact players for once.  Too many times they go for guys on defense who can eat snaps and be steady.

There's an argument to be made that by hitting doubles you're making your team much better than by taking the big swings.

Jameson Williams/Ojabo are HR swings. Karlaftis is a player I'm very confident will be a good player. He's only 20, productive and got all the attention in a major conference. Karlaftis will never be Von Miller, but he has Justin Smith-like upside with a high floor. His likely outcome is a good, but not great starter. That has value.

Ojabo could be Danielle Hunter or Taco Charlton. That's a wide range.

But I don't think the Eagles are going to win championships building around Justin Smiths. They already have a lot of guys like that. They need a Von Miller type. And sure the risk of a bust may be greater, but I think it's worth it. This team has lacked elite talent on D for years. No playmaking CB since Samuel. No force at LB since Trotter, really. No edge rusher who has 15+ sack potential in ages.

The "hair style" has never been a secret. Quite the contrary. She has put it out there.

It is true that hitting someone for making a tasteless joke is not good but Rock humiliated her publicly and Smith replied in kind. Letting Rock get away with that was, at the very least, inappropriate. Frankly, if someone insults my wife, I would not sit idly by.

And it was a slap not a punch and Rock saw it coming.  If physical altercation was coming, a slap is the most appropriate physical response.  But my wife would argue that the slap and shouting would neither be an appropriate response, at least to me.  Growing up in Texas, she tends to think everybody is armed.

Reverse smokescreen

So Watkins, labeled the  #2 WR by his own coach, went for 647 yards and 1 TD this year.  His entire identity and the majority of his usage is as a downfield threat...and he barely connected on the receiving end of any deep balls all year.

So I'd say that either Watkins isn't any good, or Hurts held him back.

I would say that Watkins is still learning the route tree.  Watkins improved with the route running as the season went on.  Not saying Hurts wasn’t a factor in Watkins results, but that isn’t the same thing as holding Watkins back on his development.

I generally agree.   Howie's philosophy has been to take singles, bunts and home run hacks though.  He's not really been a guy trying to consistently hit doubles.  Reagor?  Was he a 'double' pick?  Nope.  That was clearly a home run swing that landed in the catcher's mitt.  Sydney Jones?  Home run swing, fouled back, and he watched the 3rd strike go by on the next pitch.  Da'Vonta Smith?  That was another home run type swing.  That one might end up being a ground rule double in the end.  Dickerson?  Home run swing.  We'll see how far that ball carries.  Davion Taylor?  Home run swing.  Pumphrey?  Desperation suicide squeeze that he fouled out on.

Howie has never been one to really focus on the 'doubles' in the draft.

Reagor & Jones were HR swings IMO. Jones pre-achilles was a double, but once he had the achilles for a CB it became a high-risk situation. Jefferson was always the "safer" prospect than Reagor because of his ability to be a good slot WR.

I agree with your point that Howie is willing to take risks. He's just not willing to take risks at low-priority positions.

Too many young good players...that's funny.

The first part of his statement, I have been saying . This is not the year you go all in, this is NOT the QB you go all in for !

Hmm

We will be trading all of our picks for Ricky Williams.

My criteria for good 1st round picks...

-- Legit 1st round grade

-- Exhibited dominance (at least in stretches) in the SEC (obviously preferred) or Big Ten. I'd grade players from other conferences more harshly.

-- Athletic traits and measurables consistent with elite caliber players at the position. If something is missing, he better be a force.

-- Will finish season age 23 or younger

-- Not a RB or specialist. Guards and off-ball backers better be studs.

I think Jordan Davis is an absolute no brainer at 15 if he's there.

I think it's unrealistic to come away with 3 home runs in the first round. History tells us it just doesn't happen (teams with 3 firsts have for the most part not picked well at all). As the great Meatloaf once said, 2 outta 3 ain't bad. We should be trading away at least 1 of the firsts though

Honestly, I'd be happy with 2 doubles and a single

Get two safe players who will make impacts on your rosyter for the next 5-7 years, and trade back with one pick for a later and Future picks.

Karlaftis could also be JJ Watt. I like Ojabo but he may not be as explosive after his injury.  He's also at a higher risk for a repeat injury.

Dude.. you’re wasting your time. It isn’t about deep ball accuracy, completion percentage, or any of that. It’s going through progressions. It’s about throwing with timing. When your QB hopes his first read is wide open, and if not, they run, it limits the entire offense. That’s all it’s about. I could deal with Hurts’ deep ball accuracy, weak arm, and all of that if he’d shown the slightest ability to make correct reads and get the ball out when the WRs break. All these mental gymnastics about meaningless stats is just a bunch of mumbojumbo.

The conversation was about whether he holds back the development of young WRs.

That's a good list. If you're in a small-conference, you have to be elite (ex: Khalil Mack, Ed Oliver). This doesn't apply to QBs (Lance, Wentz, Allen, Wilson, etc.)

Guys who this fits: Jordan Davis, Derek Stingley, Kyle Hamilton, Travon Walker, Aiden Hutchinson, Ahmad Gardner, Evan Neal, Ikem  Ekwonu, Chris Olave

There’s nothing about Reagor in college that would indicate he was a "home run” swing.  He was a reach by a bad GM who panicked.  Plain and simple.

The baseball analogy is that Howie tried to hit a HR with an 0-2 slider 5 inches off the plate and in the dirt.

Actually, Jim Steinman said that.  Great pairing of that voice with that songwriter.

My wife's comment was that it was an old old school challenge-to-a-duel kind of slap.

I would also add that black women take a lot more crap about their looks than white women do.

Health takes Williams off that list for me.

Wilson was actually not dominant at the college level.

True, but he's actually quoting the former girlfriend in the song.

Brilliance.
