Mariota is an interesting, low risk bridge option. He deserves one more shot.

Pick one, Trade one back into next year. Picking up additional pick this year... still leaves a 1st to do something with. Plenty of options. I would rather we just play Minshew, but they clearly dont want to or they would have.

Hurts need another year because he hasn't gotten a fair shake and we don't know what he's going to turn into. He has 30 appearances at the NFL level and 19 starts.

Meanwhile Minshew "has shown he's not a capable starter" despite 27 appearances and 22 starts. Keep in mind that the Jags have been a hot mess for years.

So of course the question has to be asked, aside from the obvious answer that we all know, why are they held to different standards?

 A pass for being the only coach in Eagles history for winning the Super Bowl?   He’s far from perfect but the narrative that Reich is some kind of genius is dead wrong.  He can’t beat the Jaguars when it matters and he tied his career to Wentz, which was stupid. If anything, the best coach on that team is still on the Eagles and that’s Stoutland. It was his running game that the Eagles used to get to, and win the Super Bowl.

I think it was reported that SF asked PIT for either a 2nd round pick for Jimmy G, or a 3rd round pick + player.   Essentially, it would be a 3rd + Hurts if they were interested in acquiring Hurts to back up Lance -- and I'm not trolling when I keep saying this; that would be the Niners only interest in the trade, and they may view Hurts' skills as a poor-man's version of what they see in Lance.
