You can get edge rushers later in the draft, if you're willing to be patient with an undersized athlete and give him time to fill out.

Same with run stoppers, but they are less likely to develop into complete players, you got or you don't.

Of the top 20 in sack rate, 12 are from the first round and 5 are in the second. Stop

He didn’t say "good” edge rushers

If we lose Weidl it's not going to be good at all. Who the hell is left that we even trust to build the draft board and have influence on who to take?

No worries, Howie is still here.

Someone must read the boards

First, I'm more interested in overall pressures than sacks, it's pressure that screws up a passer.

Second, you rotate four guys at DE, not everyone in your lineup is going to be a star (for one thing, you couldn't pay them).

One of the keys to roster building is stashing athletes with good work ethics at the back of the roster or on the PS, and giving them a year or two to develop - you only get so many 1st and 2nd day picks - most of your players, and a number of your starters, are going to be 3rd day, UDFA, SFA guys.

We have 3 first round picks. I think it's okay to talk about and want an elite edge player in this draft....

He won't even give the ol' How dog a fist bump after a 3rd round pick

You still think we’re going to use all of those in this draft? Ha

Definitely wouldn't be surprised if we don't. My point is that it doesn't make sense to bring up late round projects as the best way to improve at DE/edge when we have more than enough ammo in this draft to get some really good players in the first couple rounds.

Oh wow, we'll have 4 top picks (3 1st and a 2nd), and they'll all be instant stars.

In reality, if you don't do more than those picks you're not going to go far.

Eagles better add depth with those 3rd to 5th rd picks, hit on a couple UDFAs and find a couple SFAs and sign some second tier FAs.

So you bring in a 1st rd DE, Graham, Sweat, 1st rd, who's your 4th and 5th DE (because injuries never happen)?

Point is a good draft is a mixture of guys who'll contribute by the second half of their rookie seasons (few start from game 1), and guys who'll be role players while they learn on the job.

That's right... let's make sure we have 3rd and 4th DEs before we have our starters...

I’m convinced now more than ever PFF was created to make troll takes and see how far they can get away with it.

What a crazy day in college basketball. Top 6 teams in the country all lost. And 7 of the top 10

Yes, we need to add better and more quality depth than what we have now because our GM has failed to do that since his lightning in a bottle Midas Touch 2017 off-season.  He instead has kicked the can down the road and rewarded aging players entering their downturn years with big contracts and has drafted like sheet in the early rounds.  This is what happens when you draft a backup QB a round too early because it's a knee jerk reaction to years before letting the QB you really wanted get picked by another team because you'd thought he'd be there a round later and be better value than going and getting your guy when you had the chance.  And it ended up costing you the chance to add a player (Chinn) who would have produced his first season at a position we needed production.

So yes, we need not only better and YOUNGER quality starters, but we need better quality depth players as well.  Let's hope that our scouts, coaches, and GM will actually talk with each other and select players who FIT whatever system we're running on O and D for a change.  Let's hope Howie keeps it simple and doesn't try to prove to the rest of the NFL that he's the smartest guy in the room (spoiler alert, he's not).

Not with Howie being the guy to pull the trigger, he's proven he can't find elite anything in the teens, or even average for that matter.  So, afan is being proactive and undercutting the hope early.

Point is, if thats all you get from the draft, its a pretty poor draft, not a good one.  Each draft comes with first and second round picks.  Good drafts land players in those rounds too.

But we know what to expect from those rounds with Howie.  Second half of Round 1 lands a bust, second round you might have a chance of landing either a contributor or landing JJAW 2.0.

Btw, no one is arguing against getting depth in the later rounds.  Nice strawman.  They are just hoping for a little more than adding depth only pieces.  And since they have 4 picks in the first two rounds, why not discuss who we'd like to see drafted there?   Every year the Eagles have more picks in Rounds 3-7 than 1 &2.  This year they have a lot at the top of the draft, its ok to discuss those selections.
