I know he's not the same player as Anthony Harris but I would have taken this over him. It's less than Harris deal.

$5M just by earning a starting spot in Philly? Pass.

Sucks when you get owned by Jon Marks

I'd be thrilled to trade down to 29/30 and pick up a 2023 1st.

I may be a bigger fan of Zech than most, but I think he's going to be given every opportunity to earn the CB2 job.

Very good athlete in the same scheme after a whole-year is intruiguing. Has legitimate #2CB potential.

To me the concerns about the salary cap seem oveblown when compared to other issues.  The salary cap issue is evidence of Howie's biggest fault in that he ties his ego to the players.  He is unwilling to cut ties with aging vets and bad picks.  That plays out in the team keeping and extending players they should get rid of sooner.  So the failure to get other players is the result of making a bad extension or pick not a salary cap that keeps them out of the market.

Agreed.  It all works together.

Missed the "playtime" part. Thought it was regular incentives. Makes sense for them I guess since he's hurt a lot.

Where's the evidence that the Eagles didn't sign someone because of cap space?

Also by 2024 season the Eagles will have added a significant portion of 22 draft picks, who will be under contract.

But will they contribute anything meaningful ??  Looking at the last couple drafts, highly doubtful.

Grain of salt and all that, but the reports after tue draft were that he was the unanimous pick and were thrilled to get him (could be spin following the Donohoe debacle the night before). Now Lurie talked him up indirectly the other day. There seems to be a drum beat building.

It won’t stop the team from drafting a CB high because long-term we need a high-end replacement for Slay.

Steal.

    Maybe... just maybe there's hope for Howie yet.

At least we can have some hope based on our most recent draft…

Brandon Graham extension coming up

Great point.  Maybe that's behind Howie's statement this week that they want to make sure there is room on the roster for their draft picks to contribute early.

Arguably what they got from Smith, Dickerson, and Williams in one season was equivalent to the 2018 class' first two or three seasons combined.

Meh.  I'd have believed that more completely if they hadn't added Anthony Harris, Boston Scott and Fletcher Cox (at that number) back.   At $14M, Cox will block a DT drafted, unless he's traded in the meantime.  BUT... it's hard to believe a team would want to trade for him now when they could have traded for him earlier in the offseason.  It will have to be an injury replacement or a late in-season trade before the deadline for a team looking to make a deep playoff run.   Hopefully.

Harris and Scott though, sure, the money isn't much, but their contribution is also not much.  I think they could have (and should have) waited until after the draft to sign those guys.  And if they would have had to sign someone else instead, so be it.

Meanwhile, that 2017 draft class did offer some nice payoff in 2017.  Barnett gave some decent rotation DE snaps.  Douglas played fairly well filling in after CB injuries started to build up.  And the biggest contributions from a rookie that year might have come from Corey Clement who wasn't even a draft pick.   Without him, I don't think the magic happens.  His contributions on ST and in the screen game were huge for that team.

And who are they going to be paying big money to?

Smith and this year's 1st rd picks don't come due until 2025 (his fifth year) or later.

If some later picks have to be resigned b/c they outplayed their draft spot, well, that's not exactly a problem.😎

Unless of course you want to sign 3 free agents to big money contracts.

You keep telling us Hurts is going to be good, and his entry level contract expires after 2023 -- so, he will be taking up $35-40M of the cap.

See why I keep saying make the switch at QB right now?

They slapped 4 voidable years on a $1.4M contract bonus lol

Yeah, seems unnecessary to do that.  But, at least he's a young player who might be ascending.

Plus great ball skills. Rather invisible when he subbed in this past year, which is a good thing for a rookie CB.   Been saying he is a CB2 since he was drafted but because he is just shy of 5’11”, he got that nickel tag. (Despite being taller than Sheldon Brown).  Lazy evaluation by these draft experts on twitter and websites.

Interestingly, Sirianni mentioned the young corners too.  He included Vincent as a CB when doing so, which surprised me a bit.

Best thing for us is Graham retirement after 2022.

Frankly, I expect that Graham may linger on PUP for a significant part of the season.

By then... it will be more like $50M at the current inflation rates of that position.

Wasn't there an argument about this in here?

Why? It’s typically a 9 month recovery, and his injury occurred in September. There’s no real reason to expect that.

Sirianni also mentioned Football IQ AND DEREK BARNETT in the same sentence.  So, I'll take that with a massive grain of salt and believe that that might have just been Siranni coach speak for "we're fine there", ala Andy Reid.

Nazeeh Johnson , Safety , hell of a pro day .
