So wait.  I have another reason to root against the Saints?  Oh goodie!

You're stoned.  They are not taking a QB.  Unless he's a project 5th rounder.  This all but seals the deal that Hurts is the place holder for 2022.

It was a joke. Go back to sleep.

Interesting.

6'4" 224.  He's a RS FR so will be a RS SO in 2022.  Only started/played 10 games, but averaged 32.4 pass attempts/game.  Had a 62.3 comp%, 2931 yds, 9.0 YPA, 25 TDs and 6 INTs.  Also, only had 57 rushing yards on 53 attempts so he's a pocket passer.

Another one to keep an eye on this coming season.

VanDyke could definitely rise. I also like Jurkovec from BC and McKee from Stanford.

If you're convinced that the 2023 draft will offer significantly more value in the 1st round than in 2022 then you make this trade all day, regardless of what you think of Hurts.

I think it’s more than that.

One of the biggest fallacies in drafting is the concept that a future draft pick is inferior to the value of a draft pick today. The reason this crops up is because no Front office executive’s job is guaranteed. They may not be around to take the future selection, where the picks they traded for today could save them their job. In their subjective viewpoint, the value becomes incredibly skewed.

So what is the report that came out which instigated this? Howie Roseman just signed a 3-year extension. His owner has given him absolvement from any concern over whether Howie will be using that 2023 first round pick. Therefore, Howie can use this information to prey on teams who are not in a similar situation. If the Saints are terrible without Payton for a few years, Loomis is toast. He needs to prove right now that he wasn’t riding Sean’s coattails.

Time devalues those picks

so equivalent of a second and fourth to me

i admit i am a tad surprised by the overwhelmingly positive reactions. I am not a believer in Hurts so i want qb ammo next yr. I get that.

i also get spreading out the first round contracts. I just saw plenty of good players that could help rebuild this team

I think picks 101 and 18 are a fair value for 16.  Getting a future first and second  for picks 19 and 194 while also getting pick 237 back is also a good value.

This is the 2022 riser

Just saw the trade about 20 minutes ago. At first it seemed like a weird trade, but it feels like great value. Like someone mentioned, teams seem to devalue future picks way too much. There’s a lot of risk for teams who don’t have a franchise QB trading premium picks. The Saints likely won’t bottom out, but could they push for a top-10ish pick? Maybe. The Dolphins were on the cusp before stealing games late.

This is the kind of move that can be made year over year until we’re in position to acquire our next franchise QB with a treasure trove of assets.

Good move, Howie.

How do the points work out with this trade. On the surface it looks terrible but if the saints are as bad as I expect it’s a good gamble.

Also, what the hell were the Saints thinking doing this deal now for a mid-first?

Saints are a crap team and I'll bet whatever anyone wants that they dont go 4-0 against the Panthers/Falcons

What kind of odds will you give?

It's a win now trade because they think Jameis is great.  It could also be for a QB but I don't think that's the case.

Levis

Jurkovec

Hartman

my top 3 QBs next year , big big fan of Levis

They must have another deal in the works with the framework mostly done to move up to get the QB they want in the draft. Or less likely they really wanted two firsts in this draft to build up roster..

People say next years QB draft isn’t better than this year and I really disagree. This year STINKS.

I mean, I like Pickett, but do you really think he gets the Saints that deep into the playoffs ????

Winston
Andy Dalton
Marcus Maye (Forgot about that one)
PJ Williams
Tre'Quan Smith
Forrest Lamp
Daniel Sorensen
Kentavius Street
Jaleel Johnson

Nothing earth shattering here

I’m guessing they add Duane brown or Eric fisher at some point. There was noise from some of their beta writers about it. Also pj Williams when healthy was better than jenkins last year (at this stage of his career).

And all but guarantees he isn't in 2023 unless he takes a gigantic leap forward this year.

Which was going to be the case anyway.

I think next years is better , and more pro style QBs too

Another great move by Howie. He's a solid enough draft away from back to back good off-seasons.

We fleeced the Saints. Hopefully they package both picks in a trade up for a QB, as that QB would sit and not help the team win in 2022.

Not disagreeing on the whole, but Levis and Hartman are crap, though.

So, 18 for 19 is basically a wash to consider.

So, the deal is 16 and a late 5th for a first next year (Valued at second for this year), second in the year after (which would be valued at a 4th this year).. and a 3rd round pick in this draft... so, essentially trading a mid-first round pick for a 2nd, 3rd and 4th.     Eagles got a little less value back, but they get what they really want... a first for 2023.  I can't hate this.   I don't love it, but it's not a bad deal.  Definitely not a homerun though.

It looks terrible on the surface?

I like the trade, but next year's QB class, as of now, doesn't look all that special either TBH.

It’s kinda early lol but Stroud and Young are a tier  above any of the QBs coming out this year easily

Howie basically just turned #16 into a third in 2022, a first in 2023, and a second in 2024.

Yes.  Not a great trade in terms of value... but it does fit the idea of a 'rebuild'.   That's encouraging to me.
