This is the tough part; do you trade Dillard pre-draft or afterward?

I think Howie could get a 3rd round pick for him right away.  If he tries to swing a deal right after the draft to a team that missed in the draft, maybe a 2023 2nd wouldn't be out of the question.

I think if he's traded for a 2023 pick it's likely a training camp deal after everyone has seen their rookies and FAs.  I think there's a good chance he's traded on draft day.   He could definitely be part of a deal to get a QB.

I'm all for inclusion and equality but the Rooney rule seems like the wrong way to go about it.

It needs to be adjusted, but the heart of it was in the right place. The idea was to give minority coaches an opportunity to interview where they were not even given a chance before. It is not like they are forcing teams to hire minority candidates, they are only asking them to give them a fair interview. The NFL is an old boys network where a lot of hires are based off of who people know, and unfortunately most of those are white people.

I mean look at the Eagles - they hired Doug Pederson because of their connection to Any Reid and they hired Nick Sirianni because of his connection to Frank Reich. Neither one of those guys were on anyone's radar. The idea was that there could be some guys that get a chance that they normally would not and then they would knock it out of the park and get the job.

I still feel the biggest issue is in college. The lack of minority coaches in the NCAA directly affects the flow of candidates into the NFL.

Flores probably doesn't care about being back in the NFL. If his allegations are even half true, he will be getting a huge payday from the NFL.

The Rooney rule itself is more racist then what it's trying to correct.

No - it's not racist.  It doesn't dictate anything.  It doesn't limit opportunities for  white people.  It's just a way to provide opportunity for minorities.  Talk to me after the NFL stops hiring dumb white coaches that are re-treads and failures.    I mean the fact that Gannon has had more interviews than DeMeco Ryans should still tell you something about why the rule is needed.

If teams had a doubt about Brian Flores personality, he's just shown them that he's highly strung and not confident in his interview ability to beat another competitor.  Quite arrogant

The Stephen Ross thing is crass but I wouldn't be surprised that certain behaviours are prominent in the NFL on a don't ask, don't tell basis.  He could have ruined certain people's fun because he got pouty about not getting a job

It just doesn't rise to the level of discrimination or racist hiring practices IMO.  I'm a white guy in a fairly specialized industry, and I've interviewed for jobs that I found out later another candidate had been chosen before my interview even took place.  It's disappointing and I even found it unethical -- but it's a stretch to assert that there is a racial bias involved.  The NFL is clearly an "Old Boys Network", and Daboll in this case had a better network than Flores.  It's somewhat distasteful that Belichick apparently vouched for Daboll and not Flores here.  Whether that's because of a racial bias is speculative -- I surely hope not, but it's possible.

The stupidity of it is Flores is still a candidate for the Texans and Saints jobs and has completed interviews.  One would think this episode will give them hesitation about choosing Flores as a candidate.

Not necessarily disagreeing with the overall point. but in this particular scenario Ryans withdrew himself from the Vikings job which he was presumably a finalist. So maybe it's just his decision to not interview with other teams he has no interest in.

I would be embarrassed/insulted , if I were a minority , with the Rooney rule .

Do you think qualified minorities have ever gotten passed up for interviews?

I'd hope it's about more than money, I mean most guys that coach have a true passion for it, be tough to throw it all away for money, especially when one can make good money coaching.

The bombshell report is more that if the owner offered to pay Flores 100k extra to lose games.

Couldve just hired Kotite and not pay that.

Some crowd favorites, maybe some new names. Also, incorporates the tradeback that might seem plausible.

If we end up trading back with the Lions for their first round pick next year, I'll need a change of underwear.  That might be one specific scenario where I'd be fine watching that RB play QB for 1 more season.  If that happens, I'm sure the Lions improve drastically and go 8-9 next season.

But look at the scenario with Flores and the Giants, if its true. If the Giants did settle on Daboll already that should be the end of it. There is no need to bring someone else in just because they are a minority and waste everyone's time.

Ryans has been in coaching for all of 4 years. Gannon has been in scouting and coaching since 2003.

I’m sure , and I’m sure qualified caucasians have been passed up .

I don’t feel forcing owners to interview someone , is the right thing to do .

Yes please! Let the tire-fire continue.

That's what they get for being cheap aholes on fan appreciation day and only giving out a free medium soda to just the ticketholder.

Maybe and I don't think Bienemy is that interested in being a head coach right now.  But no one calls out nepotism in the NFL.  I mean how many sons of coaches are now coaches in the NFL because of their dad.  I mean how was Britt Reid qualified for a paid job? Are people embarrassed for Kyle Shanahan? How many jobs did Mike Shula get because of his last name despite his awful performance at his job.

DeMeco withdrew from a job he probably has a good shot of getting. Gannon also has years of experience on him. The problem is at the NCAA level more so than the NFL in my opinion.

Exactly.

In some respects, you can say that the Flores lawsuit is him flexing to get a job elsewhere by shaming a team into hiring him and not being added to the lawsuit. What an ass

Shanahan…the guy who has been in or on the doorstep of the Super Bowl the majority of his time as a head coach? Nah, nobody is embarrassed for him…other than his two big blunders. Bienemy doesn’t get jobs because he has a bad past and is a clipboard holder for Andy.

Maybe the Giants will try to settle this lawsuit with a medium soda.

Coaching is all about relationships and who you know. You see this with every GM or coaching hire, so and so were roommates in college or whatever. Remember when McVay worked out for the Rams? Everyone wanted their own McVay, a 30 year old offensive genius. Did teams evaluate the traits that make McVay great and look for that in other candidates? Nope. They literally just started interviewing anyone that McVay knew.
