Athletic testing is a good predictor of performance.

It can be... I would lean more on the tape. You just have to know what you're looking at.

For WRs, the most difficult part of that evaluation is not knowing how a player will adjust to running routes and beating press man in the NFL. Very few do it well in college. Maybe a couple each draft class. The rest have to learn in the league. Predicting who will learn that skill is hard. It's a difficult skill to teach and develop. You either pick it up well or you don't. 40 times only get you so far with that.

Carson Strong has looked horrible in both the senior bowl and now in the combine with accuracy.

Agreed. Not impressed. I’ve been a Ridder guy all along and he’s looked good at the Sr Bowl and tonight.

if Howie drafts a LB in the 1st rd, Gio gets all the credit

Our offense still has spacing problems with a technician, but non-burner in Devonta Smith, and underneath TE in Goedert, and no one else.  Watkins is fast, but unproven...and Reagor is a goner.

We need someone who can get deep and burn people in space.

29 bench reps doesn't mean he didn't have a neck injury.

Hightower has that speed and has shown he can create separation problem is he can't catch or play through contact.

Not sure Watkins is unproven, he had a pretty good year, he should've had a couple really big games but noodle arm hurts couldn't get him the ball🤷‍♂️

Wilson looked awkward doing gauntlet drill . Not natural at all

Im not changing my thought process Ive had for a few months now. Pickett is Howie's guy. Hes been in love with him since mid season.

Ridder ran a 4.49

R1 Defense
R2 Ridder
R3 Pierce

Didn't think he was that fast.

Hightower can get deep when he gets his stride going, but he's still a 4.4 guy with the 4.4 being his only positive asset...in an era where the one-dimensional deep threats are 4.2 guys.

That's why I call Watkins unproven.  He does get open, he does (intermittently) make a defense look like they are standing still.  But he concretely did very, very, very little in 2021.  I blame most of that on Hurts, but that's why Watkins is unproven until he actually does it.

Vernon Davis proves that wrong.

Meaning?

I hope not.

I think he has a lot of potential…needs a year with the clipboard.

Willis in 1st, or Ridder in the 2nd.

I've tried liking Strong, but he is very unimpressive.

Been seeing more media guys say Willis won’t go past 20. Seen a mock draft already with him going to Detroit at 2. He’s probably the biggest wildcard of this draft & will shake up how the draft plays out the most

He went to 2 pro-bowls and had a 15 year career with almost 600 receptions and a career WR-like 13.0 ypc.   Sure, there are less athletic TEs over the history of the game who were better.  But I'd say his athleticism translated.

Davis had one of the best combines in history but was a below avg player in the NFL. So Athletic testing did nothing for his performance in the next level.

Yup, looked good at senior bowl.

I like his height and eagles have a pretty good record drafting bearcats.

You think that is good for a 15 year career? Esp with all the hype he had coming out of the combine as a top 5 pick?

I honestly cant tell if your just joking or not.

I liked what I saw if his college tape, he has a live arm, but his senior bowl and combine performances have been pretty underwhelming.

Watching the all 22 film of the playoff game, Watkins with a real QB would have had 250 yards and 4 TDs

He's clearly winning deep and was only credited with 1 drop all year. He made some great catches and bailed out Hurts many times

I don't think he's a WR2, but I think he's a legitimate WR and worthy of playing time and looks

Pick a better example...15 years in the league is 15 years in the league.

Willis is struggling. Too high ball coming out hot.

Vernon Davis is a bad example for that argument. The poster boy for the combine warrior argument is Vernon Gholston.

Been in on him all year. Think he’s a solid choice at 30-60.

Strongs deep ball to Olave was perfect. Then of course Watson drops his best deep ball.

There are a ton of below avg players that last 10+ years in the NFL.

Point is his top athletic results in the combine did not make him a star in the NFL. So the testing has nothing to do with how well they will perform. If so Davis would have been one of the greatest TEs ever. He wouldnt even make the top 50 list of TEs.
