I wouldn’t be thrilled if they draft any of this QB class in the first and struggle to accept any of them Day 2.   Best available QB is Jameis Winston.  A UFA and the Saints are way over the cap.  If that is the case, could you stomach another year of Hurts or would you be happy with a Winston signing.  In the draft, Dustin Crum has as much of a chance of success as the ones playing at the Senior Bowl and Corral.  Would you accept Crum as a Day 3 selection?

I haven't heard much about it, but why is Jeff Lurie's son becoming more involved? Besides the obvious reason of being the owners son.

Lurie’s age and the amount of the team that he owns.

Willis is a lot closer to Vick than he is to Hurts, but Vick couldn't read a defense either, so...

While I agree and he has a good arm, his arm is no where near as good as Vicks.

Though to be honest, few were/are.

If they drafted someone like Willis, it would be to replace Minshew in a year.

Actually, that would apply to any QB you took in this draft.

Didn't see that.  Thanks.

The kid had a "rotational internship” with the NFL from 2017-19.

I can’t blame a father for grooming a son to take over the family business.

From the Athletic for those curious about Julian Lurie's involvement and future with the team.

Julian, who graduated from Harvard in 2017, previously completed the NFL’s junior rotational program, which is a two-year program that rotates participants through different departments of the league office. He’s now getting more exposure to the team side, with a visible trip to the Senior Bowl as part of the process. Jeffrey Lurie has been seen at the Senior Bowl in the past. Julian has already been a notable behind-the-scenes figure in the organization in recent years, even joining head-coaching interviews. This is comparable to the steps of other children who have taken over NFL franchises..

Fully agree, hard to find anyone that's at the same level as Vick with his cannon. I was just trying to say I think Willis has a higher ceiling than Hurts does and that he would be closer to Vick in his skill level than he is to Hurts.

You would have to draft Willis in the 1st to get him. So you are essentially saying they would use a 1st rounder to replace a backup.

I would take Wilson or Watson (with a few notable requirements) depending on price. I'm leaning toward Carson Strong from what I'm reading from posters on here if we draft someone.

And yes if I have to I can live with another year of Hurts and during that year I would be ever so hoping that he could change his flaws

Where have I heard that fable before?

What's he like? He played for Liberty that's not exactly a football powerhouse is it?

Jalen Hurts with a cannon in a less competitive conference

100% agree

I'm guessing that's a good thing for us if Stoutland likes him

I’d add there been some who think he winds up being the first QB taken in this draft. so not only in the first you might have to move up to get him.

you had me till the bottom. I cant seriously watch another year of Hurts, unless we at least have a QB of the future in development, who might see some action next year. I'd be ok if you said Minshew is the placeholder. Likely same amoung of wins, just our WR's would at least have a shot at developing a bit.

In his defense when he committed he was like give me liberty or give me death so he’s got that swag

Of course, he and his staff are doing their due diligence on all the QB prospects.  I am sure they have people at the Shrine practices doing the same thing.  I would think those that insist that the Eagles must immediately replace Hurts would be thrilled that the Eagles are taking this approach.  Based on the practices, I suspect they are questioning the value of the QBs in this class.  Let’s take Willis.  Big complaint on Hurts is his ability to read.  Willis’ strong arm doesn’t make him better at reading.  His games against bigger schools didn’t convince me he was any better.  Raw and a project?  Why would that be acceptable for Willis in the first round and not Hurts?

Yeah, good take, and I agree.  I think in most years, you'd see a guy like Malik Willis going off the board sometime last 1st or 2nd round.  He's just too raw.  This guy sounds like Jalen Hurts redux.  Maybe with a stronger arm, but otherwise they are pretty close.  I'd pass on this whole draft class.  Jalen gets another year to show what he can do and if he isn't the guy then go all in on a QB next year.

Can’t just get backup QB’s using a 6th rounder. Gotta replace Minshew with a 1st round pick.

Why?  We know what Jalen is going to give us.  His floor is an average QB with outstanding running abilities.  It's pretty common for passers to make big leaps in their first couple of years.  If Jalen does that they he's the guy for years to come here.  If he cannot make that leap, then we know what we're getting.

You don't want Watson.  That guy has so many red flags.  I think he's untouchable.  You can't be desperate enough to want somebody in this draft class.   So, what does that leave you with?  You gonna give up a ton of high draft picks for a year or two of Wilson or Rodgers?  Trade for an average placeholder like Garopollo?

Stop.  I dislike Hurts as much as the next guy.  But come on.  Willis isn’t that good.

Willis is far more talented than Hurts.

Not so. You are drafting him to sit for a year and maybe two. He has a lot to learn but his arm talent is fabulous. Backup? Not even that. Call him a future.

I would have no problem using one of our firsts for him if they feel he can be coached up. I also think this is the perfect place for him. He won't be expected to play anytime soon. Hurts can finish out his contract and by then Willis should be ready. I would much rather use one of our #1s on him than spend two or three on some veteran, any veteran, who might be available.
