Harden is a head case , sixers traded one for another

Hopefully Embiid signed off on the trade because he will probably see the ball alot less.

That can be good, though.   On the trips down that Harden gets the ball, Embiid can rest.  On the flip side... on the trips down that Embiid gets it, Harden can rest.   Both can create their own shot.

I mean I think Doug knows what he is doing but Taylor as an OC and McCoy as the QB coach doesn't seem great

I don't. His staff is constantly underwhelming after his first year here. How long would have Groh and Walch stuck around if it weren't for Lowie intervening?

This could potentially go down as the worst day in the career of Daryl Morey”

That seems like not much to give up to get Harden.

The guy they'll miss is Drummond. He gave them high quality minutes as backup center and filled in admirably when Embiid was rested. Curry will not be missed because they're getting a lot more scoring with Harden and he is marginally better than Curry as a defender. It's huge that they kept their young guards. The only way this trade bites them in the ass is if they can't keep him after this season. I don't think the draft picks amount to much. The first (2022 or 2023) will not be close to a lottery pick and the second (2027 or 2028) is pick-protected.

I agree with the below

Philly gave up depth, filled all the holes of the Nets roster while doing so. No backup bigs in Philly. Lost their best floor spacer. gave up two future picks that will lead to another Nets move. If the Harden Embiid duo doesn’t work perfectly it’s terrible hours in Philly

The second of the first round picks isn't until 2027.  So, that's a throw away pick from the plan to build around Embiid while he's in his prime.  That one might hurt later, but the window is likely closed by then.

Drummond is the biggest loss in the deal.  Love a guy like him who knows his role and plays it to a "T".  That backup center spot with Drummond was way better than with Howard, but you have to give something to get something.  Frankly, they didn't give up much at all.  They kept the young guys, replaced one aging scorer with another aging scorer who is better.  I like Curry, but replacing him with Harden is an upgrade.  And they remove the 3 ring circus and have a shot at competing for the #1 seed this year in the East, and then... anything is possible.   Not a slam dunk trade, but certainly not a bad one.  They took a shot.  Just hope that Harden and Embiid can mesh.  It also allows them to move Maxey to the bench to increase the scoring there and for him to be an energy guy.   It will likely take a couple weeks for them to figure it all out though.

Really sorry to lose Drummond.

Me neither.  He seemed to be a nice fit.  Losing Curry isn’t great either but they had to unload some salaries regardless, either now or in the off-season to make room for Harden’s (likely) upcoming max contract.

Nope, he has a base salary of 19 million.

Plus a roster bonus of $5 million.  That’s $24 million this year and $27 million next year.  Seems like that should be a Goff type deal for the Eagles.  We get Wilson in return for Hurts and two first round draft choices. :D

Seriously, as the Eagles are $21 million under the cap, such would require more Howie kicking the can down the road.  Just seems stupid for a 33 year old QB on a team with no player on defense under thirty that should be starting.

Sure,  mortgaging the future for today’s team would make so much sense. (Sarcasm)

I never wanted James Harden.  I hate Ben Simmons.  Happy he's gone, happier Maxey and Tyrese are still here.

I CAN NOT wait to hear the reception Simmons gets his first and every game back at WFC.  He got upset getting booed as a Sixer...he has no idea what he has coming.

They weren’t winning anything with that lineup, and they kept Maxey.
The last time they made a big move was for Jimmy Butler and that worked until he figured out Ben Simmons was useless on offense.
Drafting B2B loonies as number 1 picks ruined the Sixers tank,  plus some idiot was infatuated with dudes over 6’10” and they ended up with Okafor with the 3rd pick the year before.

I agree they had to try something , not quite sure this was the best option , Harden will want out of Philly , sooner rather than later

Watch Ben finally learn how to shoot .

Of course the blog would be complaining about the Harden trade.

He already opted in for 2022-23 season

Well for 2 seasons it was OK. As much as we ****ed about the offense, I do think a big part of the problem was Wentz and the lack of talent drafted for him.  I mean he had decent receivers for really parts of 2 seasons.  Wentz did not return to the same level of play and was stubborn about play calling.

Harden probably will, I’m starting to think he was a problem in OKC more than Westbrook was.
That’s the worst part about Ben, he’s super talented and just doesn’t care, he acts like LA is where he always wanted to be but could you imagine him in there while Kobe was still alive?   Kobe would of embarrassed him daily, in the media and to his face. It’s one thing to miss foul shots, but to pass up on dunks?

Shhhh... don't encourage him.

Not a bad spot to go in terms of wr talent. They just need a oline to hold up and a QB that can make the throws
