Flores had his chance. If the rumors are true he brought a bad culture to the team.

Why not give McCown his chance? Because no minority coaches have been hired means teams need to hire one to make one race happy is also considered racist. Racist goes both ways. Last I checked you hire the person you feel is the best person for the job. You shouldnt be persuaded by others and what they want.

We have more pressing needs than QB this year. Our O line has some aging players and can use an upgrade anyway.
And our defense needs to be shored up as well.

Kenyon Green or Tyler Linderbaum are both highly rated versatile OLs.

On the defense I'd go for Ahmad Gardner or Jaquan Brisker since Hamilton will probably be gone. I think both are better picks than Stingley.
And I'd grab sack master David Ojabo since Hutchinson will be long gone. Karlaftis would be my second choice.

And we can grab a QB in the second round. Pickett won't be around but there are at least 6 others worth a gamble.
And we should grab one because next year's batch doesn't look as good as this year's top 10. If Hurts works out,
we'd have a QB to trade.

 

There's no argument that we have lots of holes to fill. They don't all have to be 1st rounders. I don't think anyone would regard any Quarterback in this class as a day one starter. Unless Lowie thinks a Quarterback coming out next year is a no-questions day 1 starter, it would seem wise to draft the best guy you can this year so he has a year to develop - or not. The Quarterback factory is running.

What gives you optimism about Gannon? Not trying to be argumentative -- honestly would like to find a way to feel good about him coming back. I thought his defense was the least imaginative, least player-tailored and most passive unit I've seen in the last 20 years of Eagles defenses.

Why would we want the front office to get players to fit such a boring scheme that Gannon might not even be around to coach -- although I guess one more season like last season's and maybe the HC-interest starts to wane 😀

Seriously, the Eagles faced a slate of QBs that couldn't possibly be worse (it would be fair to say it may have been the worst slate of QBs a defense has EVER faced because the COVID-list stuff is unprecedented in league history and put guys on the field who would never ordinarily get in games) and still finished around 20th (EDIT: 25th!) in defensive DVOA.

Am I crazy? Even in this era of offense-friendly rules, this is a bottom third defense, right? What's the actual case for Gannon?

Laughable how McCown gets to skip every step of the way. He shouldn‘t even be interviewed for HC.

And if anyone thinks he‘d get that chance if he was black he‘s a damn fool.

This is not about ‚it should be a black coach‘. This is about McCown having zero coaching experience and still getting every opportunity - showing very clearly what remains injust and biased.

Jim Schwartz led this Eagles defense with many of the same players to a 15th overall DVOA finish against a slate of better QBs and getting way less help from a terrible offense...

I get that Gannon is impressive in press conferences and maybe he'll make a great CEO-type head coach one day but what is everyone else seeing that I'm not?

Schwartz was excellent and I miss him.

Yes, he played the secondary too far out. But he had a good idea how to shut down opponents and adjust his plans.

Now we got a way less experienced coach that plays his secondary even further out that looks completely overwhelmed most of the time.
