Generally speaking though, there’s been debate on what’s better. Building a great roster then looking for the QB or finding a great QB and then building the roster.

I think historically the former is a lot harder to do than the latter. For one, with an elite QB, the roster you need to win a Super Bowl doesn’t have as high a bar as one without an elite QB. But there are franchises that have gone decades without an elite QB. And it’s not like some of them haven’t invested in them either. They’re hard to find. Even when you pick high in a draft.

Think of how many rosters out there in NFL history were Super Bowl caliber, but we just didn’t know it because they didn’t have a good enough QB playing with it.

And also, teams with ready made rosters tend to panic at QB. Like the Niners did this year. Traded all that draft capital to go up and get Trey Fing Lance. Because they didn’t wanna waste the window prime of that roster. So in some ways it could actually increases your chances you never find that QB because you’re either drafting not high enough or making panic moves to fix QB and don’t want to waste the primes of your roster.

On the other hand, if you take care of QB first, I think everything else kinda falls into place. It’s no guarantee, but if you have the best QB in your division, at the very least that’s a great jumping off point to contention. And could be a more attractive destination for free agents.

Hopefully the live look at the reality check Howie and Lurie needed if they thought the team was close.  Finishing 9-8 and just missing out on the playoffs would have spared them the shellacking they took on national TV

we got to experience that playoff jalen Reagor is actually worse than regular season jalen Reagor.

Those are the exact kind of plays I’m talking about. His vision is inconsistent to put it kindly.

3.7 saved, 15.7 million dead.  We are not up to 60 million in dead cap for 2022

deja vous - I think.

So they had 14 million cap space this year, and now have 17.7?

As far as the dead money, I bet they could work a new contract for him to sign and retire with, that would spread some of that out if they want to. Unless they prefer to just eat it all at once.

You can not spread it out.  Once a player retires, it is the same as being cut, and all future money accelerates to the current year.

Yep, and Brooks was a doozy. Made him the highest paid G at the time with an average salary of $14M per year, but gave him cap hits of $9.8M, $7.8M and $7M the last three years. Another case of restructuring one too many times and keeping one too many years.

Yup.  Best part was that he had two years left on that deal when he did the restructure.   Just foolhearty.  Stupid stupid extension.

oh ok. Can they re-structure it so that there is less, or no dead money before he retires?

Being serious, I hope Sirianni got some kind of wake up call from this game. He entered it saying it was just another game all week and this was echoed by the players so you know it was being said in meetings. The gameplan also showed this was their basic approach. "Just another game, do what you did all season to get you there". I'm hoping that he grows and the next time he's in the situation, he realizes it's not just another game. It's the playoffs. You need to bring your A-game. You need to bring something new to the table so that opposing D-coordinators can't just do what they want with you. You need to bring counter punches and adjustments to stay in the game, or you are going to be tossed out of the playoffs in the wild card round, every time.

Nope.  Only relief they could get would be if Brooks paid back signing bonus money.

They can post June 1st it.

Perhaps a harsh dose of reality for the front office to see that they can't run with Hurts for another year.  And that the defense continues to need better talent.

Remember when they were 4-8 in 2011 and then won the last 4 games.  The owner thought they'd accomplished something.  And he ran it back just to finish 4-12 the following year and was forced to make changes.   Maybe that drubbing was enough to send the message... maybe.  Although I'd have thought last year was the time to make ALL the changes that needed to be made.  They missed one.

Hopefully he will do that. But I appreciate the extra 3.7 million!

-Not to try to run outside so much against a fast team when they are good at running between the tackles

-Miles Sanders isn't the right RB for this team

-Reagor and JJAW need to go, cut their losses and move on

-Gannon is a moron who thought sitting back against Brady after it didn't work the first time, would work this time

-The defense needs more playmakers

-Hurts has a long way to go to get better as a passer

-The team desperately needs a good number 2 WR

Plenty of lessons to be learned

Agree.  That is part of the maturation of the very young coaching staff though. Thats a growing pain I can live with... for now, assuming they grow from it.

That is an option, but I think one of those spots is already reserved for Kelce if he retires.

We don’t know that he didn’t. Outside of an obvious trick play, what could we point to and say he didn’t bring something new to the table? I’m not saying he did, but when the QB is that bad it’s hard to tell from TV copy.

One example might be the stutter and go from Smith. It was schemed up and should have been six. Hurts bailed the pocket and threw a pick instead.

Another example could be the Watkins play that Hurts missed him on. Maybe it was a staple play, maybe it was an unscouted look. I couldn’t say.

I do know it’s hard to judge a playcaller when the QB actively holds back the offense.

Boom.

Yeah - I just think he's troubling personally and his behavior is unstable.

There have been so many people over the years from Mixon on down that people on here wanted nothing to do with. Yeah, morally speaking I don't like guys who assault women.

Past that I don't want a freaking circus and I don't want a guy who wants to play GM. That crap impacts what happens on the field as evident with him sitting out the entire year. That is not a guy you give up high picks for on top of everything else.

Yup

I'd agree with all but DG, and add Gainwell.  DG's drops became too frequent toward the end of the season.

I hesitate to offer excuses, but I will in Goedert's case. The Eagles actually ask him to block, unlike, say, Travis Kelce. That beats up his hands.

Some argue that just being in a playoff game is meaningful. I'd maybe agree if the team wasn't getting blown out

Bucs had a good team and got Brady. I think Chiefs had a good team before they got Mahomes but they've been adding since they got him. Not sure what you'd categorize us and Foles with. Broncos had a good team and a great defense when they added Peyton

Regardless of the outcome, I think that bolded part sticks.
