I used to hear this draft is stacked and now I keep seeing people saying it’s weak. Who is the real slim shady?

It's a deep draft. There are lots of fun 2nd/3rd round prospects. It's just not top-heavy. So top 10,15 picks are devalued. The #27 overall pick this year is likely better than the #27 overall pick compared to previous years.

This is why I'd like to trade down again from 18.

I agree.  The top end talent drops off around 15 or so.  BUT.. the next tier could last until the start of Round 4, especially if teams see a run at a position and panic, reaching for guys (like the Eagles did with Pumphrey).

I like the trade but now I know I have to watch Hurts "play qb" one more year

Yeah that's where I am.  It's probably the smart move given the QB prospects this season vs next but it sucks to have to watch a QB who can't throw for another season.  I'd rather Minshew play and I'm of no delusion that he's any good either. I just think he's ever so slightly better. Quite frankly I'm not sure why Hurts is even considered a better prospect.

^ This is why.  It is very short-sighted and its only about regular season wins.  Good news is Hurts is 2-0 against the Saints.  If he goes 3-0 with the game this year, that helps the new pick acquired.

We can argue all day about who won the trade and who got better value but at the end of the day what matters is what both teams do with the picks.  If the Saints come away with their franchise QB and the Eagles bring in more Marcus Smith, Sidney Jones and JJAW kind of players then the Saints win the trade by a landslide.  If the Eagles are able to come away from the draft with a few cornerstone pieces and find their QB next year then the Eagles win it.

This is the Eagles and Howie Roseman.  We all know he's capable of pulling off draft trades.  He needs to prove he's capable of nailing those picks.  2021 looks promising....now we need to see what happens moving forward.

Really shouldn't look at the deal that way.  As you state yourself, flipping draft assets is a different process from selecting players.

This was a successful transaction for the Eagles as it moved draft assets into next year.  If the Saints get their guy this year, then it is successful for them as well.  Both can be winners.

Trades:

Trade 15 and Jalen Hurts
for
9, R1 2023, R4 2023

Trade 18, 162, Jalen Reagor
for
26, 90, Kevin Byard

Trade 166, 2023 R6
for
189, 230, 2023 R5

Trade 90, 162

for

86

So for 2023 we have:

R1- 3 picks

R2- 1 pick

R3- 1 pick

R4- 2 picks

R5- 2 picks

R6- 0 picks

R7- 1 pick

And our 53 for 2022 looks like:

QB[2]: Minshew, Corral

RB[4]: Sanders, White, Gainwell, Scott

WR[6]: Smith, Pierce, Watkins, Paschal, Jones Jr. (also KR/PR), Ward

TE[3]: Goedert, Otton, Stoll

OL[10]: Mailata, Dickerson, Kelce, Seumalo, Johnson, Dillard, Herbig, Driscoll, Anderson, Opeta

DE[4]: Graham, Sweat, Johnson, Barnett

DT[5]: Hargrave, Cox, Mathis, Williams, Wilson

LB[5]: Edwards, White, Reddick, Taylor, Johnson

CB[6]: Slay, Gardner, Maddox, McPhearson, Gowan, Scott

S[5]: Byard, Cross, Epps, Chachere, Vincent

ST[3]: Lovato, Elliott, Araiza

How many Howie's?

Great trade and with Hurts still under center, makes it even better!

Hard to look at this trade and not feel it's all about the QB position going forward.  Could the Eagles have made 3 picks at 15, 16, and 19 and improved the roster with each pick?  Of course.  The Eagles could have easily picked players to improve at DT, DE, LB, S, CB, WR, and IOL.  This trade is about adding ammunition and flexibility to their 2023 plans.

I don't think the timing of the trade is any accident, either.  The Eagles just sent Brian Johnson to all of these QB Pro Days in the past 1-2 weeks, and I believe their consensus evaluation between Nick, Howie, Shane Steichen and Brian Johnson is there isn't a QB worth trading picks 16 and 19 to get up into the top 5 for.  To get their QB of choice that's what it would have taken.  CAR is almost surely to draft QB at #6; possibly a couple of teams out there looking to trade in front of them.

Hurts rarely lines up under center, in large part because his running threat is greatly negated from there.

I'd go so far as to say that they concluded that none of the QBs are worthy of any first round selection.

I wonder if the front office forces more of a passing offense? If it fails, then the draft pick is higher.

Has nothing to do with kansas.  Could have been two EST teams and it would still have been 9:20.  Has been late for years.  People have been complaining about it...for years.  Guess what, Super Bowl is on a sunday evening as well.  And then NCAAF National Championship game is on monday night too.  Oh and preseason football is boring and hard to watch.

It's the same old tired things.

Staying awake to what, 10:30 last night? My god, how will I ever function at work the next day with that lack of sleep! People just love to complain

Eagles are about to become a very young team.

Players 30 or over who'll be gone after this season, Kelce (35), Cox (32), Graham (34), Harris (30).

Players who'll be 30 or over in 2023:  Lane (33), Slay (32) [Seumalo (30), Hargrave (30)]

Howie needs to get in there to prevent Saints from improving

Think they have top 5 cap space currently so would not be surprised at all if this gets done unfortunately

That would be worse to watch but better for the team imo
