Or lots of entitled athletes out there that get away with criminal behavior.

If his case is still pending during draft it's going to drop him substantially, if resolved before I assume he'll drop a round or two from previous projections.

Imagine ignoring rape charges against a guy just because you think he's better than pre-draft rankings. What a world.

No doubt he is dropping , from a first rd talent to mid to late , might even go undrafted , I would use a 4 th on him

He’ll be lucky to have someone take a flyer on him in R6/7

I honestly don't care how my team wins.  But... winning despite the QB normally ends in the playoffs.  It's a losing proposition.   The 2000 Ravens got away with it with Trent Dilfer, because they had an all-time great defense and a monster running game that could hide him.  But, that team was a massive anomaly, going 9 straight games (IIRC) without an offensive TD, and still managed to be the best team in the league at the end of the year.   That team was the closest thing I can remember ever to the 1991 Eagles, who suffered from the same issue - no QB to pair with an all-time defense.  Difference is, they at least had an OL and running game to rely on.  The Eagles' OL in 1991 was makeshift at best.

Yes exactly. I guess my point was you know how the story ends when the QB is more of a hinderance than a help. In the playoffs, QB play is magnified as the pressure is on them, and that's why their salaries are so much higher than anybody else. Look at Jimmy G's playoffs numbers this year:

DAL - 16/25, 172 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT

GB - 11/19, 131 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT

LAR - 16/30, 232 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT

They certainly didn't win because of QB play. But they damn sure lost because of it. Is that what we are hoping for from Hurts? Those kind of playoff numbers?

Yes, and let's leave the rapists to the Cowboys

The NFL draft isn't the court system.

And neither is public opinion. So why do we want to judge the player guilty before we know he is?

That said athletes need to learn and be smarter than that.

This is also true

San Fran wins with a really great defense and a very unique weapon in Deebo. Paired as well with a very strong running game. But they, much like us last year, won games in spite of their QB play. And eventually, it fell to Jimmy G to win the game for them, and he failed, twice honestly. Against Dallas he was terrible in the 4th q, and only Dallas's ineptitude kept them from winning. And against the Rams, he was again terrible when the pressure was on him to actually carry the team.

I don't want my team to win in spite of my QB. Which is where we're at with Hurts.

If your goal is to just be mediocre and maybe make the playoffs, Hurts can be your guy.

But if you really wish to compete for championships, then no- Hurts will never be that guy.  It's no coincidence that teams with great QB's are in the playoffs more times than not and are actually competing in the playoffs, not getting washed out in the first round.  Hurts can basically just not hurt you enough against inferior talent to build enough wins to get you to the plafoffs, buts that is where that story will always end. (unless we somehow build a defense for the decades..... Like the Ravens or the 85 bears.)

As long as you leave the rapists off your draft board...especially in the 4th round.

I want my team to win, period. I really don't care if the QB dinks and dunks behind a great running game, chews up time, and scores enough to win behind a good defense.

The one area on the field where Hurts' running ability is a huge edge is the red zone, his rushing TDs are a big asset, because a lot of QBs can pad their stats between the 20s but struggle with those tight windows. So if we can use the run to matriculate down the field, and Hurts can use his legs and arms to score in the red zone, so what if he has mediocre passing stats?

Hurts has to get better, but this 'he's not a great passer and never will be' is nonsense. The question is whether he can QB the OFFENSE to yards and points. That's the real measure of a QB, running the offense, not highlight film passes or gaudy statistics. Eagles were 12th in points and 14th in yards last year, if Hurts can get them into the top ten in both categories, then he's more than good enough.

The two years Garappolo started for SF, 2019: 2nd in points, 4th in yards, 2021:  13th in points, 7th in yards, 2020 when he was injured, 21st and 15th.

He may not be pretty, but he makes that offense work. And win.  2021:  13-3;  2020:  6-10; 2021:  10-7.

Took them to the SB in 2019, and was a dropped interception from repeating in 2021.

How many games.?

Probably will come down to if he's winning or not.

Let's say he goes 2-4 but looks good as a passer then what, or what if they go 4-2 and he looks crap as a passer?

Will be interesting to see how it plays out and how much leash he has.

I don’t think it has anything to do with w/l. For me, purely about how he looks as a passer

He’s a turncoat Bucs fan.  Who cares who he has on his "board”.

"Fan”. If you can just change teams in the middle of adulthood and claim to be a fan of a new team, then we don’t operate on the same level of fandom. One can’t possibly have any passion for a team they started liking and following as an adult. He’s a football fan, sure. Likes watching college players. But he doesn’t actually care about any team in any meaningful way.

That's fair enough, I think Siri leash for hurts may be a lot shorter than Howie's leash for hurts.

I could see Howie doing all he can to justify hurts even if he looks like crap unless the eagles are losing.

You miss the point entirely. Regular season stats and wins are one thing. In the playoffs, where it actually matters, QBs are forced to be QBs. And that entails being able to pass the ball successfully. It's why the Bucs destroyed us this year, because Hurts can't do it. It's why Lamar Jackson has failed to do anything of note in the playoffs. And Jimmy G's per game stats in the playoffs:

13/22, 59%, 160 yards, with a total of 4 TDs to 6 INTs in 6 games.

That's a far cry from his average regular season numbers, which is my point entirely. You know how the Jimmy G story will end up in San Fran. He'll take them into the playoffs, maybe win a game or two, but eventually, when he has to win the game with his arm, he just can't do it.

If you want to set those numbers as the bar, then good for you. I would prefer to aim a lot higher.
