Political agenda.  WTF are you talking about?  Everyone knows what’s looming and the risk involved.  No one needs you to come along and shed light on the Deshaun Watson story.  We all know.

And yet… you don’t understand the simple point and people still say the trade should happen…so, no.

So is this a defense of Hurts?  You're kind of making my point for me.

They know what he was and what he was good at.  But to think he didn't get coaching on his mechanics is insane.  From a mechanics/arm talent perspective....he's pretty much a finished product.  Which has nothing to do with "scheme".  He's a one read and run college style QB.

And his dad was a HS football coach (has coached at least 2 different HS teams) who was his coach when Jalen was in HS.  So he was in an environment of football from a coach's perspective almost around the clock.  He should have better fundamentals than what he has shown.

And to add on, this is the crutch often used to defend Hurts:  he's still developing.  OK, so why is Minshew the finished product and Hurts is still developing?  Minshew is 2 years and 83 days older than Hurts, has played 27 games in 3 seasons with 22 starts while Hurts in 2 seasons has 19 starts (has played in 30 games, but at least a handful of that is as a wildcat QB running gadget plays).  So really that's just 1 more season with 3 more starts, but people have declared Minshew a finished product who is what he is, but Hurts is still developing?  How much good coaching did Minshew get at Washington State?  I would think the coaching Hurts got at Alabama and Oklahoma was better than what Minshew got at WSU.  And Minshew played on one of the most recent historically worst teams in the NFL in the Jags.  Wonder who got better coaching their first 2 seasons in the NFL?

Vikings over the last couple years.  Cousin's is good enough to flirt with a playoff spot, maybe get you into the playoffs but not good enough to get you a playoff win.

Dont know if you want to blame it on Derrick Carr but he's a great example of being mediocre. Outside of his rookie year they've basically been 2nd or 3rd in the west resulting in a 10 to 20 draft pick each year.

Then my favorite... Tony Romo... they basically finished mid pack year after year except 1 or 2 outlier years

I would argue the bears. The Bears built up their defense to be really good. That eagles/bears playoff game where we won on a double doink. That bears team had a really good roster. And they went and got Mitchell Trubisky the previous year to be that piece that could put them over and be a Super Bowl contender. Except Mitchell Trubisky was not good enough to not win them a Super Bowl (after his rookie year went 12-4 one year and after 8-8 and 8-8)  but not bad enough for them to be horrible. Then because of that they had to trade their 2021 first and 2022 first (wound up being top 10 pick) to get Justin fields. who also might not be good enough either. Welcome to the bears QB purgatory

Locker room cancer. Getting rid of that changes culture big time.

My guess would be Jason Peters.

Define qb hell.

It seems like the common feeling is that Hurts is good enough to keep us from getting a top draft pick, but not good enough to win a Super Bowl.

I am trying to find a comparable example of a team in this position, since I think it is somewhat of a made up idea that everyone on here has just assumed is true without thinking it though.

So give me an example of a team that had a terrible qb but who was never in a position to upgrade in the draft.

Dalton with the Bengals.  The white Kirk Cousins.  The black Kirk Cousins.

QB hell is paying a QB a ton of money and making him the face of the franchise because you hope he's the one, but the warts are evident and you're hoping for an Eli Manning outcome.

We are not there yet because we haven't made the financial commitment.

All these people complaining about QB hell what were we supposed to do? Rodgers was never ever coming here 😂😂 I mean just stop. Wilson only would go to Denver. Jimmy G is a fing scrub. What were we "supposed” to do? Next year we have at least an opportunity to draft a real one outside of that I don’t get what we were supposed to do?

Do we? You're likely going to be saying the same thing, word for word, next year. "Seattle had more draft picks to move up for a QB. What were we supposed to do? Giants had a worse record and better draft pick to take a QB. What were we supposed to do? This draft class sucks, what are we supposed to do?"

If he pulls the plug, that likely makes Linderbaum #15.

Just when I think my opinion of him can't get any lower. No wonder Indy wants to dump him after 1 year.

What a self-absorbed a-hole. Good riddance.

I'm not arguing it's Hurts. Or that I see a clear answer in the draft. I just think if you're going to swing for the fences with a QB you better have a a good team around them.  I think our D in particular is at least a year and multiple high picks away there.

Eh I don't think we'd be clearly better than the cowboys with Wilson. Maybe sure but I think we just have too many holes right now to say for sure. I guess the bolded is my concern. I don't see us being able to absorb the draft and cap cost without crippling our chances going forward.

Now if Watson was a real possibility (legal stuff is resolved with no concerns) then maybe doing that for a 26 year old QB makes sense. Just don't think the older guys are worth it given the state of the team as is.

I don't think you can ever be in better shape than having 4 1st round picks and 2 2nd round picks in the next two years to absorb the cost of what it's going to take. I can buy not taking the risk with Wilson, I was more so generally speaking.

We aren't supposed to do anything...Howie is. You need QB to win so better hope and pray that next year has some good ones coming out and we have enough ammo by trading back this year to stockpile if that ends up being the case. Do you trust Howie to have the ammo and hit on the right QB next draft?

Given the QB landscape in the AFC, it's not clear that Denver will even make the playoffs next year.

That's why I was enthusiastic about the possibility of a QB upgrade here.

It's Rodgers....then who?

Then a large gap. Then Stafford. Then another large gap.

Minnesota could have drafted Mac Jones last year. So they were in position to draft a qb

They drafted 9th in 2011. QBs were taken 8th and 10th.

This is my issue. These teams in "qb hell" were all in a position to draft other qbs had they wanted to. But they were there voluntarily.

So I really need better examples.

Exactly. If the Eagles go 8-9 or 9-8 again they are very likely going to have to maneuver their way up the draft to get the quarterback they covet it (assuming they go that route to get the QB).  Because where they are picking they are likely not have the quarterback they truly want fall to them or sit around waiting for it to happen (based off fear of missing out on him and being jumped for him). So you’re gonna have to give up picks to move up the draft when you don’t have great assets anymore. Add on theu don’t have the best assets because there might be another team like Seattle who has more and better assets. Add on there might not be a team willing to trade back with you so can move up and get that quarterback. And if you want to go to the trade market to get that quarterback, you’re still gonna pay a premium price like the Broncos did and you still might have the problem of not having the best assets or somebody doesn’t want to come here.

Hence there’s always a chance they get stuck in a QB purgatory. I’m pretty every team that is currently in one (was in one for a while) didn’t think it would happen to them either.
