Never seen him play but when a QB has actual arm takent then one can work with it.

McNabb was a pretty raw qb prospect but he had a tin of arm talent and physical ability.

And while he never became a polished passer he was a pretty good deep ball thrower, it was those darn worms that gave him trouble and he was never an elite processor but still light years ahead if hurts.

Hurts doesn't have any if those natural qb traits that one can work with, all his best attributes are intangibles, and while it's nice to have a qb that is well liked and a good leader and works hard if he doesn't have the requisite arm traits it's tough to succeed with just intangibles.

I'd rather have a guy like strong who at least checks the boxes in requisite passing traits to be successful in the NFL.

Have no idea about his intangibles, is he more hurts or more Jeff George.???

Jeff George had all the arm talent In the world but he was a grade A a hole.

No idea about the intangibles...

More on McNabb... one of the things that really messed up McNabb was that he bloated himself up with too much lifting and not enough flexibility.  He over lifted and lost any chance of touch on his passes.  A lot of times even his deep throws would be wobbled balls because he was muscling the ball rather than throwing it.  Strong's touch is night and day.  Just seems almost effortless on these long balls.  No major windup, just steps in to the throw and delivers it.   For my money, I'd be ok trading up even from 15 at the cost of the second round pick, or even just a 3rd to get to the top 10 to grab him.

I wanted the Eagles to draft Humphrey. I was pretty vocal about it. Can't believe he was taken in the 5th. Eagles could've found another future all pro C late in the draft

Edit: 2nd round draft pick. Burboun is kicking in :groovy:

Cool, cool.  He was taken in the second.

Never mind. I was thinking of Trey Smith who I also wanted. Same team lol

Yeah, the word on Smith was medicals but I think teams overthink that way too much.  I'd rather bet on lack of health than lack of talent.

Agreed. He had himself a solid rookie season

I can't either. I still have visions of MSU's Walker blowing by him time and again. I'm thinking NB, probably, as his best position. If he tests 4.3, which he ran in HS, he could be drafted at safety.

I'm just gonna keep telling myself 'I don't want ojabo' so the Eagles draft him then.

Im not upset I’m just glad Dickerson was a hit

we don’t get many hits around here lol

My concern with Strong is the caliber of the defenses he’s played against. I’ve really only watched his highlights, but vast majority of them he has a completely clean pocket and doesn’t move a whole lot. How can he adapt to getting pressured in the NFL? He doesn’t need to be a runner, but he needs to climb and navigate the pocket.

So did anyone actually enjoy this weeks games. I know the Eagles lost but I’m talking about the quality of games. NFL branded this last week of football as super wildcard weekend and I thought it was a horrible week of games. Mostly blowouts and the two games that ended closely really wasn’t that close.

Dallas was down big and the game only got interesting with 5:00 left. Cincinnati went down to the wire but In Reality the Bengals was never in doubt of losing that game and they should have been up by 13.

The NFL needs to get rid of the 7th wildcard team because the matchups put to many bad teams vs much better competition. Just my two "cents”

That's been this entire year...the product of the NFL as a whole has been terrible.

All of the "pundits" seem to have strong late round 1 to early round 2.  I have to imagine the NFL GM's will see his pure passing ability and have him rated much higher.  I don't think he'll shoot up the boards like Zach Wilson did (who I actually think is a much less talented passer and was overhyped last year), but I do think a real GM/coach who knows what to look for in an NFL qb will value him higher than the consensus pre-draft process did.

His mechanics do suffer at times as he throws off-balance, relying too heavily on his arm strength.

He gets the ball out quick, throws guys open deep.  And that arm, dayum.

Good call.  I totally missed that.  Although I still stand by my anti-PFF rant.

Those are unknowns and are reasons he is attainable.

That's always a concern with any QB.  He does have a lot of clean pockets... but then again... he doesn't bail out of the clean pocket either, and still looks to throw even when moving in the pocket.

In the NFL, he's going to be sacked... and likely a lot early on.  But, this OL can pass block... and do so really well, contrary to afan's continuing comments to the contrary.  That will take a hit with Kelce retiring (assuming that holds), but the OT positions are still strong... though they do need a RT of the future... and sooner rather than later.   But, let's remember... Tom Brady is not mobile and Peyton Manning was not mobile and the great Nick Foles was not mobile.  The key is whether or not he has the 'feel' of the pocket and can make those minor shifts inside the pocket to elude the pressure and still get the ball out.  A quality throw away works for me.   In the Kansas State game I posted, he did escape the pocket and throw the ball away a number of times... and even ran forward twice I think.  🤯   Nothing fancy but converted one of them for a first down, IIRC.

A scouting report on Strong posted today:

STRENGTHS:

-Constant improvements in his game

-Sharp and intelligent at LOS

-Improvements as a deep-ball passer, rare upside

-Consistently accurate

-Quick and decisive decision-maker

-Subtle movements inside pocket

-Top-notch arm strength, both for velocity and distance

AREAS TO IMPROVE:

-Ordinary athlete outside of structure

-Sporadic working against pressure

-Trajectory on the deep ball

-Hips fly open too often

SUMMARY: Hidden amongst a less than stellar 2022 quarterback class, Nevada signal-caller Carson Strong may be the cleanest projection at the position this cycle. Strong is a rocket-armed passer who has excelled in the Wolfpack air raid system over the last three seasons. His arm strength is put on full display working outside of the numbers. Strong paints the corners better than anyone in the class, completing outs, comebacks, and back shoulders with ease. In terms of arm strength, Strong can fit the football in some extremely tight windows over the middle of the field. He has some special moments working down the field, exhibiting some noteworthy touch passes. The ball placement has moments of absurdity, especially when placed down the sideline. Strong had a quick and compact delivery, getting the football out of his hands in a flash. The pacing of the football is a work of art, layering the ball to multiple levels of the field. There has been substantial growth for Strong over the last two seasons, developing into one of the more consistent decision-makers and accurate passers in all of college football. Strong is also asked to do as much, or more, at the line of scrimmage than any quarterback in the 2022 class. He has experience setting protections - as well as having the freedom to change plays entirely. Strong navigates the pocket well, finding sweet spots in the pocket to buy extra time. That pocket navigating is the extent of Strong’s ability to maneuver. He is a marginal athlete who has moments of throwing well on the run… but is largely limited to the pocket and brings next to nothing as a runner out of structure. When facing pressure, there are instances of Strong opening up his hips to face too often. This dramatically affects his accuracy, lacking a solid front foot to work receivers in stride. The biggest question mark for Strong’s valuation is going to be his noted knee issues, leaving the medical portion of the process is huge for him. Strong’s projection is an easy one, seeing a substantial floor as a potential starting quarterback on the next level. Stylistically speaking (obviously not a predictor of success), Strong’s game is reminiscent of what makes Tom Brady successful. If the knee does check out, Strong should have every opportunity to hear his name called in the first round, with a QB1 designation not out of possibility.

ONE LINER: "Strong armed passer with the tools to contend to be the top quarterback taken. Knee issues leave major questions.”

FINAL GRADE: 1st Round | 19-32 | Very good player (8.1)

NFL COMPARISON: Carson Palmer (retired)

I’m willing to bet by the time the draft comes around the consensus will be he moves into the top 20 (assuming he checks out medically at the combine with teams)

Yup McNabb his first 3 years was pretty lean around 220 then he bulked up as high as 260 but played around 240 and yeah the extra bulk hurt his game and flexibility.

I'll have to watch some tape of strong, whatever Howie decides to do eagles won't be able to have a competitive passing offense with hurts under center.
