I honestly haven't read the bill, but from what I understand, there is a lot of grey area in what qualifies as "teaching."

i think people are going nuts over this bill because they already dug themselves into their political trenches and will not listen.

something the D's and R's share equally IMO.

  • You live in Florida? I do. Things are getting worse here, and they were already bad before I got here. You had basically a center right political system (*chef’s kiss*), crime was an issue but it

A word like "encourage" is open to being widely interpreted, though.

I honestly can't comprehend how bad a school teacher would have to be at his/her job to be unable to prevent a group of 5-7 year-olds from turning a classroom discussion into a discussion about gender identity and sexuality.

That is true. But your example would not apply.

I would think the application of the bill could really only legally be directed at curriculum or policy.

Personally, I think the bill is a non issue. The bill and the media reaction is just both sides revving up their mindless bases to bicker with one another.

Political hand grenade

repugs have no real issues to stand behind so they play the imaginary culture wars game. desantis seems to be pretty good at it.

It's totally imaginary. That's why everyone from Hollywood actors to the literal president of the united states is compelled to speak out against it.

Being an NPC must be getting harder and harder these days.

Maybe I'm missing something but in what situation would a school need to disclose the sexual orientation of a student to their parents?  Are school calling parents to let them know their daughter likes deek ALOT?

Lol. Florida.

According to vanhammersly, they have to lose their crap over it because "it contains gay stuff." That's seriously all he can muster.

who's losing their what now?

So far Van has contributed the same meme twice, and "gay stuff".  Another solid performance.  Right on par with "but OJ"

If you don't want your kids to get any of that school learnin', don't send them to school.

School learning should be the entire focus

trying to shift social norms? Not so much

Let's go ahead and change that!

Not wanting 5 year olds to be indoctrinated into gender ideology lessons by purple haired ishlib freaks seems like a pretty good issue to "stand behind."

It's not happening anywhere, but there's tons of footage from all over the country of it happening:

It seems like a big enough deal that this should get its own thread. I guess the biggest question is, why is it so important for Dems to sexually groom children from kindergarten through 3rd grade?

Why the media campaign to lie about what's in the bill? For ishlibs, does it ever get weird seeing the media make a concerted effort to blatantly lie to you, or is it just SOP at this point?

Both sides lie to their side so they have that in common lol

The bill seems to just be a political tool, like most things anymore. The actual content of it isn't very significant. A school district cannot encourage discussion of sexuality and gender in the classroom at those young ages. That's fine, I don't really want a 2nd grade teacher actively discussing these things with my child anyway, regardless of their political beliefs one way or the other. Having and encouraging classroom discussions regarding gender and sexuality and being inclusive and acknowledging that these things exist in society are quite different.

A reasonable defense against this bill is that it is unnecessary. There are plenty of things I don't want discussed in the classroom my child is in at that age, do we need a bill for each topic? Most are common sense.

Probably. There are teachers that will go off script

Mandated pride parades in elementary schools. But yeah, it's not happening anywhere anyway. What a waste of time this bill is.
