Howard Eskin called into WIP. Said their top target was Gardner. Then Thibodeaux. Then tried to trade up for Williams. Then Davis was their next guy.

Im happy to get Davis, this is soo much better than Reagor, Barnett, or a fireman. Feel like howie took a solid player, one we will get the value out of. No big risk there.

I have a different take.

This is a great pick because it’s high floor AND high ceiling.

A realistic worst case scenario is he’s a very good 2 down run stuffer who occupies two blockers on 2nd down and frees up the pass rush. Not what you want ideally out of a top 15 pick, but that’s a pretty high floor that projects very well at the NFL level. So, it’s relatively safe.

What gets me juiced though is that the only way to really stop modern passing is immediate pressure up the middle. Davis has that potential. He’ll be one of the most powerful players in the NFL and he’s pretty damn athletic. Can you coach him and train his body into being a consistent pocket collapser? Maybe — the potential is there! On top of that, at 6’6” he’s going to actually disrupt passing lanes at the LOS.

So you’ve got a low bust potential guy who might be able to become special. Pretty good risk/reward!

I am wild.  I also was fine with getting Johnson or Hamilton at 15, no trade necessary.  I'm not upset about this move, but it was ok not to get Davis and land Johnson or Hamilton.

Kyle Hamilton fell to their laps and they get a guy pushing 400, no pass rush ability, and taking plays off when he is already not playing many steps per game. What a nightmare imo

Hoping he can develop a pass rush. That's not worth it at 13. You might as well traded up and got the real target. 

Davis/Hamilton career paths will be very interesting to watch.  Not quite BG/Earl Thomas but safety is SUCH a huge need on this team.
