Most of my in-laws are Cowboys fans because they jumped on the band wagon when the cowboys used to be good (not one of them is from Texas originally (some have moved there now).  They just so desperately want the Cowboys to be relevant again so they can trash talk.

Yup - most of Cowboy fans I’ve known for long time here in Philly started as front runners, but then just enjoyed the attention of being a troll. Rooting against the Eagles, rooting for the Cowboys - whatever.

Is he yawning there? Bit past bedtime for the old man?

Lightweight team that was made to look middleweight due to a last place schedule.  I would say he is dead on with that comment.   They believed it and did little to adjust.  Sitting players the last game of the season, pretty much supports that.

You’re wrong.  Again.

What exactly could they adjust with Hurts at the helm? Unlike some of you I don't think resting the players did anything, I agree that we were lightweights and I think we all knew that. I think some fans thought otherwise. Right now Hurts is the biggest issue on this team.

Seriously, what are we not seeing with Gannon that everybody else in the NFL is?

He made chicken salad out of chicken poop maybe?

I have no clue what you’re talking about in regards to other tweets he made and don’t care and I’m not defending his takes.  Your dander is up on the guy, so have at it.  But if you don’t think they were a lightweight team who benefited from an easy ass schedule, then there’s no talking sense to you.

Sirianni?  Yeah he had a tough task, especially considering he’s a lightweight HC as well.  But I would have liked to see us run the ball from under center a little bit more than once. Or maybe bench the incompetent QB.   But we know he doesn’t have the authority to make that call.

We wouldn’t have beaten Tampa anyway, though.  Because we were a lightweight team who didn’t belong in the playoffs.

This is an interesting thing to ponder about... let's disregard who's decision it is regarding benching Hurts.

Let's dig down a little on this idea...
IF the Eagles have indeed determined (and hopefully they have) that Hurts can't be the future at QB here, due to his lack of passing acumen...
IF it is predetermined that they cannot beat the Bucs in the playoffs...

Then... what is the best way to maximize his value?

I propose that having him finish the game is the best way to preserve any value he might have.  Benching him would likely hurt it.  So, was the decision to keep him in the game the best one for the long term future of the franchise?   And was it the right call?

So he doesn't run away from a clean pocket? I love him already

I linked a game from Youtube of him versus Kansas State.   You can watch it for yourself.

Agreed.  He was outmatched against top QBs, but handled mediocrity very well.   The question comes down to the reason why he was outmatched against top QBs... I believe it was primarily due to a deficiency in personnel.  And I believe he chose the death by a thousand cuts method of being beaten as the lesser of the two evils.  It gave the Eagles' O which was also not very good against those top teams, a chance to stay in the games, by limiting possessions.  It was a situation where 1 well-timed turnover could have swung victory to the Eagles favor.  But, to get that, you usually need a top notch pass rush... and for all the accolades from the likes of PFF about Josh Sweat... he just didn't get it done by himself.  Hargrave was a monster early in the year, when teams were still focusing on Cox... then when they adjusted to his diminished play, Hargrave disappeared as well.

Fix the back end of the secondary with better talent, add some better pass rush talent, and we might just see a very different scheme from Gannon next year.   I can be patient with that.  I expected the defense to be terrible, and they were only truly terrible in a handful of games.

You're preaching to the choir on Hurts.  And I have been singing that tune since the night he was drafted.  But sitting the players was another arrogant move from this FO/Coaching Staff.  A young team who struggled with bad starts in the previous month should have played in the last game of the season.  They need all the reps they could get.

I agree wholeheartedly, but...

what if the decision on Hurts' future was already made and putting him out there against the Cowboys would just be another opportunity to expose him for the fraud he is... maybe they were playing 4D chess.

Sorry but I just can't get behind spending a third round pick on a guy whose second contract would start at age 29.

Yeah, that Roger Staubach was a bum. Joined the Turds at 27. What could they have been thinking? And they spent a 10th round pick on him!

Just now, 4for4EaglesNest said:

Yeah, we'll see about that.  They don't have a plan, they didn't when  they drafted the guy and have been trying to justify it all along.  Just like some of the other bone-headed decisions they have made.

I wonder how long they'll try to justify the Siranni hiring?  3-4 seasons?

Couldn't agree more.

I think Strong  ends up 3rd or 4th QB drafted , heck of a arm , but a sitting target back there , I just watched some more of him , game cut ups not highlight reels  , he isn’t asked to read the D , predetermined throws , rarely do I see him going through progressions  , ball is snapped and he is staring his receiver down waiting on him  , kstate comes to mind

if I was forced to draft a QB , I take Corral  , followed by Pickett , Howell , Willis

That's BS and you and I know it.  Lowie and the coaches were feeling themselves and were just happy to make the playoffs.  Competition and growth be damned.

I do.  But, if they trade Hurts this offseason... I'll happily delude myself...   I just want a QB that actually has some kind of arm talent.  That's all I want.

Justify the Sirianni hiring? He’s already a top-10 coach in the league.

Baldy is right.  Real head scratcher how we completely abandoned our identity and reverted back to the ugly disjointed ineffective early season play calling.

Whoa... easy now.   I'm not down on Sirianni like 4for4, but let's slow down a little.  He's not a top 10 coach yet.   Maybe he'll get there one day, but not yet.

I like Sirianni but he’s definitely not top 10 yet.

Do yourself a favour, and go back into hiding.

Not impressed by the team defense this past season.  Then Gannon is getting consideration to be a HC with the Taxans.  Wonder what they see in him that was not obvious to us?  Don't mind his moving on and we get a new chance to right the ship.

His next big test is the honest evaluation of players in the first offseason meeting with Howie and Lurie.  There are about 6-7 players that are on everyone’s list that need to be gone.  Can Nick push hard enough to get the guys gone that Howie might want to keep?

His contract likely means that Fletcher Cox isn’t going anywhere, but he’s very close to the top of the list of guys that need to go.  Grossly overpaid, non-productive, bad attitude, lazy in games.  That last restructure was a horrible decision by Howie.

Can Nick push hard enough on Howie and Lurie to tell them Hurts can’t run his scheme and say he needs a new reset at QB, or is Nick going to play nice and say "I think with another year we’ll see more progress”?  We’ll have some answers very shortly

Upon further review, I’ve got him clearly behind Belichick, McDermott, Tomlin, Vrabel, Reid, Harbaugh, McVay, and Payton.

IMO, he’s in the group with Arians, Shanahan, Reich, and Rivera.

maybe they call those plays because it's what Hurts can complete.  It requires him to take a minimum drop and make one decision.  Doesn't give Hurts the option to bail out of the pocket.  They are play calls to make it easy for Hurts.

The very first play.....why does he have to squat down so low? What is that?

Cox isn't going anywhere next year.  He's unmovable.    But, the bolded... so many on that list.   Howie got stupid post-Super Bowl with the extensions he was giving out... and we're still paying for them.

No we werent lightweights, we were middle weights.   This guy who calls himself HonestNFL but thinks Hurts is a starter is who has his "dander up" ... probably because hes jealous of the young Eagles staff having some first year success

And hey you're still wrong about Sirianni, whats new.  Hes in over his head because he cants bench the QB in a playoff game that even you say we werent winning anyway.

Oh, and he didnt run it from under center more in the 10 plays we ran before we were down 17-0
