I hate to break this to you ..... but, Hurts is pretty much at his ceiling.

Maybe that's why he squats when in shotgun. Doesn't wanna hit his head when he stands up.

Yup. Watson is 26 years old, you have legit 10 year window to put a Superbowl roster around him. If that's not a long term fix, I don't know what is.

For comparative purposes, Pickett is soon to be 24 years old and Wentz is 29.

If you can't see the difference between Jalen Hurts as a passer and Deshaun Watson as a passer, then you're helpless.  You wanna talk about Ceilings?  Ok, so Hurts hasn't reach his ceiling yet, great.  The problem is, that his ceiling is about half as high as Deshaun Watson's.

Listen, I am not arguing that we should go after Watson.  I said last year, when we made the trades to acquire more picks it was to have the ammo to go after Watson.  I have never argued that we should get him.  I have been pretty indifferent on the idea.  But to compare their "ceilings" is ludacris.  And stop with the "hasn't won the playoffs" crap with Watson.  That's just irrelevant.  You think the Rams thought the same about Stafford?

This is where I’m coming from. I said this the other day if you want to say you don’t wanna because he’s a scumbag or you don’t want to because the compensation is going to be ridiculous then I can understand that.

However his talent and putting him in this offense and saying he’s not gonna be good or able to elevate this offense to another level is it’s complete utter bs. Let me just point somethings out, the Houston Texans have had a bottom 1/3 offensive line in the league since he’s come into the league in 2017. This is it just me saying that because I watch Deshaun Watson but pff and ESPN (pass and run block win rate metrics) have had them bottom 1/3 in the league. So you’re telling me the Eagles who have top 10 offensive line if not top-five is not a significant upgrade for him? I am pretty sure that’s going to be a major upgrade

then go to the running game they have a they had lamar Miller to start. He was very solid for them. And every year after that the talent has declined. Because in 2019 He had Carlos Hyde who I’m gonna go on a limb and say Miles Sanders is better than Carlos Hyde. And then in 2020 they had David Johnson who’s been done for about 2-3 years now. The cardinals greatly appreciated the Texans taking david Johnson. So I would argue the Eagles running attack because they have a better offensive line and better talent at the position is also going to help Deshaun Watson

now let’s go check out what the Tight end position looked like for the Houston Texans over the last five years. Here are the names Stephen Anderson, Ryan malleck, CJ fedorowicz, Jordan Atkins, Jordan Thomas, Ryan griffin, Darren fells and pharaoh brown. None of those guys are remotely close to how good Dallas Goedert could be with Deshaun Watson and had become this year. So that is also a significant upgrade.

The only position you the Houston Texans happen much better than the Philadelphia eagles are right now is that wide receiver. And I would argue that Devonta Smith would be even better if we had a quarterback that could get him the ball consistently and on time. And utilize him more. And I can still add a wide receiver and I also think Watkins would be even better with a better quarterback. So it’s not like the Eagles have trash at wide receiver where Deshaun Watson would just be horrible. frankly he is going to make your wide receivers that you do have better.

this is not me saying go get Deshaun Watson at any cost. That’s not what I’m saying. What I am saying is if you don’t want to because of the off the field issues and the cost that it’s gonna take to get him that I can understand more but this theory he’s not that good and he’s not gonna make our offense that much better is erroneous on all counts.

Also this thing he hasn’t won anything? He’s dealing with a dysfunctional organization. Legitimately they fired as head coach and GM midseason. They hired a coach just a fire him a year later. They traded away Deandre Hopkins for a broken down running back with a bad contract and a second round pick. And a crap owner. So he’s dealing with that dysfunction going on. I would add a HC that really was pretty mediocre. they were 24-0 over KC in a playoff game (should’ve been more but O’Brien decided to be an dope with his calls and decisions. and eventually it completely collapsed. Don’t get me wrong watson was part of that and also at fault but the coaching decisions in that game really hurt the Houston Texans). Like you said The Rams didn’t concern themselves with the fact that Matt Stafford had only been in like 2-3 playoff games and he never won anything. If there’s a quarterback that you believe can be elevate your offense to another level that’s what matters. Because what he did not do in Houston with a dysfunctional organization (like Stafford with the lions) does not mean that’s what is going to happen with the eagles.

