I want a QB. I don't care about wasting a pick. No player in this draft is in my opinion worth me having to watch Hurts play QB another season. So what we get a good DE or CB. Is that really worth an entire season of garbage?  It's one starter

Illogical thinking.

I never liked Zach Wilson.  I always thought he looked like a poorly smeared xerox of how Mahomes played in college.

He put up big stats against ordinary competition and had a big arm, but had very little precision or true passing finesse to his game.

This is how I would classify the ascending levels of mobility:

Statue...Peyton Maning.

Pocket mobility...can move around the pocket, roll out, make throws on the move.  Foles.

Pocket elusiveness...sheds rushers. Mahomes/Wentz

True threat to gain yards and 1st downs with legs.  Hurts/Tebow/Allen/Mcnabb.

Elite with ball in hands like a top returner.  Vick/Randall.

Celtics wouldn't have traded down with the Sixers if they were going to take Tatum.

Not sure the back story here.  Did the Celtics and 76ers have an agreement that they will trade the pick as long as they don't take Tatum?  Seems kinda risky as the Lakers could have taken Tatum at #2 regardless.

Dude should be the closer for the Phillies, he’s a simple arse, but he can play.

Greg Knapp getting killed last July really hurt the development of Wilson.  LaFleur has made a living coaching weak armed, somewhat mobile QB’s in Ryan and Jimmy G.  Knapp having way more experience with different style QB’s wouldn’t have pigeonholed Wilson in a half assed dink and dunk, west coast, Kyle Shanahan offense.
If that’s what the Jets wanted, they should of drafted Fields or Jones since both are used to playing behind clean pockets and both are accurate out to 10-15 yards. Fields made some 2nd reaction plays off platform at Ohio St, Jones not so much at Alabama, but Wilson became the 2nd pick in the draft doing it at BYU all the time.
It would be like Andy Reid telling Mahomes, "no RPO’s and no deep passes to Hill, you have to master the 5-7 yard out to the sideline first.”
The smartest thing Rex Ryan has said and it was probably stolen, "Football is easy, coaches make it hard.”

Wilson will be fine. He'll be much better next year, and if my memory is right, he was starting to pick up some steam late last season.

👎 Peyton a statue? Ran for a few TDs faster than Brady.

Sadly this problem is worst than fans realize.

Celtics decided they didn't want Fultz less than a week before the draft and made it known they were now shopping the #1 overall pick.  Colangelo eagerly jumped all over it and the deal was contingent on Fultz showing up for a workout.  He did, it was live streamed, he couldn't hit a shot.  Sixers were all in on him though and did the trade with the Celtics.  I'd say it's pretty obvious that if the Sixers wanted to trade up but were doing so for Tatum that I doubt the Celtics would have done the trade.  Also wasn't even like Tatum was seen as the 2nd best prospect that year with Ball seen as the 2nd best coming out of the draft.

Lakers weren't going to take Tatum.  It was a Ball-Lakers love affair and the Lakers were all in on the publicity it was bringing with it.  At that point when the Celtics opened up trade talks less than a week before the draft it was pretty well known the Lakers were set on Ball at #2.

I’ve looked through a few pre-draft visit trackers and the only teams I see bringing Carson Strong in have been PIT, WAS, and TEN.  The Eagles and a few other teams did interviews with him, but not official visits or private workouts.

If I had to guess Strong’s draft slot it would be at #113 to WAS.  The Steelers don’t seem likely because Tomlin says he values a mobile QB.  WAS has pick #11 and #47 in the first two rounds, they don’t have a 3rd round pick, but I could see them taking Strong in the 4th round — and I can see Strong still being on the board at that slot.

well there you go. Its nick foles all over again. We drafted him, and people were surprised at his athleticism. Next thing you know you see basketball highlights and people in the know are like- well he was an excellent basketball player. He IS athletic. Unfortunately with Strong's arm I dont think we can get him in round 4 like Foles. But thats ok. Ill take him as early as we need to.

Nick Foles was a 1st round prospect had he came out when he should have but stayed for an extra year, got the crap beat out of him on a horrible team and his draft stock dropped.

I’d be shocked if the Eagles don’t take a QB in the first 3 rounds…they believe they are the QB factory after all.  I don’t think that mindset has changed.

Not to mention foles was a 3rd round pick not 4th.

Which coincidentally the 3rd is where strong is projected to most likely go as well

If Zach Wilson dropped to the 3rd round for sure!

Would easily take strong in the 3rd

Where are Bobby Douglas and Fran Tarkenton?  :nonono:

Dan Marino was the most statuesque... he started out immobile, and then he tore his Achilles and became a lawn ornament.

I'd love to buy low on a talented WR after 1 year...and I had an eye on him in the draft (although not near 20, more if he fell).

His utility would be as a returner and a highly shifty underneath, elusive weapon.  He'd fit as that underneath #3...and it would be the first time (maybe ever) that our slot/3 type was actually elusive and could make plays with the ball in his hands.  So we need those things.  That's the good part.

Overall, I don't like him for us.  It sounds like he's a real handful.  And our primary need is still for a more linear, downfield, outside threat.

Yup me too, he could go earlier as he's a QB and teams always over draft QB.

I think he has first round arm talent and the best arm talent in the draft

I think the knee is what will ultimately scare teams off him early as it was a pretty serious injury

One could say well he played at a small school so...

So did Wentz, so did Willis at liberty and many have him as the number one QB.

Carson strong has the requisite arm talent to succeed in the NFL, he shows functional mobility on tape, he has had a good senior season stat wise, at 6'3" no one is worried about height issues, he played in an offense where he made calls at the line instead of his coach calling plays at the line for him.

Only thing keeping him from being mentioned with the many possible first round qbs in this class is the knee, also he doesn't have baby hands, so that's a plus😁

Dan Marino was mobile in the pocket in a subtle way, he manipulated the pocket And the rush with subtle steps, I think after he tore his Achilles though he even lost the ability to move how he did before, and yeah he was as you say a lawn ornament

ESPN had a special a while back titled top 10 mobile qbs, Randall and Steve young were obvious inclusions but to the surprise if everyone Dan Marino was included, the narrator went on to describe Marino's mobility within the pocket to avoid the rush and find passing lanes with subtle steps to the left or right or stepping up into the pocket.

He always has two hands on the ball as well ready to pass even when he's climbing or stepping to the right or left, he played QB the right way.

I said when we drafted Nick Foles, 1 decade ago, that I liked the notion of drafting big frame, tall, arm-talent passers after round 1 and letting them compete for the job.  It's a lot cheaper (and maybe even statistically safer) than putting all your eggs in one basket for a 5 year marriage to just one QB and  handing over the reigns.

It didn't exactly work out for Foles.  And we all got on the Wentz wagon when they did commit to that marriage a few years later.

Now, maybe it is time to get back to that mindset.  Sure, if you find yourself in the draft position (top 5) in a year where there is a Trevor Lawrence, then pull the trigger and be happy about it.  But that's just not going to be our path.  The Eagles aren't going to be that bad and (even next year) there are no ultra high end check every box prospects.  (No, there really aren't next year either).

If someone has a big arm, a big frame, a good attitude, teachable nuance as a passer, and is available outside of round 1...why would you not bring them in?  Until we find the answer at QB, the goal should be to bring in one such player between rounds 2-4 in every draft.  (Davis Mills was the prime example from last year's draft).  Exactly how much you like them should impact if you pounce in round 2 or wait until 3 or 4.

For me, I would not let Strong go past our 2nd.
