Name me a FS with that kind of size. Seriously. College film is against college players, but the NFL game is faster. There's a reason you can't name anyone.

You have clearly not watched Hamilton play and are just going off of his size

"To me, it’s a square peg, round hole, at least while they’re young and really learning."

In other words, if you can spend a couple years developing them, but you're not going to plug and play them in a conventional scheme. But as Lawrence, Wilson and Lance showed last season, and Burrow and Allen before them, it's going to be 2-3 years for almost any young QB, even the ones that aren't flops.

Just a gentle reminder... Burrow was on pace for 4300 yards passing as a rookie with a TD:INT ratio that was better than 5:2.  He tore his ACL in the 10th game.   he didn't take time to really develop.  (And that was with a 65% comp rate.).  This year, with Chase, he exploded with a 70%+ comp pct., but slightly lower TD:INT ratio.

That's what a true #1 overall QB looks like nowadays with the rules in place for passing offenses now.

Allen was a raw prospect with unbelievable physical tools, which is why he went #7.  Darnold was considered more polished, and went earlier.  And I have no idea what Cleveland was thinking taking Mayfield at #1 overall.

None of these QBs fit the mold of either a Burrow or Allen as I see them, but its possible that one could rise to the top with proper coaching and building an offense around his particular skillset.  (Carson Strong).  There are others possible, but longer odds to me.

Seuamlo is an almost 8m cap hit this year with almost 6m of cap hit buried into the next 3 dummy years.

I don't know exactly how they plan to use him, but that's a lot of money to sit the bench.

Seumalo's salary is less than 6M. He can easily be traded for future picks if we draft an iOL on day 2.

My preference on day 2 is LB/CB/S (essentially the back 7). However, we're in rebuild mode so BPA is fine.

Hamilton at 15, Cline at 18.

Who knows? More I read about Hamilton, he's really not a good fit without a true FS, like Chancellor and Thomas in Seattle.

He's going to struggle in coverage in the NFL as a pure safety, he's more of a S/LB hybrid, maybe even move to LB like Urlacher did.

Then you want to go Hill/Hamilton. Hill is probably the best in coverage in the draft class (but he does hiccup at times).  If I was going to pair with Cine, it would be Brisker.

It's early.  But it's gonna take some real work to come up with a dumber take then,  "Kyle Hamilton = Brian Urlacher", today.

Yup not only are they different in size but Brian Urlacher was used differently at new mexico than Hamilton was at ND.

Urlacher was the " Lobo back" in stoney case defensive scheme, which was basically a roving LB in a 4-4

Hamilton was employed more as a safety that lined up all over covering TEs RBs sometimes slot receivers dropping in zones playing deep or in the box, blitzing off the edge or from nickel spot and he doesn't have the same bulk Urlacher did.

He's more long and lean than Urlacher.

I’ll tell you something to watch out for. What if they take Nik Bonitto in the 2nd round and double up on pass rushers? I think it’s too high for him, but man, I’ve heard some things about Howie digging him.

Reading jetrolot, it begins to sound like this could potentially be our first 4 picks.

Jordan Davis

Karalaftis

Dean (or Bonitto)

trade up from 83 for Jurgens.

Im wondering if we could be moving to a more full time 3-4 considering we are looking at a big NT like Davis or Jones, and are still interested in Bonitto after signing Reddick.

I've been convinced of the full-time move to the 3-4 or, the 4i. Same difference. Signing Reddick clinched it for me. So, yeah, I'm in on Davis or Jones as well. If they get one of those two, I can also see Dean in the 2nd. That big body in front of him can keep him clean.

If Peter King is right and Thibodeaux falls, Howie better get on that. Don’t think he will though, he’s too talented.

Yeah I don't think he's going to make it out of the top 10 but I mean if he does then there's reason to be concerned there.

Kyle Hamilton reminds me of Reggie White

Mind blown, and not in a good way.

Would say Hamilton is the next Ray Lewis but that would be racist

Urlacher was a top FS in college, athletic, smart but got moved to LB b/c his height and coverage skills made him a tough fit at safety in the NFL.

Chancellor stayed at SS b/c he had a great ball hawking FS playing deep.

