McLeod coming back is basically a lock at this point

I would agree. So assuming that happens they have one decent stop gap starter, and a nice 3rd guy in Epps. Epps would be adequate starting if they had a stud opposite him but they won't.

Here’s a write up from PFF’s top FAs…

https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-2022-free-agent-rankings-free-agency

Ronnie Harrison

Scheme Fit/Role:
ROTATIONAL/SPOT STARTING SAFETY: Harrison should really only be playing over tight ends and in the box against running backs, a near prototypical down safety type. In a system like New England's always looking to field extra safety-type bodies, he would fit in perfectly given his abilities.

Jabrill Peppers

Scheme Fit/Role:
ROTATIONAL SAFETY: At this stage of his career, it's unfair to hold the expectation from Michigan against Peppers, but it's hard not to think about. Peppers' skill set fits best near the line of scrimmage in a Jamal Adams kind of role, but his movement skills don't do enough to make up for size disadvantages, and he's a liability in man coverage.

Deshon Elliott

Scheme Fit/Role:
ROTATIONAL SAFETY/SPOT STARTER: Deshon Elliott carried an unenviable task of trying to cover for an injured and thin secondary, but he's capable enough to fulfill his responsibilities. Playing in the middle of the field or dropping over tight ends, he's a safety that can fill a hole in the secondary.

Terrell Edmonds

Scheme Fit/Role:
MARGINAL STARTING SAFETY: Terrell Edmunds was a surprise first-round draft pick when the Steelers selected him in 2018, and while he has been a starter during his rookie contract, he has not excelled in any area. Typically not a liability, he has been low on the kind of playmaking teams want at the position.

Jayron Kearse

Scheme Fit/Role:
MATCHUP SS: Kearse is at his best using his size and length to cover tight ends one-on-one as the answer to how that position has developed in recent years. He has the size to combat those bigger bodies and the coverage skills to go man-to-man. Teams that play a lot of man coverage or matchup zone should consider him specifically for that assignment.

I mean there’s still the draft, trades, surprise cuts, etc. I’m at least encouraged to see they know there’s a need to upgrade there. Now it’s just…how to do it.

So the better versions of Hurts are losing their job as we stick with Hurts to see how much further he can progress.

Who do we acquire then? I think stuck is the better word.

They don't generally invest big contracts, high drafts, or trade assets in the position. It's not exactly LB levels of being devalued but they have shown to be fine with average players there more often than not. They just happened to get lucky with Jenkins for that stretch he was here.

Rodney McLeod initially was a big investment. His 5-year, $37M wasn’t anything to sneeze at.

Baker to LV and Carr to PHI? Carr is arguably a top 5 QB in the NFC. He’s far outside that in the AFC.

Really starting to think they draft someone early at this point. Not saying it’s the right decision, but what do you do when two good/great QBs don’t even want to give you the time of day and next year you will have even less assets to work with.

He’s barely top 5 in the AFC West.

Wouldn’t hate that. I think Carr is good, don’t understand the hate he gets. I watched a lot of Raiders football this year, he’s solid.

That was a long time ago. They haven't used a 1st or 2nd round pick on, or signed a big time free agent S in several years.

Curious if they are silent Watson suitors or "monitoring the situation”. There was a quick blurb about extending Carr but nothing since.

I don’t want any of these safeties tbh. Maybe Mathieu, but probably won’t want his price tag.

Gotta assume McLeod is brought back for another year and they draft one by the end of day 2. Still leaves us thin.

I agree. I like him too. I’d take him here in a heartbeat for the right price. He’d go from 4th best QB in the AFC West to top QB in the NFC East.

Would not be shocked if Eagles grab him in Rd 1.

Don't worry you will get Kenny Pickett

Yea just makes you wonder what price tag would be. I don’t care about cap implications, if New Orleans can acquire Watson then Eagles could certainly take on Carr. What do you give up in trade? Is the 19th pick too much or not enough? That’s problem I’m having right now lol

Depends on what Watson gets and where he goes.

Considering what Wentz went for the past two offseasons, Carr should cost a minimum of two 1s.

I agree. Would be between the Wentz and Wilson deals. For him, this would be bar none the best OL he’s ever had in front of him.

I still have this sneaking suspicion that Howie will make a move for Kyler.

Hurts and 2 picks.
