According to Caplan we have some interest in signing Andre Roberts as a return guy.

Maybe. Caplan is way less plugged-in now.

Haven't seen much of him on here.  Noticed he was high on the RAS list and did very well in SEC play

Chenal, Muma, Walker, Tindall, Smith, Asomoah. For different reasons/roles.

I think the idea to lock players up early is outdated. If they suck you‘re stuck on a bad deal and if they ‚go off‘ they demand more money or sit out.

Team rarely wins anymore unless you want the longer contract to trade the player somewhere else later.

They just did that with Mailata and Goedert.

Small trade up with HOU pre-draft hoping to grab a falling Hamilton, Johnson or Stingley (15, 101, 2023 3rd for 13, 2023 5th)

Then a big trade down with JAX (18 for 33, 65, 106)

Feel like I filled a lot of holes at CB2, rotating (and future starter) at DT and DE, strengthened the WR corps with a big X and a great slot WR, a ballhawk S, talented TE2, big back with plenty of tread on the tires to be the pounder this year and the starter in 2023, replaced Siposs, IOL depth, and a developmental talented LB.

Ladies and gentlemen -- a preview of the same tweet with Jalen Hurts' name one year from now.  Anyone wanna lay money that Hurts will be singing the same song next April and demanding $30M+?  How would you like a starting QB who doesn't participate in any off-season work?

If Hurts plays at a Pro Bowl-level, he should. If he doesn't, and still wants 30M, he can sit on the bench as we find his replacement.

You're fine with the distraction Kyler Murray is already creating for the Cards?

Who votes for the Pro Bowl?  The fan voting carries a 1/3 weighting.  Does the organization allow fans/national media to dictate Hurts' worth and contract value?

How do you quantify "Pro Bowl"?  Actual selection, alternate, named to the team after the first 4 guys decide not to participate?

Right now the NFC has Brady, Rodgers, Stafford, Prescott ... even Murray, who are all FAR better QBs than Hurts.  How many of those guys is Hurts supplanting this season with his play to be playing objectively at a Pro Bowl level?   Consider the AFC has Mahomes, Allen, Watson, Burrow, Tannehill, Carr, Ryan, Herbert, Jackson, Wilson -- who are ALL unquestionably better.  That's TEN guys in the AFC.  How many of those guys will Hurts be objectively better than by the end of this season?

Again I would ask -- how do you quantify "Pro Bowl level" to justify a $30M+ contract??

Just so I am clear on this... what exactly is 'Pro Bowl' level?   Kyler Murray was a Pro Bowler.  Is that the level we are looking for to invest heavily at that position?

Huh?  I'm not a believer in Hurts at all but I don't really see how this applies to him.

1) These WRs are doing it specifically because their market was reset this offseason

2) Unless he dramatically improves his level of play he has zero leverage. He's a mediocre at best QB and the Eagles have invested heavily already into next year's draft which should have multiple possible QB prospects. Replacement level players can't really hold out for more money.

3) Again Hurts isn't a good QB IMO, but he also has done nothing so far to suggest he's a selfish player or poor leader etc like Murray.

Not sure I agree with the reasoning, though I'm don't think that he'd play that card.

1 - The QB market seems to be reset every offseason.

2 - At his current level, he's a hop, skip and a jump from being a "Pro Bowler", and as we've just seen, that means something to some people.  And, you know his agent would be trying to leverage that.  Kyler Murray shouldn't be paid $30M+ but he's been a Pro Bowler, so... he's pushing for that.

3 - This is where we agree.  He will likely want an extension and raise, but I don't think he'd go public with it or sit out OTA's, etc.

One of my favorites mentioned him a few weeks ago

Tyrod Taylor played at a Pro Bowl level, lets give him $30+ million a year

WR with #39 is gross

Tyrod Taylor and Hurts are eerily similar players, on an eerily similar trajectory so far.

I'm surprised the Tyrann Mathieu signing hasn't been announced.   Thought he was a lock to ring the bell at the Sixers game tonight.

Watch him travel to the game just to troll us

Bell hasn't been rung yet... there's still time.  Maybe they will announce it at 6:30 PM, and then he'll run over from the Nova Care Complex Presser and ring the bell immediately.  They could have a drone camera on him following him on the run, just like the Olympic torch entering the stadium for the opening ceremonies.  He gets handed the hammer at the Complex by Gritty, and then he runs over to the WF Center... with the Phanatic riding his four - wheeler alongside.  That way all 4 teams can get involved in the festivities.

I'm sure someone has already spotted him at the airport.

As far as age in this year's draft, depends where you draft and for what role.

Drafting high it's an issue if you think you're getting a player you want to sign to a 2nd contract, so 22 would be 26 in their 1st rd option year, and 2nd contract takes you to 29-30. But a 24 year old player is 28 in option year, so you're now signing them into their 30/31 year.

After the first round, it's less of an issue on a second contract unless a player is 25 or so (last season 28).

After the third round, age can be a plus, you're less likely to sign the player to a long-term deal but older players are physically mature and more likely to contribute right away, so if you're drafting for depth and short-term starters/rotation guys, there could be some bargains. But this also makes it harder to get them through waivers if they're "players," since they can help another team now.  So I can see a mix of older players and raw projects (some headed to the PS).
