Sounds like Kyler Murray is done. Baker Mayfield should just kill himself. Trevor Lawrence should give up now. Jalen Hurts should go play in Canada. If you took Wentz's body of work, and just changed his name people would be all about him and be more than ok to have him on their team. I dont get it Yeah I don't think he's "done". But he's decidedly average. And that's fine, I guess. But Murray does suck, he starts hot every year and then declines massively. Mayfield is horrible, but I don't wish suicide on him. TLaw was a rookie, odd to throw him in. And even though we don't want Hurts here in Canada, he would actually thrive in the CFL. 3500 yards in 17 games isn't good, IMO. It's not bad, it's just....average, at best.

And in that mock, the Eagles land the Detroit 2023 pick, which would be 100% the ideal scenario. Trade back to 32 (keep the 5th year option, and even keep the option to trade back a little more from there for a team looking to acquire that last 5th year option for a player... AND get what will likely be a premier (best case top 5, worst case top 10) pick from Detroit.

For me, his value is Round 3, not higher. And as a 3rd round pick, he can be brought along slowly where he's working day in and day out on his pocket awareness, pocket mobility and throwing the ball with proper mechanics from the pocket. I'd tie his legs together with a bungee in shotgun formation so that he can't actually run, and make him do the subtle pocket movements needed to maneuver within the pocket. And I'd keep him off the field in a game situation (outside of preseason) until he figured that stuff out. (And in PS, he'd be told that he needs to throw the ball away rather than run, even if there's a giant lane to run through. We know he can run, he needs to learn how to play NFL QB, not NCAA QB.) But, some will see the arm talent potential, and jump the gun. I doubt he's on the board at #15, and almost certainly won't still be on the board in Round 2, some team at the top of Round 2 will likely make the leap up and take him in Round 1, just like the Ravens did with Lamar. And, there's some logic there, because as a late 1, you still get that 5th year of control, whereas in Round 2, you only get 4 years. But, it wouldn't make sense for me to make that selection until Round 3. Too many players available in Rounds 1 and 2 that you'd be passing over to take that big a boom/bust risk. Because if he is a boom QB it’s all very much worth it. Draft is a lottery and a top QB usually the jackpot even though the chances aren’t actually all that great. But just because it’s usually good to trade back and get more picks you sometimes can’t and every once in a while you should just cash in your winning ticket.

March 10, 20223 yr Cycling back to the mock from Matt Alkire. He double dips at DE with Karlaftis at #16 and then Ojabo at #19. This intrigues me with the Gannon line shift being much more 3-4 in alignment with the 4i than a more traditional 4-3 with the 3-technique DTs and the DEs out wider. Karlaftis might be the best 4i style DE in this draft (or at least in the first round)... and Ojabo would fit much better at that wide-9 aligned DE than most of the other options. Bringing in Karlaftis to play the strong side DE in the 4i, and allowing Ojabo to play the wide 9 role makes a lot of sense. The alignment would allow Karlaftis and Graham to rotate at 4i, and Ojabo and Sweat to rotate at wide-9. I don't love this as the top two picks, but I don't hate it either.

Karlaftis would be the best option for a 4i provided Walker is gone. He has some impressive power rushes.

The presumption being the 'winning' part of this. The erratic running QB that puts it all together in the pros is a unicorn. Yes, if they boom it is very much worth it. Willis will likely have some team salivating over his raw skill set. But, those teams that do that, also often times get enamored with the non-sustainable tools they bring to the NFL and neglect the development in the passing game, and you, much more often than not, end up with the bust version, not the boom. The boom requires careful planning and will power, which is usually what those teams lack, which is why they jump on the boom/bust pick, rather than waiting.
