You need to realize if you think there is any chance he earns the stating job this year or next that you are completely detached from reality.  This blog is not filled with knowledge people.  No one outside of this blog is even discussing the potential for Strong to become the starting QB here because it isn't even a remote possibility.  It is in no way whatsoever any intention of the Eagles.

Good take, you've parrotted the exact same thing as your previous 10 posts.

Why bother to keep typing out the same Just save your self and us the time and copy and paste wash rinse and repeat...

6 foot 195lb QB from Alabama....

Ohio State QB

How many times does the NFL, and this world have to be tricked into thinking these kids ARENT good and it's the fact they're surrounded by a class talent, with more coaches than any other college playing against guys who will be UPS drivers next week

So neither are good because of the schools they go to? Great take

Our of curiosity, after seeing how the picks played out, how do we feel about trading pick 16 to the Saints for 101/2023 1/2024 2?

Was there anyone available at that pick that changes your thoughts? I’d say the popular name is Jermaine Johnson, but considering how far he ended up falling he ended up not being as highly thought of as we were led to believe.

Still an amazing trade.

Next picks were: Dotson, Zion Johnson, Burks, Penning, Pickett, McDuffie, Walker, Elam.

With the potential exception of Elam, none of them fit what we prioritize from a position-value standpoint or from a prospect quality standpoint.

The Saints' pick next year should fall between 8-16. That's a wide range, but we'll likely get a better prospect.

Yep.  I don’t know how anyone, who is a football fan, can hate college football.

No I haven't. I'll have to check that out

Don’t have the one team I root for there, which makes it less interesting.

For those of you on the "Hurts just needs to be a little better" bandwagon, is that the QB level you want to hand a big extension to that ties up cap space?  I think not.  Even if he has a good 2022, I'd make him repeat it in a final contract year to avoid the "one year wonder" designation.

With what the Eagles have done for Hurts, he needs to be on the level of Tannehill's 2020 season, which is AJ Browns best season so far as a pro.

Anything less than that, the Eagles need to move on and find the next QB.

You don't need a team to make it interesting

Personally I saw a huge talent drop-off at 15, so I am really happy we traded up to 13 and then traded pick 18 for Brown.

As far as Johnson, I think Karlaftis is going to be the far better player, but he doesn't really fit what we want anymore in DEs. I think the defensive philosophy is coming into focus - massive players at DT to push the pocket, speed off the edge to force qbs to step up, and speed at LB to clean up whatever is left.

The  Hefty Lefty.  I was always pulling for him to make it as a pro.  How can you not pull for a guy built like a beer league softball player.

I do. Just watching games enjoying any nice play no matter by whom doesn’t really move the needle for me.

You don't enjoy the competition of these kids playing just for the love of the game? The rivalries? Atmosphere? Traditions?

I hate 95% of college football. Thus I hate college football. But the hate I have for real housewives, NBA, the News, etc etc is off the charts

Do you hate college basketball too?

Thought I would dust off the 4i discussion in light of our draft and FA signings. Some thoughts on LBs and DBs too.

To refresh, the first goal of the 4i is to control the opponent's running game with four guys vs. the offense's five OL. The key player in this alignment is the NT, playing a 0-tech, i.e. head-up on the center. Gannon ran quite a bit of this last year but he did not have a true NT who could dominate the opposing center. He tried it with Cox and, as we know, Cox bridled at this. He didn't like having to face double-teams on every snap, which is understandable. In the screen shot above, Hargrave is the 0. He's a nice player but not one to dominate the C through sheer power. Nor did he require a double team. And, because he did not require a double team, there was always a guard with a free run to the MLB.

Well, we have that guy now. Davis requires the double team and, as a result, keeps the MLB clean. Anyone who watched the NCAA playoffs last January will remember Dean running free sideline to sideline, and in our one-and-done playoff, watching David run free because Vea kept him clean.

My point here is that Davis not only is a better NT than anyone we have had but he makes the MLB a better player too.

