According to Peter King, GMs have told him that there isn't a lot of interest by teams in trading up. This draft is deep into round 3/4 and teams want to stockpile/keep picks in that range.

Could make for trading up easier if its a trading up market.

Yup.

This makes it easier to trade our Saints 3rd in a trade-up scenario. It gets us to 12 (maybe) and 13 (definitely). That's close to Jordan Davis territory.

I'm on board for a small trade up to get our guy, and trade down with 1st rounder #2 with a team willing to give us real 2023 capital.

This is the argument for power rushers. What's the point of an undersized pass-rusher on neutral downs when there's nothing they can do to affect the QB?

I've been saying it for a while, just not sold on Karlaftis.

Id be happy to get him. Complete player.

Exactly what they said about Barnett.

Let’s not make the same mistake twice.

They did not:

  • Initial burst up-field is average
  • Times snap count to help with his get-off
  • Feet are average
  • Substantially more twitch in hands than in feet

Didn't Jordan Matthews have the most receptions all time in the SEC??

Agreed, we are one of the few teams that are in a position where it is not cost prohibitive to trade up.

If Thibodeaux or Johnson fall to 10ish, I'm hoping #83+change is enough to get us there.

Seems like a weird comparison.

Barnett 6030 (3.71) vs 6036 (6.03)???

Barnett 259 (3.79) vs 266 (6.16)???

And plenty of stuff Karlaftis just didn’t do.

For me the two are as similar as it gets.

Introducing your USFL mascots.  What on Earth is the Philadelphia one?  Every other teams mascot represents their name in some capacity except this Grimmus looking thing.

Gritty ripoff

They're not, as evidently backed by various data points, scouting reports etc.

There is a DE in this draft that is as similar to Derek Barnett as it gets, and his name is Kingsley Enagbare.

  • Lacks functional explosiveness to the top of the rush.
  • Slow and linear in twist game.
  • Tight hips with slow twitch.

It was. The spelling varies. My mother was born in County Clare, on the west coast of Ireland. That makes me an Irish citizen. It doesn't make me an expert on the drink, but I've had my share.

With a few exceptions, every home in Ireland I have visited had a jar of poutine, poitin, potcheen. It's been a few years now but I imagine the Irish are still thirsty.

According to that link I posted, even though it's been around for centuries, it's gaining popularity and being used in cocktail recipes.  What I didn't know was that the original recipe makes it a Whiskey as it was a malt barley based liquor.  I'd always thought of it more like Moonshine and that it was made primarily from potatoes.

7.51 three cone suggests no bend. So does a 4.54 Shuttle. Barnett’s 31 vertical and 9.09 Broad suggests a lack of explosiveness and………..

Does he fit in a 4i front though? I would argue yes in the BG spot opposite Reddick.

i am trying to think fit and not only a traditional 4-3 DE

I watched him a bit last night. I wouldn’t love him at 15/18, but I think with his power he does fit our scheme quite well. He can corner a bit and while not the most athletic he was able to almost jump cut between blockers to slip into the backfield.

I don’t think he profiles as a team’s top edge rusher.

Looks tiny on the field, heckuva athlete though.

His get off isn't Mafe level or anything, but for his size he has one hell of a first step.

People don't like him because he's a white DE.  Purely a visual bias.

That and people compare him to Ryan Kerrigan.  People think of the Eagles 33 year old Ryan Kerrigan and not the Ryan Kerrigan who averaged over 10 sacks/season his first 8 years

I don't think Karlaftis being white is an issue at all, for anyone.

The top 3 DEs in the NFL are white: TJ Watt and the Bosas.
