Either way as much as I like Hamilton as a project I can't see Howie taking a safety in the first. TIWIW Tony Pauline was on cbs radio earlier this morning and said he believes Hamilton isnt going to be a safety and becomes a linebacker and doesn’t see him going in the top 10 of the first round. He had also heard from a lot of teams at the combine that they believe he is also destined to move to LB.

Don't take a RB, don't take a WR who isn't very fast/great at separating, don't take any interior OL, no DL unless they're extremely athletic, no LBs, no S unless they're freaks. Well, you do have to take a player. There are only so many great first round prospects. LIES!

Well, you do have to take a player. There are only so many great first round prospects. Plus, it's a bit of a narrow POV to limit players in these ways, specifically Hamilton. You can have other impacts on the game. Being able to guard elite TEs, being a force in the running game (I bet a lot of these great athletes at S can't tackle worth a $hit). We all want great athletes, but they don't grow on trees and are unrealistic after the top 15-20. We happen to be right on that edge. Paging Howard Roseman. Part of this is driven by economics. For example, the number 4 pick in the draft last year, Kyle Pitts, gets $33 million over four years. We signed Goedert to a contract that is essentially $40 million over 4 years. So the juice really isn't worth the squeeze, no matter how good Pitts turns out to be. Meanwhile, the fifth pick was Chase, who gets $30 million over 4 years. That is a bargain compared to what it would cost to sign a top receiver in free agency. Even if you think Pitts will be a better player, there is no rational explanation for drafting a TE in the top 10, or IOL, or a running back. Just go sign a guy and take a chance on a position that has more of an economic benefit.

Frankly i could see teams telling him that to try and see if they could get him to fall a little bit. But his belief was he ultimately would be used more as a linebacker as time went on. Pauline was around 740am here so 940am eastern time on cbs sports radio. Whatever the show was I’m guessing they have his interview in their achieves.

This is why you want to avoid running backs, centers, guards, safeties and linebackers in the first round and lean into QB, LT, DE, DT, WR, and corner in the first round.
March 7, 20223 yr I doubt we end up making 3 first round picks but if we do, they need to be among DE, CB, DT, OL, or WR.

I think this is significant because there is a March 22 deadline the Texans face with regard to guarantees in Watson's 2023 salary. So they may be really motivated to move him before that date. Obviously with his legal status up in the air, the price is likely to be a lot more negotiable.

March 7, 20223 yr 4 minutes ago, ManuManu said: Would speaking with Hardin he considered tampering? He’s not his agent, but still… I think discussing the legal strategy with the attorney is prudent. It likely was simply to get a feel of how long the process would take to play out. If Hardin told Howie that his client would be prepared to go all the way down the line through a civil trial instead of settling I believe that would have cooled the Eagles interest.
