Okay?  First season of a rebuild where we turned it around from an absolutely miserable 4-11-1 season and were able to make the playoffs on a 7-2 run to secure a playoff birth a week before the final week of the season.  Pretty good start but then again so many in this blog have completely irrational expectations leading to their constant state of misery.

You must impress easily. I’ve said it many times, neither 7th seed had any business being there. They were only there because the league wanted the revenue from an extra playoff game. The very definition of fools gold. Again, what reason do we have to have confidence in those in charge of this rebuild?

I suppose the confidence is based in the weakness of the schedule and the continuation of the 7 seed into perpetuity and likely add an 8 seed soon.

The Eagles are currently a middling team.  Certainly not contenders nor doormats.

The question is how far the roster is away from being a contender.  I would argue far enough there shouldn’t be an argument for any player on the roster over 30 to be an important component.  The way I see it the Eagles are this far away from contending:

2 DL building blocks

1 stud LB 

1 lockdown CB

2 serviceable S

1 WR1 (or WR2 if you believe Smith can be WR1)

2 OL (one OT and one IOL)

1 RB who can be a 3-down player

1 QB who can distribute the football 

 

That’s 11 players by my count.  Sounds like 2-3 more years with good management

Arik Gilbert looked like a stud in their spring game.  

Side note, YouTube TV is a really easy way to get good sports content without a huge bill.  Have the ACC, SEC and BIG10 channels to go along with the traditional sports channels, FS1, multiple NFL channels and the local Philly Comcast.  Been fun being able to watch all of the spring games.

In that scenario, Rams move up to the two seed, Bucs move to 3 and we still would have played them.  This entire debate is dumb, and any team in the playoffs would have waxed us.

The problem is we have bias to the team. Of course we dont view the eagles as doormats but i would argue that point for any other team. Jags,lions, and falcons record show no context of reality. We were blown out a few games as well and majority of their losses were 7 points or less with 2 minutes or less. That could and should've been us sadly as i agree there is plenty roster building to be done. At this rate i expect more average seasons or one and done purgatory.  Still trying to remember the last time we developed a star or very well respected skill position on offense or defense that ppl had to gameplan for. Not counting any lineman even though it has been a strength to the organization and ill never diminish the importance of it. Yet we are in a league id rather take chances on safeties and corners and WRs. Impact play(int,ff,pbu's,rac,yac,etc) % vs block/win rate %.(protection,pancakes,sheds,pressures,sacks). Leaning towards option 1.