Getting back to that four vs. five, the DTs shade into the B gaps and the NT has both A gap responsibilities. The MLB reads the OL at the snap and can fill the A gap or run free to the outside on any wide plays. With the monster at NT you can control the run with four guys.

That leaves you with seven defenders. The two OLBs threaten the edges and can either come or drop into coverage. Their alignment makes setting a hard edge easier and, when they do, that free-running MLB has a clear path to the RB. It also makes passes into the flats more difficult. We saw how the Bucs dominated out bread-and-butter outside zone doing this. Sweeps, stretch plays, outside zones and bubble screens are more difficult to block because the defenders are already there.

Because you can control the running game with four defenders you don't have to walk a safety up into the box and your CBs have less run support responsibilities. That makes those five DBs better players because they're required to do less. You can play with two high safeties, giving support to both sides of the field.

I recall saying , when we signed Reddick, that we were committing to this defense. He's going to be facing single blockers and OTs who are threatened on their inside shoulder by the DTs in the 4i. Tough duty for those OTs.

Thoughts on the DBs and LBs will be deferred to another post.

Do you watch other NFL games, or just the Eagles ??  How does watching the highest quality of football, regardless of the jersey not move the needle for you.

My first question, regardless of the reason, Davis did not have a high snap percentage last year.  Who is going to give him a breather ??

Wouldn't the offense go pass heavy against this, and then run when Davis has to come off the field ??

Trust me, not trying to question your post, curious how this works without two Davis type players to rotate.

Also, do Cox and Hargrave play along side Davis up front ??

Correct, because of the talent and systems around them it doesnt allow them to be "true" QB's nor grow as NFL style QBs,

Mac jones is a huge outlier who's only had 1 year. I mean OSU is so bad at producing QB's some of them have to leave the position, go play else where in the NFL.

Young is the best overall qb prospect Saban has ever had imo. I hate OSU and their QBs ( @Jenkins27) but Stroud doesn't look like the typical OSU qb they have had throughout the years. I don't trust him still but it doesn't mean he will suck in the NFL. These "systems" have also been adopted by the NFL to help players

Because it keeps happening, let's once again try and explain the difference between a running QB and a QB that can run.

Josh Allen is a QB that can run. He will have the occasional QB run called, but in large will read the field and take off only if need be. If for whatever reason the run game is completely shut down, he can still kill you with his arm.

Jalen Hurts is a running QB. He has several running/option plays built into the offense and is limited in passing. Too often, as we've all seen, he will leave a clean pocket or get ready to run as soon as he finishes his drop. If the running game is shut down, he can do nothing in terms of throwing the ball. See Tampa.

Either people are actually that stupid or they're intentionally missing the point. Likely both.

So in this alignment are Davis Cox and Hargrave all going to be on the field at the same time?

Love the enthusiasm.

We need to add some free agents to CB S DE.

Not sure what money we have left after trade and extend of AJ Brown.

Extend on A J Brown.  Not restructure, not new contract, extension.  That means we get one year of Brown’s rookie contract and added four years (and knowing Howie, some phantom void years). Brown gets his signing bonus now but that is prorated and the majority of the salary and roster/workout bonuses will probably increase in years three and four (four and five years down the road) and likely most of the $43 million not guaranteed is in those years.

I don't know.  There's like 3 seasons.  It's all worth a watch.  Jake Fromm was in the first season.  Justin Fields in one season.  All while they are seniors in HS.  Rattler is a grade A dckbag.  Also got caught cheating and had to sit out a large portion of his senior season.

I'll check it out this weekend if I have time. There's no question he has growing up to do

Just to point out, while Davis didn't play a ton of snaps regular season in the championship I think he had 58 snaps.

Which is about on par with what cox averages in a game per season the last few years.

dont really get into it into Tourney time.

Why's that? Regular season too boring for you? Or you just watch the tournament to gamble?