Hamilton would be great for matchups against top TEs, but how will he hold up against quick, change of direction WRs?

Name me a NFL FS with that kind of size. And the box safety is pretty much an obsolete position.

I can see Hamilton in a hybrid role, wrecking havoc, but you'd have to build your defense around that role.

Hamilton, much like Chancellor has great instincts.  But you can see occasions where his speed is a bit of a liability.  I don’t think he is a SS/LB type hybrid. But I don’t think he pairs well with a player like Epps (best playing downhill).  You need a speed FS then and the Ss aren’t as interchangeable  (Of course, that kind of is the case with Epps and Wallace on the roster right now, as it is.).   Now the Eagles might roll the dice with one of the very green speed Ss they have on the roster (Mayden - whose instincts kept him off the field at Alabama, Chachere - more athlete than S, or Vincent - who they traded for but Howie keeps calling a CB.  I liked the plays Vincent had at S at LSU, but like Hill, he played a lot of slot CB and there is the size issue).  But that’s a huge roll of the dice and a big gamble.

I suspect that ultimately Gannon wants to be able to mix up his coverages. That means some Coverage 1.  But I loved the way Belichek plays the Coverage 1 where the Ss read the play and the S that plays the deep zone is based on read in play where there is a rotation of the S that drops.

Odds tell you he won't get out of the first.

History tells you he won't get out of the first

Common sense tells you numerous organizations reach for QB's.

when I get to my phone I'll screen shot it but it basically says Vegas/Odds expect Corral to be picked between 15 and 25.

I think 15-18 was +120 ish, 18-21 was +110, 21-25 was +130

Odd's tell you what people's money is on, history tells you about the past, IF 3 QB's go in the first my money right now would be on Pickett, Willis and Ridder. Ridders got a more prototypical frame and a better resume.

Three is the ceiling for 1st round QBs this year and I think the 3rd one picked might be Detroit trading back in to 32 for the 5th year option. Corral's stock has been dropping recently, he may even end up behind 'chinese knock off Mayfield' Sam Howell.

Pickett is the only one I would even consider picking first round, Willis is being drafted in the hope he can put it all together eventually and you don't draft 1st round based on that, he's basically Jalen Hurts with a rocket arm and a lower level of college achievement.

I haven't seen that anywhere. Any reason behind it?

Pickett to the Panthers,

I don't think they draft a QB unless they trade back.  They don't have another pick until 137.  Hard to take a guy you are going to probably redshirt with only 1 pick in the top 100.

For anyone who was looking forward to seeing Simmons passing the ball tonight, make other plans. He is sore after practicing yesterday so the poor guy is gonna take the night off. Pray for him please.

That's what you're going with?  Because you haven't seen a safety that tall before?  And then you're going to sprinkle in the "NFL Game is faster" line?  Like no one knows that?  I'll tell you what I tell everyone who says that dumb ish.  These guys aren't finished products when they enter the draft, they are allowed to progress as they become professionals too.  They compete against the level of competition that is in front of them in college and then grow as their level of competition grows.

As far as the "name one FS with that kind of size"....that's why he's a freak.  If you have seen him run the field on that grass at ND, you'll know he's a safety.  A freakish one.  But go ahead with your Brian Urlacher comp.  It's on brand for you.

Did you watch Urlacher in college? He was a real safety with safety speed. He was a true unicorn.

Mark Hatley, then vice president in charge of personnel, once confided to this reporter that serious Bears thought was given to playing Urlacher at safety. Hatley and the Dick Jauron coaching staff reasoned that Urlacher’s mix of size, speed, instincts and skills had the potential of producing a safety unlike any ever seen in the NFL.

I am getting more down as the draft gets closer. The thought of Howie playing this straight and trying to improve the team by outdrafting other teams over a few years seems destined to fail in a very slow and boring fashion.

How much different would our Defense look with Davis, Elam, Paschal, Cook & Asamoah added?

Only one trade back.

I feel quite the opposite. I'm unadvisedly excited and confident.

They need a "save Ben” shirt to be made which would be a play off of "save ferris” from ferris buelers day off.

Trades:

15, 101, 2023 3rd for 13 and 2023 5th [HOU]

237 for 254 and 260 [LAC]
