Jameson Williams I would be happy with.

If he is there and we reach for Karlaftis or Linderbaum….I won't be happy.

Karlaftis wouldnt be a reach

Yup

almost have to come out of rd1 with an edge and a corner plus something else. Would love a safety but only Hill seems to fit in our range.

perfect third imho would be lloyd.

Yeah but is that the plan? Or did it happen because our run D started the year of horribly? I think moving a safety down was a fix for the run D. And fit our safeties diminishing skillets better.

This offseason is an opportunity to bring in the kind of personnel Gannon actually wants to make his D work.

Not sure that was the plan.  Both Zimmer and Eberflus moved from two high safeties to one.  I still believe the ideal D is probably a modified Cover 1.  But to run it well, there have to be interchangeable Ss and LBs that can cover.  I believe Eagles need LBs that can cover.  I hope that Howie reevaluates LBs value.   He also needs edge rushers that can play the run but also tighten the pocket and get to the QB.

I suspect we will always see some modifications under Nick that tailor to players’ strengths but that we will get a bit more of a taste as to the preferences this year, especially on D.

This would be a perfect draft for the team to grab two corners in the first, with the idea of moving Maddox to safety.

Epps and Maddox would be a pretty good duo, and drafting two corners early would double the team's chances of finding a really good one. If you hit on both guys, you solve the corner problem for the next five years and can move on from Slay.

It seems like a waste to take a LB in the first when there are a ton of guys available later on (Andersen, Chenal, Asamoah, Clark), and this corner class is really deep. And drafting two corners doesn't mean you can't draft a safety in the second or third, as it's not like Marcus Epps coming off the bench would be a travesty.

Maddox at safety intrigues me. He played well in the slot this season and, I think they like him there.

Having said that, the best play of his career was when he was at safety, IMO. I wanted him to stay there. Seems he was flying around the ball consistently.

Except Howie.  Strong DL draft, he grabs Dillard.  Strong RB draft, he waits and grabs Pumphrey. Depth in a draft is a nightmare with Howie because he waits too long to pull the trigger.  Of course, he has so depleted talent on this team, just about any position is in play.

You’re misusing the word "reach.”

Just because you don’t like a guy projected to go in the spot doesn’t make it a reach.

He has become a tremendously easy target because fans LOVE negative reporting and the media loves to pile it on.  Or course there is likely SOME fire where there is smoke but I wouldn't mind hearing from Wentz rather than all of these sources.  That story from some source, sounds like opinion stated as fact.

I went to the Colts equivalent of BGN - stampede blue - and clicked around there a bit. It seems that none of the local media are backing the "Wentz is done here" story. I would not be in the least surprised if he is given an ultimatum that he needs to play better/do fewer stupid things this coming season if he wishes to be there a 3rd season. As I recall cutting him after next season is less painful than it would be this coming season.

Howie didn’t wait too long at RB; he just made a piss poor pick with Pumphrey.  He could have drafted Jamaal Williams, Marlon Mack, Aaron Jones, Chris Carson, Wayne Gallman, etc., etc.

Linderbaum isn’t a reach where we pick.  Perhaps not a priority, but not a reach.

Literally anybody besides Pumphrey.

It was one game (albeit a bad one) against a more talented team. It happens to every good QB every year.

But Hurts isn't  that good and it happened against bad teams as well.

You mean the Indy sports media isn’t the piranha tank waiting for a drop of blood like the Philly media is?  Shocking.

I think if the Colts could do a trade for a 2nd or 3rd round pick they might, but I don’t think there’s a trade market for Wentz.  There are teams waiting to see if the Colts are dumb enough to release him — then they’ll sign him for less money than he’s making now.  I believe PIT, WAS, or NO would be in that market.

I do not want to draft a WR in the first, again.

Having said that if WR is clearly the best player left on the board, I'd rather them take him than reach for another position.

BPA, within reason.

I was watching video of the WR in the first round talk yesterday, and I come away ranking them:

Jameson Williams — speed is reminiscent of D-Jax in the draft.  Won’t be all the way back until 2023, though

Treylon Burks — great mix of size and speed, although not as fluid as I’d hoped

Chris Olave — good all-around WR but not special in any way

Garrett Wilson — definitely below the top 3; not as fast, and his routes don’t look crisp

Drake London — wouldn’t even want him in the 3rd round.  Mr. OPI

Because he can diagnose a play/defense.

He can?  "He can't read!" Remember that?

Oh wait, many people can do that.

Must be something else.

Pumphrey was the key to it all.

The Lions did that 20 years ago. The game has changed since then.

As of now, the Eagles have 3 1st round picks. The 3 most important positions, IMO, in today’s game, are QB, WR, and DL. The Eagles need to improve at all of them. They need a better starting WR, maybe 2. So if the BPA is a WR at one of their picks, they’d be dumb not to pull the trigger.

Yikes. That's a really bad take calling WR one of the 3 most important positions.

I think the teams silence is telling. Irsay has no problem popping off outside his private jet or at 1:30 in the morning on twitter. If Wentz was for sure coming back I think someone on the Colts would squash all the talk and support him publicly.

Neither Karlaftis or Linderbaum are reaches in the mid-teens.

Week 12 vs the NYG who finished 4-13 and this game was their last W.

Hurts stat line:

14 for 31, 45.2% comp

129 yards, 4.2 YPA

0 TDs, 3 INTs

17.1 QBR, 17.5 rating

But hey, he ran the ball 8 times for 77, 9.6 YPC so it's all good, right?

Hmmm, if my math is correct that's more than 1 game that he sucked hard and this time it was vs a shite team and not a good team.

FFS, the lengths some of you go to to defend him for some reason is utterly baffling.

1 hour ago, ManuManu said:

I don’t know. My guess is he wants to spin the safeties to give QBs a different look at the snap. Doesn’t mean every play, but enough that I think they want two FS types who can also hold up in the box.

maybe. but you have to make sure you dont end up with a SS type who occasionally held up in coverage. Im afraid thats what someone like Cine, and Cook are.

Pumphrey was the key to it all.

Unfortunately, games continued to be played after SB 52 and the Eagles window closing quickly had a lot to do with not restocking talent through that draft.  If Barnett goes as he should the entire 2017 class is gone 5 years later.  2018 has been excellent, 2019 is likely all gone by 2023 if Sanders isn’t extended, 2020 looks dependent on Driscoll and Watkins right now.

2021 has had some really good early returns.  Hopefully the organization can do a repeat this April
