I’d really have to be sold on Watson’s complete innocence for me to be able to get behind not only a trade giving up assets, but just rooting for him in general. Even if most of these women are full of ish, 22 is a heck of a lot of accusations. It’s hard to believe there’s not SOMETHING to them.

i love my eagles, but I’m not sure watching them win is worth all this. Especially if he comes here and underperforms.

Winning a Super Bowl with Nick Foles felt really good. If Watson is a scumbag, I think winning one with him would feel cheap. But that’s probably just me

Not just you.

It would be so Howie to miss on Watson, and then give up 3 #1's next draft to trade up for CJ Stroud who Fing blows.

I’ll be surprised if the Eagles have more than one first round pick next draft — and that’s assuming they don’t get Watson

Watching a guy in college take plays off would be an indicator of something negative regarding competitiveness... conversely watching a guy like George Pickens destroy defenders blocking them would be an indication of grittiness (though, he might have some anger issues too!).

Unlike basing everything on an interview like in a 9-5 job, we can see these players in game situations in a variety of situations and allow folks to get a better sense of their mental toughness.   It's good to see a guy in adversity to see how he responds to it.

That is such a small, small part of it.

Yes, you want to see how a player does on the field (does he take off plays? how does he handle controversy? What if there were no hard times during the player's career?) but there is so much more to it that we the fans will never see or understand.

How does this player gel with other players? Does he perform better with hard coaching or soft coaching? How well will he handle questions from the media? If he grew up in a small town and went to school in a small town, how would he handle a city atmosphere? Will they try to learn more and get better or will they ignore learning?

Is he a leader or a follower? Does he play better with a chip on his shoulder or not?

Even all of this is a very small part of the evaluation process. You have to weigh all this and then add talent in there. Is this person's talent too good that you think you can bring them in and change them? Then you have to hope that they do not change once they are on a team.

That is why it is so hard to judge some of these kids. They might have all the talent in the world, but the pressure of being the guy on a team can crumble come of them. I mean you see it all the time. A player comes in, has high praise, and then gets hurt in the NFL. Then he doesn't know how to handle it and the next thing you know he is no longer playing football. Just look at Kevin White.

Absolute carnage in Ponte Vedre today! Wow!

Of course, which is why they talk to the coaches, other players, etc.

BTW... generally, no talent is too good that you can bring them in and change them.

To this point, I never want them to ever again take a chance on a player who isn’t mentally strong, no matter how talented they are. We’ve been burned too many times. Jordan Davis is that example for me this year. People question his drive and passion, and say he takes plays off. No thanks. He’s a freak athlete. He may be a HOF talent. Not worth the risk to me.

Danny Watkins, Carson, JJAW, Reagor, etc. all these guys never lived up to their talent because they’re mentally weak. We gotta stop. We get really into looking at players’ film or workout numbers, but the reason they fail usually has nothing to do with that.

Fans scoff at intangibles, but there's a reason an undersized 6th rd pick like Kelce becomes a HOF player.

One reason is that a lot of improvement requires hard work and discipline, from the weight room to the film room to the practice field. And the ones that continually improve through their pro career (until age finally catches up to them) maintain a high level of work ethic throughout their career.

A lot of players aren't wired that way, they work hard to some extent, but once they have a few million in their bank account, their primary motivation is satiated, and they find it hard to recapture the fire of their late teens - the ones who keep improving tend to be internally driven and highly competitive.

And then there are the genetically gifted, who glide on their talents at lower levels, but don't have the drive to work on their game as the level of competition increases.

Do they?

I know it's a sign I'm getting old and crotchety, but I really get annoyed at the "player X added/removed Y from their social media" stuff that happens nowadays.
