"on paper", i think this was a really good draft. if including the UDFAs and the fact that howie rolled the one 1st rounder and got an additional 2nd in 2024, you have to be at least satisfied if not pumped over this year's draft.

None of these players were rookies.

I guess they weren't rookies before they made the team, that's true. If a UDFA that makes a roster isn't a rookie in his first year, what is he? I thought a first year player was a rookie whether or not he was drafted but perhaps not.

By that definition, there are almost zero "run first" QBs in the history of the NFL. Since you just excluded the QB rushing leaders other than Vick.

McNabb didn't stop running until after 2005, the difference, same with Young, etc., is as he matured, he became a better passer and choose his opportunities to run.

But the first few seasons, all these guys ran a lot. As they get experience (and better skill players around them) they pass more and are more selective when they run.

We saw this with Vick under Reid, if Vick had Reid earlier in his career he might have become an elite QB.

Hurts will make this transition or his career will flatline. He knows it, Sirianni knows it, Johnson knows it. But it won't mean he won't run, he'll just be more selective.

No there's plenty of run first QBs, they just suck usually and flame out due to injury or incompetence. Just in recent memory, Lamar, Kaep, Newton are 3 off the top of my head. Each had great regular season success, but folded like lawn chairs in the biggest stages.

As for Hurts....he's been the same guy since college; still doing the same bad things (can't read a defense, struggles staying in the pocket, won't throw to 2/3rds of the field). You can say all the right things between our last game and our first game, but when the live bullets start flying in September, I'd bet a lot more money that he reverts to his same old habits. I'd be gleeful if he can actually become a competent passer.

There is a precedent on this team for under qualified prospects getting the starting qb job without competition.  So don’t put Strong at 0.0%.

Yup, there's (real) recent precedent for that.

Steve Young mehh.......did you see how he played in Tampa???!!!!!

He was a bench warmer in SF!!!!

If we give Hurts 5 years on the bench, he might be Steve Young!

Strong will at least keep the 2nd half of preseason games entertaining.

You mean the guy with the average arm? Who struggled in TB? 2nd season (25 years old), 53.7%, 8-13, QB rating 65.5. Then sat on the bench for 4 years in SF.

God forbid a guy struggles on the worst team in the NFL.

Leading rusher, James Wilder, leading WR, Gerald Carter.

Steve Young had a better arm than Hurts.

Qb class is loaded...

Young, Stroud, Dyke, Rattler, Jurkovec are top of the class with a few others who will throw their names in the mix

It's very unlikely that Strong plays this year. But to think it's a 0 percent chance is foolish. Not surprising that it's RTK pounding this. Guy will openly root against Strong, even if he turns out to be a better QB than anybody on the roster now. He very well may not do anything, but it's so strange to openly root against him.

Most of us want Hurts to be good....but we've seen enough to know he won't. We still want him to succeed as it means the best for the team. RTK is a fake fan.

He's not the only one pulling the 0.0% chance on Strong.  He's just the most abrasive.

I agree. Preseason will be more entertaining to see how all the QBs perform.

We have 5 QBs. How long is that gonna last?

I disagree with #2. I’ll agree that they want their offense to start with Henry, but they used a 2nd on Brown, traded a 2nd for Jones, traded for Woods and just used a 1st on Burks. The passing game is still important to them.

Some teams, like the Steelers, are fine using picks on WRs but not paying them. Looks like that applies to the Titans.

AJ Brown is awesome. I don't think he'll be here for 10 years due to injuries, but 4-5 years of very good to great production is a reasonable outcome.

Yup, add Tanner Mckee and Anthony Richardson to that list as well.

Definitely could shape up to be a jumbo QB class.

Rattler is a bum

He has some growing up to do. The talent is there

Looking to see if the plan to fortify the front seven works.

I hope the addition of speed and athleticism creates a lot of chaos and havoc for the opposition.

Not that different from the Giants SB teams, where their front seven made the secondary irrelevant at times.

I bet Strong won't sit out a preseason game because he has the Hurts Squirts............

Slovis- looking to bounce back after a mediocre year.  Throw Hooker and Levis in there as well. Not saying any of those guys are 1st rders but they're better then the guys who were drafted this year imo

Our of curiosity, after seeing how the picks played out, how do we feel about trading pick 16 to the Saints for 101/2023 1/2024 2?

Was there anyone available at that pick that changes your thoughts? I’d say the popular name is Jermaine Johnson, but considering how far he ended up falling he ended up not being as highly thought of as we were led to believe.

Romo spent 3 years as the 3rd string QB before becoming the backup in his 4th and then taking over for a washed end of his career Bledsoe mid-season.  Kurt Warner played professionally for years in NFL Europe before signing as the Rams 3rd string QB.

Mcnabb wasn't a run first QB by the time he got to the Super Bowl because.......he got hurt!  Which is my point.   He wasn't the same player.....he evolved because he could make the throws.    But if he didn't get hurt.....he would have still been scrambling as much as he was his first 2 years.

If hurt=fat then yeah I agree...

If I had to guess

Hurts #1.

Minshew traded for a CB/S.

Sinnett 2nd String.

Perry 3rd String.

Strong to IR.

For those of you on the "Hurts just needs to be a little better" bandwagon, is that the QB level you want to hand a big extension to that ties up cap space?  I think not.  Even if he has a good 2022, I'd make him repeat it in a final contract year to avoid the "one year wonder" designation.

Of course the talent is there.  He’s a mix between Manziel and Baker.

To me he has a lot of Mahomes to him. I'm not saying he is but his style of play is similar. I can see the Manziel at times

He hates college football but claims to be forced to watch it because he has like 3 channels.  Or something like that.

I can tell. I love college football