No, I don't think they will have enough draft capital or cap space to build a defense if they spend it on acquiring Watson. Watson has a $40 million cap hit in 2022 and $42 million in 2023, they are not only going to have to use high picks to get him but are going to have to sign him to an extension. Or you take the massive cap hits and you only have him for 2 years before you can cut him.

How are you going to add pieces to the defense with less draft capital and no cap space? Is it worth doing all of that for 2 years of Watson?

I don't think he's been convicted of anything so far?

I'm never going to meet Watson, he'll never meet my family, I'll never buy his jersey, I'll have no interaction with him at all, except for Sundays when he's our QB (Assuming we acquire him). And in 5-10 years, he won't be around anymore, and I'll have even less to do with him then. So yeah, I don't really care about what he does, if he's given the green light by the league to play football, then I'm good with that.

Again, I said I understand why people wouldn't want him for off field reasons. I simply don't care about them. I would gladly welcome Tyreek Hill and Kareem Hunt on the team as well.

I get it, the league is littered with dudes that Do a lot of questionable things, and a lot of that is common knowledge or reported recorded in the media, see no evil hear no evil sorta thing, so it's tough to draw the line and personally Im not going to go out of my way to advocate or support guys that I "know" are documented turds.

Watson is a turd by all accounts, it's difficult for me to discount 20+ women.

If it came out after the dude was retired which often happens with slot if players than I think it would be more in line with your example of heros disappointing those who follow them.

In this case though Watson has already disappointed people and the hero worship continues which I'm not down with.

Like I said yesterday if the eagles acquired Watson I wouldn't stop watching but I wouldn't be happy.

Flyers are making history.  What they did is hard to accomplish in an entire season, let alone half a season.  How about that shut down goalie, Carter Hart?

They're 13 wins and 27 losses, 27th in goals per game and 26th in PP.  Hart has a .912 save percentage.

They have much much bigger problems.  General Manager being at the top of the list.  Every roster move he made in the offseason was horrific; of course the team was going to be bad.

The only move the flyers made this off-season that has remotely worked out for them was a cam Atkinson trade. Because everyone in the world knew Ryan Ellis was injury prone. There’s a reason why Nashville wanted to trade him and was willing to give him up. Because he never stays healthy. And guess what? He isn’t. And then you add in they made the trade with the Sabres was the sabres must’ve been jumping up and down because they got great compensation for Him. This doesn’t even bring in some of the moves they made in the past like Kevin hayes who’s overpaid and overrated.

Well, 101 pages in and caught up in the Blog.  Few thoughts

Eagles are in the second year of a three year rebuild.  Making the playoffs doesn’t fool anyone. Now is not the time for a Wilson (under contract with the Seahawks) or Rodgers.  Watson has his issues to work out and the cost is too high.   Yes, Howie and Sirianni said Hurts is the QB.  He is until something better comes along. I fully expect the team to do its due diligence on all the available QBs for this year and next.   In today’s college schemes, don’t base potential on just college play but on the dynamics and skill of the player.  Hurts has proven to be what he was projected to be so far.  I have said, many times, I am not sure they can fix his speed to read or running tendencies   But who knows what players might be out there at lesser colleges.  Dustin Crum, for example.  Eagles will do a lot of scouting.

Losing four or five starters on the D that was bad as it was.  Howie will make some free agent signings but don’t expect this defense to be fixed in a year.  Now some interesting pieces need to be considered.  McPhearson had the year of sharpening many third day DBs need.  Vincent, Gowan got that too plus able to shake off the sitting out a year rust.  Wallace in year three of S so make or break for him.  Williams looks like a keeper.  Real curious about Taylor.  Gannon is a much better DC than credited but with what he had on the DL and at LB with over the hill Ss, he couldn’t do what he wanted.  Hope he stays but if not, some very good DC candidates on the market.

Glad they publicly and privately read Reagor the riot act.  He may make it to camp as a sunk cost but he is on a short string.  He needs to realize, this isn’t just his last chance at the Eagles but another year like this one and he is labeled a bust and out of football.

Eagles need another TE and to improve the depth at WR.  They need to extend Scott but also deepen the RB room.  Hopefully Gainwell takes the next step but neither he nor Scott are more than depth.   Eagles need a bruiser.   I like Stoll as a blocker but he can be upgraded.

