What sucks about this sham of a rule is that Duce Staley will more than likely be a head coach sooner than later and the Lions will get the compensation.  They lost Brandon Brown to the NYG as an Assistant GM...His next move is GM, NYG will get the picks.

4 3rd round picks.

Brandon Brown and that chick both had GM interviews with MIN.  They spit the bed and that other non-white guy got it instead

Good. I don't wanna read all off-season how unjust a McCown hire would be. I think folks here are underestimating how much of a shitshow that would be.

Very much doubt that

I dunno, seemed like they were really pumping him up at the Senior Bowl again.  I don't think he's shown much but I'm just a fan.  He has a ton of support from guys around the league.

Smith would be a far better choice than the two unqualified remaining candidates.  He probably didn’t have interest until he saw the finalists

Obviously the Texans are reacting to circumstances and trying to save face, but at least Lovie Smith has legitimate HC credentials if they are going to say no to Flores.

If they hire Lovie, I bet McCown would be the OC so they can groom him.

One candidate is a previous NFL head coach coming off consecutive winning seasons. He's black.

One is a former NFL player with ZERO NFL coaching experience. He's white.

They seem intent on hiring the white dude with no experience.

Sure, I think even a socially progressive NFL owner would question if they could trust Flores. But regardless of that, if you can't see how hiring McCown over Flores looks bad in today's climate, I don't know what to tell you.

To even pit these 2 against each other publicly as your final 2 candidates is mismanagement in itself. The Texans organization is shockingly tone deaf with this stuff, my god.

Flores went out of his way to try to ruin the lives of everyone in the NFL who ever tried to help him.

At this point, I wouldn’t trust him to watch a goldfish. I assume they’re just enjoying wasting his time.

I completely agree the optics of this one, being the Texans, is head scratching, though.

Smarter idea for the Texans would be to retain Pep Hamilton as OC, and then bring in McCown as the QB coach so he can be groomed under Hamilton while he's learning how to coach in the league. Lovie Smith has a background in defense, so wouldn't be able to help with grooming McCown to be an OC.

Maybe the Texans think they get two third round picks for hiring Lovie…

This would make the most sense of anything they've done in quite a while.

Interesting.

Reminder: Lovie went 8-24 at his last NFL HC stop.

'Tis the NFL coaching carousel.  The annual Texas two-step.  Just enjoy the show.

He might be well liked but he hasn’t had any OC or HC interviews besides internally with the Eagles. Even when he left here all he did was go completely lateral with the RB/AHC role. Pretty sure he coached at the senior bowl before this week too. He gets talked about here way more than around the league.

Yo but did you see his deadlift?!? Work ethiczzz

Sad that it's pretty much a thing where it's more important to pimp yourself via social media and make yourself look good than to perform on the field and actually be good.

Better QBs? Go look at who we faced last year.

?? Yes, that's what I'm saying exactly. Gannon's defense with most of the same players was 10 DVOA spots worse despite enjoying playing a series of quarterbacks who would never see the field if not for the historic anomaly of a pandemic. What has Gannon done that gives you confidence he can conduct an above-average Eagles defense?

Lovie deserved another job. He won a lot of games with the Bears.

You’re completely dismissing the fact it was his first season, though. He did a better job than McDermott and Todd Bowles in their first years and they’re two of the league’s best.

That being said, I hate his defensive philosophy and wish he was gone.

That was a long time ago.   And a HC a team ago.
