I don't have concerns about his size.   I am probably influenced by the only game I watched him play in this year and that was the game against Ole Miss.  He struggled with accuracy and decisions in that game.  I think he's a project as a pick.  He does have a good arm.

He definitely needs time and coaching

We can keep saying he just needs more time, while seasons come and go. If he needs that much more time, he should be sitting on the bench learning. I personally think it's a waste of time and a waste of young WR talent that also needs to develop, but wont get the chance while Hurts is the guy.

The advantage of legs is you can win games while learning, which is exactly what Hurts did this year. Who would have bet on this team winning 9 games?

He's had one year starting, 4 schemes in 4 years, it's not unreasonable to see what he can do in 2022, then make a decision. Even if you were to draft Willis, you'd be stupid to start him as a rookie.

Hurts has adequate arm strength, he needs work on mechanics to be more consistent and accurate, especially moving to his left. Hopefully, if Omicron burns out, they'll have a normal offseason and be able to work with him more than last year. And it will help being in the same scheme two straight years when it comes to anticipation.

Very happy for Doug

Hopefully Doug can put a nice staff together , and he has found his voice. , he was too soft spoken . Can’t find a nicer guy though . Jags have the resources to get better fast .

Will be very interesting to see what staff he puts together.  I think he can have a lot of success with the Jags.  They have some very nice players on defense and of course you have Lawrence.  Will be interesting if he puts Etienne back at RB or views him more as a "weapon".

Will be fun to see what he does.

Depends on your definition of adequate arm strength.

I don't think he has the arm strength to make throws in tight windows or the arm strength to push the ball down field and threaten a defense vertically.

If one needs him to throw 3 yard passes to the flat and 15 yard dig routes with an occasional 30 yard touch pass then yeah his arm is adequate.

If one needs him to actually make plays with his arm and out throw coverage deep and fit balls into tight windows then his arm is not adequate.

His arm is adequate for a limited passing scheme.

We wont have an avg Passing game with Hurts. He lacks that ability.  When running QB's start winning the majority of SB's thats when I will believe in his style of play being what works. It hasn't happened yet.

The reason most athletic college QB's who did not run a pro offense in college and were basically (read option/RPO, one read and bail,) fail at the pro level is because in order to make that transition, they really need to study and learn the game in a way that is completely different to what they were used to. Most really athletic QB's in those college style offenses relied on their athletic ability- this is what they are used to, conditioned to do, and more importantly COACHED TO DO. Make one read, if it's not there, use your athleticism. This is why it is so hard for a guy like Hurts to learn to STAY in the pocket and read through his progressions, it goes against everything he has ever done in football. And it is the achilies heel for athletic QB's who ran College style offenses. They are used to everything being fairly easy reads, the pro game is so much different.

But thats not the only issue. he needs to learn to not only stay in the pocket and process what the defense is doing as a whole, (not just key on a LB, or Dlineman like read options) and do this in a split second and make the correct read and get the ball out on time. He has to have adequate arm strength in order to be able to make those "ZIP" throws on a rope when needed. Hurts has not shown he has these abilities, he has not improved in these areas.

Tom Brady is not that great of an athlete, but he mastered the pro grame from the pocket and stayed healthy enough and athletic enough to play for 22 years.

We can keep saying he just needs more time, while seasons come and go. If he needs that much more time, he should be sitting on the bench learning. I personally think it's a waste of time and a waste of young WR talent that also needs to develop, but wont get the chance while Hurts is the guy.

Saw this clip yesterday. Brady just shuffles around in the pocket, keeping a good platform and his eyes are ALWAYS down the field.

My thing with Hurts's development is that I did see him improve on his pocket presence. He started staying in the pocket more, he was looking for his receivers, he had less QB runs. However, all of that went out the window when the crap hit the fan against the bucs in the playoffs. He quickly reverted back to his habits of spinning around in the pocket, bailing early, and trying to play outside the structure of the offense. It will take a lot more coaching to get those habits out of him, but is it worth the time and effort to do so?

As we have seen time and time again with qbs, the running to win games vs bad teams actually inhibits their learning from the pocket

and hurts has an adequate arm only on his best day. He is a career backup

By some.  Then again, my issues with them are not their height.  The primary issue is the cost associated with both of them... both the draft picks needed to spend to acquire them PLUS the salary on top of that.   The benefit of spending draft capital in the draft is the cost is low for 4-5 years.  The benefit of these guys is we know what they are when they come in, but part of what they are is a cap killer cost.   But, beyond that Wilson is too old to make him the centerpiece of a rebuild for my taste, and this is likely a process of at least 3 years, and we have to ask how effective he'll be in 3 years.  He relies a great deal on his legs, will they still be there the same as they are now when he's 35 or 36?   And Watson... well, we all know his issues (or alleged issues), not to mention that I don't believe he's worth the costs I've seen mentioned in these reports.  No one else seems to think so either, which is why he hasn't been dealt yet.

No argument from me here. I've been clear that I don't want to go that route.

Wow. I know they have been a terrible franchise for years, and have not been around that long, but this is really bad.

OK, but isn't Malik Willis the same style QB that you are describing here?  It's just moving from one 'one read and run' QB to another?

Hurts still doesn't have Brady's arm strength or accuracy so No it's not worth it to me at least.

Brady was the absolute master of this.  He had this uncanny ability to sense pressure and to make just the smallest movements to avoid the sack.  Never took his eyes up from down the field.  Jalen is very much not the master of this.

Malik Willis has an NFL arm, hurts does not, but yes Malik Willis is a 1 read and run QB much like hurts, though I'm not sure he's as fast as hurts, definitely not as physical a runner

True, but I hope they look at Burrow's sack numbers and do something to reduce it. They've shown competence when it comes to roster building recently.

Yup, I assume they'll attempt to improve that O line.

Maybe they would have interest in Dillard?

Could be, Doug knows a little about Dillard and Dillard is far from awful. I don't know about Jags left tackle, one thing with Dillard is he seems to be left tackle only.

What a poorly run organization.
