4th round pick, but did not play much and is available.  What gives?  Injury, character, or mis-fit in the Bengals defense?

I did like him a bit coming out. Really good size, strength, seems to have some explosiveness and nastiness to his game. I don't see any reason not to take a shot here.

Bit of a slug in speed and quickness.  Howie isn’t the only one who has mediocre 4th round picks that don’t make it.  Just signed to a futures deal.  Low cost, non cap eating tryout, basically.

I think he missed a full season with a torn pec in 2020

For the Birds as well..................

Daniel Jeremiah on the Birds draft needs and fits:

Quote

The Eagles have drafted wide receivers in consecutive first rounds. The early returns suggest they hit on one (DeVonta Smith) and missed on the other (Jalen Reagor). With three first-round selections in the 2022 draft, Jeremiah expects two of those picks to be used on shoring up the trenches. But he won’t rule out Philadelphia taking another wideout early, as well.

"I would love Garrett Wilson (of Ohio State) in there. I think he’s the best receiver in the draft, in my opinion. He can do everything. He is a complete wide receiver. … From just a pure size, skill set standpoint, you’d say Drake London (of USC) would be the power forward they don’t necessarily have there opposite of DeVonta. I think he’s exceptional.”

Two edge rushers Jeremiah likes for the Eagles in the teens: Purdue's George Karlaftis and Michigan's David Ojabo. Minnesota's Boye Mafe is another option should the Eagles trade down, or perhaps Oklahoma's Nik Bonitto in the second round.

sounds like he is throwing darts with his eyes closer, or just trying to cover all bases. He basically gives you 1 of every type of player. 1 fast and quick WR. One "PF" type of WR. One strong DE. One slim pass rushing DE. One big athletic freak DE. Or one edge who is more like a LB. He covers absolutely everything, but appears very clueless.

Jeremiah comes up with a lot of dopey takes.  He’s sharper than Bucky Brooks so he has that going for him on The Path To The Draft shows, but on the Draft Night telecasts he’s nowhere near as in tune as Mayock used to be for team needs, picks, etc.

Double Aught "Butterfingers” Kenny Burrough passed. Actually, an amazing WR but his knack for dropping balls on occasion earned him that nickname from Oilers’ fans.

Tyrone on 97.5 trying to say that the excitement level for Harden right now in the city has passed TO in his first year with the Eagles.  That is such an absurd statement.

Yeah, you can get pretty crazy on there. Lol

Yeah you can get away with a lot. Still I think a small trade up from 15 for Gardner or Hamilton then a trade down from 16 to the end of the first/beginning of the second round to accumulate more 2/3rd round picks or get a 2023 1st would be my ideal scenario. DB/EDGE/DT in the first, although obviously Gardner/Walker/Wyatt is a pipe dream.

I mention Chenal before , more I watch the more I like , I think he can play in different schemes .

Asomoah is another stud imo , plays extremely fast and under control .

a few other favorites , at backer position McClain , Tindall  , Jackson and Rodriguez

He has Wilson as his number 1 WR. I agree there. I'm still skeptical on London. I just think he's going to be hurt quite a bit with that stature...  Hate George. Hate is strong, but I seriously dislike that pick. That would be one of my nightmare scenarios so chances are very good we take him. I'm hoping someone else grabs him so there's no worry.

Two years of injuries,

I think at his size at 6'5" 315 he's more a fit in a 34 as a DE who can slide down to DT in a 4 man front which I think is the kind of positional versatile guys Gannon is looking for.

From what I understand he's not much of a pass rusher but Is a competent run defender.

Missing on a 4th round pick is expected.  Whiffing on all first round picks after pick 13?  That's a different story.

Are you sure he's an Aussie, I mean even your punters have more character than that!

Ben Simmons is an outlier that's for sure, he's not representative of Australian sporting culture in any way whatsoever. Anyway, he's not the 6ers problem anymore, happy days!!

Watching the defensive ends and I’m always enamored with the twitchy, explosive athletes. I’m curious how much we will factor in scheme vs scheme diverse. We ask our defensive ends to line up all over — 5 tech, 9, 4i.

IMO, Sweat was wasted as a 4i, but after Graham got hurt he was our best option along with Williams, who improved as the season went along. With Barnett walking, I think Sweat could thrive as an outside rusher. I know Cosell said he’d be a double digit sack guy if allowed to be a wide 9 rusher.

That leaves Williams/Graham playing the 4i snaps (I hope), and we know he’s not long for the league anymore. If we want to unlock Sweat, that means we need a guy who can play all over, including 4i. I think Karlaftis is a terrific fit in that regard. He plays with power, and he can split defenders by getting skinny. Walker is another great fit for that, although I assume he’s gone by pick 15. Johnson can probably do it too. Perhaps it’s an easy fix and Graham/Williams/Sweat all soak up snaps in that alignment.

If we decide Sweat is fine in the same role he played last year then we need a guy capable of threatening on the edge. That’s where Ojabo and Mafe figure in. We let our rushers stand up a bit, and Ojabo is great at it.

The below photo shows what I mean. Barnett is on the weak side (let’s pretend there is a TE on the opposite side where Avery is lined up at Sam), standing up to rush. We’ve got Williams at the 4i next to Avery on the edge (again, let’s pretend there is a TE on his side). Imagine an explosive rusher rusher like Ojabo standing up in Barnett’s place, or Sweat. Or, instead of Williams at the 4i, maybe he is in place of Cox and Karlaftis is the 4i, trying to split the G/T.

It’ll be interesting to see it play out.

I don't like Sweat playing anything but EDGE. 4i is a no. That was square peg in round hole stuff. Gannon said as much.

We need both in the draft still IMO. Elite edge talents are harder to find, so I'd put more emphasis on that. We need 4i too though. If a guy excels at both, great. Walker could be that guy. Either way, we need two guys with Graham likely finished after 2022 and Barnett (thankfully) done here.

I agree. I want to see two EDGE guys and a DT.

Walker and Hall are the guys who call play any DE spot.

Paschall can too, but doesnt give you the sacks.  He's a playmaker though against the run.

You can get edge rushers later in the draft, if you're willing to be patient with an undersized athlete and give him time to fill out.

Same with run stoppers, but they are less likely to develop into complete players, you got or you don't.