Eagles need to fix G.  Driscoll, Seumalo and Brooks can’t stay healthy and Herbig is not good enough. Opeta is worse.  I wouldn’t be surprised if Stoutland gets two picks

The mocks are fun but unrealistic.  They have players misevaluated all over the place.   The scouts are way ahead of us and highlights mislead.  But playing the mocks should make it clear, the holes aren’t going to be fixed in one offseason of free agency or draft.

6 minutes ago, 4for4EaglesNest said:

No there is not enough potential there.  The only reason why he'll be around next year is because the draft class is so weak.  If there was a Trevor Lawrence or someone close to being comparable, this wouldn't even be a discussion.

If you don't think the FO wasn't accumulating draft picks to get a real QB either in the draft or to go after Watson, then you haven't been paying attention.  That's exactly why they did it.  They just assumed/hoped the Watson deal would have been cleaned up by now.

I'm not going to argue that Hurts is great, will be great etc etc. I will agree that the only reason many believe Hurts should be the starter next year is because of the limited options available. But if this draft class is so weak...as you admit, then why reach with our picks this year when most believe next years draft will be better.

5 minutes ago, 4for4EaglesNest said:

Ok...and again.....what does it matter if his ceiling is half as high as a player like Deshaun Watson.  That's what I meant when I said "the discussion Hurt's ceiling compared to Watson's".  I never said you made that comparison.  It's was where the conversation was evolving to.

But since it never evolved to that, that would be considered a "Straw Man" argument.  You basically started arguing a point that I never made.

He is going to make me do it...

The free agent signings and trades have been bad.  The drafting has been bad.  The goalie is overrated.  Special teams stinks.  The coaching is terrible.  The management and FO is terrible.  The culture is terrible.  The entire Flyers organization is a joke.  And until you diehards stop going to games, buying their merchandise and defending this team, nothing will change!

I pointed this out about five months ago the contract Deshaun Watson has it set up that’s after 2021 Texans or any team were going to restructure it so that you could create cap space and lower his cap number. So this he’s going to be making $40 million in 2020 is not necessarily going to be the case.

Additionally I also pointed out in 2023 the Philadelphia eagles are going to have $82 million in cap space (currently). And that doesn’t include some of the guys they’re going to release to gain space and they don’t really have a whole bunch of guys they need to extend after the 2022 season. The draft class from 2019 that would need to be extended is only Miles Sanders. Cause you’re not resigning Dillard or JJAW.

I've raised this point before, but with Brady at 45 and Rodgers getting up there in age and potentially out to the AFC, Watson can be the front-runner to be the best QB in the NFC going forward.

How much is too much to have the best QB in the conference? What rookie LB or DB would you rather have over the top QB in your conference?

The AFC is a shark tank for the next decade because all the young top QBs are over there, with one future exception: Watson. We can own the NFC going forward like in the Reid/McNabb days.

This I wholeheartedly agree with. Watson here gives us the 3rd best QB in the conference next year with room to move up as Brady and Rodgers fade. The AFC...shudder. Mahomes, Burrow, Herbert, Allen...stacked.

I’ve also brought this up in the past when talking about the quarterback situation. The NFC lacks long term stability at QB as compared to the afc.

if Rodgers is traded to someone like the Denver Broncos, then the next best quarterback after Brady is then Wilson. And their was a report on Monday Wilson wants to explore his options with other teams. So hypothetically if Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson are traded out of the NFC, the best quarterback is by far Tom Brady. And then after him the next three are Matt Stafford, Dak Prescott and Kyler Murray.

The AFC hypothetically next year could have Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, lamar jackson and Derek carr. Comparatively to the nfc it would be brady (assuming he doesn’t retire), Stafford, dak and murray. Frankly it’s another reason why if i were rodgers I’d rather stay in GB.

Oh I agree with you. I was just making a point the only guy you would remotely think about extending after 2022 from that draft class is Miles Sanders.  you really don’t have a bunch of guys on this roster you’re willing to extend at the moment or need too. Now you might want to be able to go in free agency and get guys but you have $72 million as of right now before you clear probably more cap space for 2023. And people are forgetting the new TV contract kicks in in 2023 so the cap is supposed to go up significantly over the next couple years
