DeShon Elliott is probably my next target at safety. Peppers, Harrison, and Tartt could be good too.

Really reaching the bottom of the barrel now

On one hand, we are dangerously close to running it back with McLeod and Harris as likely one year stopgaps at safety. On the other, I think that's a borderline silly contract the Saints gave to a 29 year old S who tore his achilles late in the season. I figured Maye would be one of those bargain one year deals for around 5 million. The silly nature of the WR and S markets has really Fed the Eagles.

I don’t think Mathieu is going to come here.

If the money is right, he just might

Man… that sucks. Such a good group of FA safeties too…

Honey Badger - Would love it but they aren't paying big money for a 30 year old S

Peppers - Not a fit

Edmunds - Not a fit

McLeod - Meh

Harris - Meh

Tart - Meh

Elliott - Young but still kind of meh

Eagles probably had Williams way above the rest in terms of fit and age and decided to spend money elsewhere when they couldn't get him.

Again, if no Watson, the Eagles aren't doing crap in 2022 anyway, so they can address safety next year.

Yes he was. You’re the first person I’ve encountered to say otherwise. So either you’re right and everyone else is wrong, or?

You'd be surprised.  IIRC it was well over half the blog here that didn't want any part of him in the first...even with a trade back from our already trade back.

We’ll sign Landon Collins for some reason

They haven't addressed S since Jenkins left. Eventually they can't keep putting a band aid on the position with one year average stop gap options.

He would be a terrible fit in this defense.

Would be fine as a WLB tbh…

It would be equal or more than Marcus Williams. If they were close but not willing to spend that much on a 25 year old I don’t see them going crazy for an almost 30 year old.

Eagles probably need to address safety quickly or else they’ll be going into the draft with two major holes there. Guessing we see McLeod re-signed

Their secondary is what as it currently stands?

It is incredible that people are not more alarmed about it and that POS Howie has his thumb shoved up his backside over it.

Yeah, overpay for Mathieu. I think that’s the move. Bring back McLeod too. I still think they should draft a safety high after that also

I'd rather not get Mathieu

Agreed, but if their goal is to get a young stud who can be part of their future for 5+ years, then they probably aren't going to force it since 2022 isn't an all-in year. Mathieu is a really good player. Also getting up there in age and likely a 2 year guy on a team that isn't close to contending. He doesn't make a ton of sense unless you can make a move at QB and become a contender.

I said it before FA began, I had a feeling Marcus Epps would be a Week 1 starter.

Don't forget about Kearse at Safety

https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/eagles/nfl-free-agency-2022-after-wave-safety-signings-whats-left-eagles

Tyrann Mathieu (Age: 30) He’s going to be expensive but we know he’s going to be leaving Kansas City after they signed Reid. He might not be a long-term fix like some of these younger players but he’s still an absolute playmaker and would transform the Eagles’ defense. Still, this seems unlikely.

Terrell Edmunds (Age: 25) Because of his age, Edmunds might be the best bet for a long-term contract. He’s a former first-round pick who hasn’t exactly lived up to that in Pittsburgh but he has been durable and another team is going to give him a chance. The problem here is that he might be more of a strong safety, in-the-box type of player and that’s not necessarily what we think the Eagles will be looking for.

Jayron Kearse (Age: 28) Kearse played in Dallas last season on a cheap one-year deal and played really well, playing in 16 games with 15 starts. It was the best season of his six-year career. But will other teams believe that’s the norm?

Ronnie Harrison (Age: 24) The former third-round pick just finished his fourth NFL season and has played in 51 games with 40 starts in his career, although he has missed games. An important note here is that the Jaguars were the team that drafted him and former Jags GM Dave Caldwell works in the Eagles’ front office now.

DeShon Elliott (Age: 24) This would have to be a one-year deal for Elliott, who has looked good when he can actually stay on the field. The problem is that he’s really struggled with that. He played all 16 games in 2020 but missed the entire 2018 season and played a total of 12 games in his other two NFL seasons. To make this worth it, Elliott would have to come cheap.

Rodney McLeod (Age: 31) The Eagles should leave this possibility open. McLeod is getting older but the further he got away from that ACL injury last season, he played better. He seems to have something left and has really grown into his role as a team leader. Bringing him back on a one-year deal worth around $4 million seems fair.

Anthony Harris (Age: 30) It seems less likely that the Eagles bring Harris back for a second season, but it’s not a crazy thought. He didn’t really stand out much in 2021 but there’s a level of familiarity here the Eagles could fall back on.

They really need to sign two guys to go along with Epps or they will once again have zero depth at the position, even IF they draft one.

Interested to see what happens to Winston and Mariota once the Watson/Mayfield/Garropolo dust settles

McLeod coming back is basically a lock at this point

Lol

Wanna bum yourself out?

The Eagles were oh so close to coming away with Haason Reddick, Calvin Ridley, and Marcus Williams as their free agent/trade hauls.

That would've been the best beginning to an offseason in Eagles history.
