So that party that just bragged about passing a federal bill banning lynching is crying about state governments passing unneeded legislation.

  • You live in Florida? I do. Things are getting worse here, and they were already bad before I got here. You had basically a center right political system (*chef’s kiss*), crime was an issue but it

Oh he cured it?

So why is he appealing the mask mandate?  Theres nothing left to cure

And why have there been many more deaths under Biden than Trump?  Shouldnt he resign?   He flew right by 200k deaths

It's not Biden's fault a third of the country is unvaccinated because they're stupid. Also not his fault that the GQP is far more likely to be willing to commit mass ritual suicide out of fealty to a game show host who stares at solar eclipses.

He made a joke about "enjoying himself" at Disney.  Its called humor.

I said "ourselves", as in our family, you illiterate hillbilly.

Funny how the supposed conservatives have no conservative values.

They're not conservative anymore and haven't been for a while.  They're big government socially conservative fascists.  Basically, they're the worst of all worlds.

Gosh, I don't want to be known as a "big government socially conservative fascist." I guess I have to support public school teachers' right to talk to 5-year-olds about gender fluidity against their parents' wishes. Thanks for the heads up!

I realize you have to pretend like I'm talking about the bill itself and not FL Republicans using the power of the government to punish a business that excessing it's free speech, but you're not fooling anyone.

Oh no, a state removing special privileges that it gives to a business so that said business is now treated like every other business is surely a sign of big government fascism!

This is why you are called an NPC.

  "The government should punish businesses for daring to publicly disagree with them" is exactly the kind of hot take you'd expect from a principled conservative.  Don't make me post the screenshot.

It is definitely not a fallacy that kindergarteners are highly impressionable and shouldnt have an adult in a position of authority-- who is often with them more than their parents-- discussing totally inappropriate topics with them.  Especially when theyre just supposed to be teaching them how to read and write and do math

Remember when we all agreed on this like 5 years ago?

Let the teachers do their work. They don't need confusing laws messing them up and screwing with their lesson plans. Who know more how to teach to Kindergartners? Kindergarten teachers? Or some politicians in Tallahassee? Keep your politics out of the classroom. I believe things such as government overreach and book bans are bad ideas.

Oh no, surely fascism has come because Disney is now being treated by the government like *squints* every other business in the state.

That this is the biggest piece of the story to you is just perfect.

Who better than to teach your 5 year old about gender fluidity and sexual positions than this person?

I don't know, tool, that's a fantastic question.

I love it how you guys have completely dropped the pretext of being conservative, but are still triggered when someone tells you you're in no way conservative.

And, yes, obviously the government attacking free speech is the biggest part of the story, along with them dumping a billion dollars on the Florida taxpayer.  I can't imagine how retarded you'd have to be to think otherwise.

You aren't a conservative if you don't think Disney should be afforded special privileges in Florida!

Honestly, even though I find the opinion abhorrent, at least toolg has the testosterone necessary to say "yes, I think freak public school teachers should talk about sex and gender fluidity with 5 year olds" instead of doing these mental jumping jacks to turn the conversation into what kind of tax breaks Disney no longer gets. Like, who really gives an ish? Disney isn't going anywhere.

This whole discussion just perfectly encapsulates the elevation of style over substance in politics to a nauseating degree.

1. As I have repeatedly said, I couldn't care less about this law. Maybe it's unnecessary, but it basically enforces a policy that most people see as completely rational -- don't talk to young kids about these things in school (leave it to the parents). But the left goes bananas and makes it an issue because...they are idiots dedicated to walking into every culture war trap. They shame and bully Disney into taking a position.

2. So now the GOP in Florida is going to "punish" Disney by revoking their special district and...assuming over $1 billion in debt off their books while assuming the cost of providing services. So to own the libs, they will hurt their own taxpayers. Disney will now have to pay some taxes and get normal approvals for building new sites, but stock analysts uniformly view this as being a complete non-event. So this doesn't impact Disney but slams taxpayers. Genius.

Basically, Democrats act like idiots, and Republicans say hold my beer.

Sure. But it took over 100 years for Congress to pass an anti-lynching bill.... So let's compromise on the issue. It should ruminate for a century before we go out and pass a bill.

Agreed, but the difference is the 1st is just rhetoric, no matter how stupid.  The 2nd is the state using it's power to punish a business/the taxpayers.  The two are miles apart.

I feel like Disney has been all-in on LGBTQ issues for awhile now. I don't think anyone bullied them into taking this position. I think they've long seen it as good for business and good for their professional culture and community engagement, probably not the least of which has to do with how many gay/trans employees they have and how many of these people inhabit Florida. If anything, this might be working the other way around, with an overexposed corporation like Disney using their influence to push our politics further left.

Dude, stop. They were getting massacred when they first came out and said they wouldn't take a position.

The Walt Disney Company has now come out against Florida's Parental Rights In Education bill. The so-called 'Don't Say Gay' bill was passed by Florida's House and Senate and is headed to Gov. Ron DeSantis' desk.

The bill would limit discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity in schools.

In recent days, Disney employees shared their outrage on social media when the company did not denounce the proposed legislation. On Wednesday, at Disney's annual meeting with shareholders, Disney CEO Bob Chapek acknowledged their anger, saying that he knows "many are upset that we didn't speak out against the bill."

Chapek explained that Disney leaders were opposed to the bill "from the outset, but we chose not to take a public position on it because we thought we could be more effective working behind-the-scenes, engaging directly with lawmakers — on both sides of the aisle."

Now, Chapek said the company is "reassessing our approach to advocacy — including political giving in Florida and beyond."

Chapek said that he called Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Wednesday morning, "to express our disappointment and concern that if the legislation becomes law, it could be used to unfairly target gay, lesbian, non-binary and transgender kids and families." Chapek says DeSantis has agreed to meet with him and some of Disney's LGBTQ+ employees to hear their concerns.

On March 7, Chapek sent employees a letter saying that Disney would take no position on the proposed legislation, though he affirmed the company’s support for LGBTQIA+ rights. He wrote, "As we have seen time and again, corporate statements do very little to change outcomes or minds. Instead, they are often weaponized by one side or the other to further divide and inflame.”
