Good for Doug, I guess I'll root for the Jags on the AFC side now (unless they face us)

I can see Doug wanting to trade for a few of our veterans to help set the culture. A guy like Isaac makes sense for him if we are willing to move him.

Happy 4 year anniversary

Agreed. One of my first thoughts as well. Players I could see him being interested in: Cox, McLeod, Barnett, Dillard, Ward, Scott. A few of them will be on the open market, and they could use some vet leadership down there.

The Jags feels like the right job for Doug; QB in place, decent talent level and if Spielman goes there, someone who gets it. It's a world away what Philly is as a team and local market*.

Same. But I think Howie is enamored.

Even though he's short, he's listed at 6'1 but at senior bowl measured at barely 6'0 he does have bigger hands so that's at least good.

This QB class is weird, I'll be interested to see what Willis runs at the combine, he looks fast out running a bunch of low level college guys so is he a 4.4-4.5 guy or a 4-6-4.7 guy???

I don't think eagles are looking to move a starting guard who Jason Kelce also said would be a pro bowl center one day when Kelce is mulling retirement and Brooks just retired.

Doug won’t be adding any defensive vets from eagles , those vets will come from his DC old team

Russell Wilson is shorter. Watson is about the same size. Those are two guys being seriously discussed as targets for us not long ago.

By some.  Then again, my issues with them are not their height.  The primary issue is the cost associated with both of them... both the draft picks needed to spend to acquire them PLUS the salary on top of that.   The benefit of spending draft capital in the draft is the cost is low for 4-5 years.  The benefit of these guys is we know what they are when they come in, but part of what they are is a cap killer cost.   But, beyond that Wilson is too old to make him the centerpiece of a rebuild for my taste, and this is likely a process of at least 3 years, and we have to ask how effective he'll be in 3 years.  He relies a great deal on his legs, will they still be there the same as they are now when he's 35 or 36?   And Watson... well, we all know his issues (or alleged issues), not to mention that I don't believe he's worth the costs I've seen mentioned in these reports.  No one else seems to think so either, which is why he hasn't been dealt yet.

6'1" bothers me.  It matters when we are talking about field vision.  While it has been done before (Brees), there is still a reason QB's are so consistently 6'4"-6'5".

It looks like the 25th to 75th percentile is from just over 6'1" to about 6'4.5"  https://www.mockdraftable.com/positions?position=QB  I don't know that height plays a role in success. I generally think outliers are problematic.  It seems to me that some players' vision seems impaired due to their height while others are able to see the field really well.

Wilson is 5'11" which places him at the 2nd percentile for height.  https://www.mockdraftable.com/player/russell-wilson Watson is 6'2" which puts him at the 30th percentile.  https://www.mockdraftable.com/player/deshaun-watson He's the same height as Aaron Rodgers: https://www.mockdraftable.com/player/aaron-rodgers , Mahomes, Matthew Stafford and Donovan among others.

2/4/18-2/4/22 Happy Super Bowl Anniversary Day. Brady Retired with Super Bowl LII being his last Championship loss.  Congrats Doug on the new job.   Could see a quick turnaround for the Jags this season.

Mahomes came in at 6 ft 2

Willis is a well built 6ft 1 , he is put together

I don't have concerns about his size.   I am probably influenced by the only game I watched him play in this year and that was the game against Ole Miss.  He struggled with accuracy and decisions in that game.  I think he's a project as a pick.  He does have a good arm.

Oh sorry I forgot this is now Hurts 3rd rookie season.

Seriously Hurts Ceiling is pretty much where he is. He has not shown any improvement in reading defenses, and being able to make a read and throw the ball ON TIME. Lacks ability to throw with anticipation. Bails from clean pockets. As he gets older and more injured his running ability will decline, so I will argue this is as good as it gets. And he was only mediocre against the bottom part of the league. He was horrendous against anyone with a winning record.

Stop with the nonsensical wishcasting. I also think I could possibly marry Jessica Alba next year, I mean, she's a woman, and I am a man, so why cant it happen?

I get this perspective, but two counterpoints.  FIrst, it takes young QBs do take a few years to develop.  That's a hard transition to make from the college to the pro game.  I'd argue that you should wait another season before passing judgement.  I do agree on running QBs, that's the thing that really makes me the most nervous about Hurts long-term, but next year I still think he should be our guy.   It helps our salary cap situation tremendously and we can spend those other picks fixing the defense.  There's a road to the super bowl with a good defense, average passing game, and outstanding running game.

4th anniversary of the Philly special, too.  I don't care what anybody else says, that was the greatest call in the history of football.  Executed to perfection.

That's why college stats are meaningless. You have to see film of college QBs under pressure in tough games, most decent prospects can put up big numbers playing pitch and catch, even in the NFL, stats against weak defenses should be taken with a grain of salt. Hitting wide open targets from a clean pocket is very different than finding targets under pressure against good coverage.

Happy anniversary

We wont have an avg Passing game with Hurts. He lacks that ability.  When running QB's start winning the majority of SB's thats when I will believe in his style of play being what works. It hasn't happened yet.

The reason most athletic college QB's who did not run a pro offense in college and were basically (read option/RPO, one read and bail,) fail at the pro level is because in order to make that transition, they really need to study and learn the game in a way that is completely different to what they were used to. Most really athletic QB's in those college style offenses relied on their athletic ability- this is what they are used to, conditioned to do, and more importantly COACHED TO DO. Make one read, if it's not there, use your athleticism. This is why it is so hard for a guy like Hurts to learn to STAY in the pocket and read through his progressions, it goes against everything he has ever done in football. And it is the achilies heel for athletic QB's who ran College style offenses. They are used to everything being fairly easy reads, the pro game is so much different.

But thats not the only issue. he needs to learn to not only stay in the pocket and process what the defense is doing as a whole, (not just key on a LB, or Dlineman like read options) and do this in a split second and make the correct read and get the ball out on time. He has to have adequate arm strength in order to be able to make those "ZIP" throws on a rope when needed. Hurts has not shown he has these abilities, he has not improved in these areas.

Tom Brady is not that great of an athlete, but he mastered the pro grame from the pocket and stayed healthy enough and athletic enough to play for 22 years.

We can keep saying he just needs more time, while seasons come and go. If he needs that much more time, he should be sitting on the bench learning. I personally think it's a waste of time and a waste of young WR talent that also needs to develop, but wont get the chance while Hurts is the guy.

Yup, I don't really pay attention to the stats or the school when it comes to QB, I want to know if he can throw with velocity and accuracy, both those are going to carry over no matter the competition.

Throwing on time and pocket presence and footwork and reading a defense all those can be improved over time.

Running ability and agility quickness, those are nice attributes to have In a QB but if that QB also has a noodle arm or can't hit the right side of a barn who cares how fast he runs, which is where I think we are with hurts

At least with someone like Malik Willis he has the requisite arm strength to be successful, hurts does not
