I really don't get how people say Hurts has earned the starting gig. It was given to him and he didn't really do anything over the course of the season to show improvement and that he can improve even more.

That's a good perspective coming from someone who's been an Eagle and who's been replaced by the Eagles.  I could hear Howie's voice in the words he used to describe the call.

This is my train of thought too.  He did absolutely nothing to earn the job.  There was no training camp battle or mini camps to shows progression.  He was handed the starting role and as you alluded to, showed next to nothing in terms of improvement as the season went on.

Cosell's main points are on... point.

#1 does not naturally see the field particularly well

#2 tends to be a beat late with a lot of throws

#3 very reactive to pressure and breaks down in the pocket and looks to leave when there's not really pressure by NFL standards

#4 ball placement is a week to week and even a play to play issue

 

lol, Caplan asked Cosell if Hurts can get better with anticipation and timing and Cosell basically says its not impossible but highly unlikely.

BTW, I wouldn't bet against Ridder if the Eagles drafted him.  Something magical about the Cincinnati connection.
