  • You live in Florida? I do. Things are getting worse here, and they were already bad before I got here. You had basically a center right political system (*chef’s kiss*), crime was an issue but it

Disney (consumers) will be on the hook for the expenses. Now there's a middle man (government) with oversight in place to make certain the evil corporation isn't cutting corners and putting the public at risk.

Likely route will be an "amusement tax" like there is most anywhere else. Even Hershey went that route a few years back.

Democrats should be feeling safer already. 👌

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

Again.

https://www.wesh.com/article/reedy-creek-improvement-district/39779429

It is an over $160,000,000 obligation, which officials say they do not have the money to cover.

"Worst case scenario, Orange County's going to find themselves in a $163 million dollar hole that they've got to fill that they may not even be able to fill with property taxes even if they raised it to the maximum level allowed," Randolph said.

According to Randolph, the county needs to plan for the possibility of Reedy Creek going away in order to be prepared.

"That's a net sum loss for the rest of the taxpayers of Orange County," Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said. "If we had to take over the first response and public safety components for Reedy Creek with no new revenue, that would be catastrophic for our budget in Orange County. It would put an undue burden on the rest of the taxpayers in Orange County, to fill that gap."

Officials claim even if they raised taxes as high as they could, it still may not be enough.

"Orange County's government may have to raise property taxes 20 to 25 percent, and I'm not even sure they could do that because they may hit the mileage cap under state law," Randolph said.

Demings claims even with the legislature's vote, the future of Reedy Creek is still unclear.

As a result, it's too soon to know what the county may or may not have to do.

"The devil's in the detail and we quite simply today do not have the details," Demings said.

It was a reporter from Orlando that posted it. I’ll try and find it.

Earlier it was posted that this may get struck down before it’s even a thing - a few hours later the dude who’s an expert on amusement park rides comes in and says the taxes have already been raised

Oh and look at that, straight from the mouth of the Tax Collector for Orange County.

So they haven’t ‘’already stated that next year property taxes will go up by 25% for everyone. ’’.  Thanks.

Did you read the article? The tax collector literally stated that they’re going to have to raise property taxes for everyone.

You do?

May I suggest you try putting some Fing post together that might display this self professed intellect of yours.

Should be entertaining.

I can't make you read and comprehend the words.

Hmm. I guess cross dressing is ok for Republicans as long as Dems don't say gay. Just ask this guy.

May be an image of 3 people and text that says 'BREAKING NEWS: New photos obtained by Politico appear to show Congressman Madison Cawthorn wearing women's lingerie. Cawthorn recently accused fellow Republicans of attending cocaine orgies. IS THE REPUBLICAN PARTY "THE PARTY OF FAMILY VALUES"? OCCUPY DEMOCRATS -BRIAN TYLER COHEN'

I did read the article, and no he didn’t. He cried some alarmist claims that were not what you said. And tax ‘’tax collectors’’ don’t make policy.

  You know Desantis has the fascist stamp of approval when the whole alt-right desperately flails around, trying to justify an eminent massive tax increase. That kind of cult devotion is normally reserved for Trump

If I had to choose a side, yeah I guess I’m taking tax increases over child grooming.  But you do you, Van

Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings says the financial impact on his county could be "catastrophic."

"We have a very unique situation with Reedy Creek and the Walt Disney conglomerate," said Demings, the former Orange County sheriff and former Orlando police chief. "Reedy Creek paid 100% of the cost of the law enforcement services that are provided by the Orange County Sheriff's Office. They provide 100% of the calls of their own fire rescue and emergency response department. Their own 911 call center. They provide 100% of the cost."

I don't know if they are pet groomers at Disney or not.

Yeah, the context of those lessons is mathematical modeling of bias.

It's unfortunate that racial prejudice by political affiliation makes for a strong real world application of mathematical models measuring bias, but I for one think communicating facts to students is a pretty important part of education.

Some seek to want to suppress uncomfortable facts. Sucks for them.

No. That's a different story, separate from "don't say gay".

The pushback on the "Don't Say Gay" bill is a stupid trap dems are falling into again. I have some serious doubts about whether that legislation is necessary, but it's Republicans again using legislation to pick a fight with the left and the left can't resist falling into it. Stupid.

The math textbooks rejected by Florida were not for "5 year olds", they were across the age groups. Many appear to be rejected on grounds of using common core, which is also a stupid reason to reject a book but that's a separate item. Others are being rejected because they actually try to coach kids into channeling their emotions effectively as part of the learning process, which again is apparently too "woke" for the "everything that is different and weird is woke" right.

Among the (as far as I can tell) very few that were rejected on "CRT" grounds was this one discussing mathematical models of bias, which I would have to assume is an advanced math textbook for high school level students. Again, the right didn't like it because it uses real world examples with facts they don't much car for.

Yes, the rejections came from three possible categories with common core the one that seemed to generate the bannings. I haven’t seen any CRT based banning for material aimed at the 5-8 yr olds yet though fair to say that I haven’t been digging in looking for it. The right laid a trap and the left has taken the bait. That includes several posters in here.

btw - The test referenced in the results example in the banned book isn’t a test that is generally accepted as delivering facts. It is a highly debated manner of measurement at this stage.

Texas judge invites Disney World to relocate, calls Florida authoritarian & anti-business

In the midst of DeSantis’ feud with the Disney Company, Fort Bend County Judge JP George, the chief executive officer of Fort Bend County, Texas, wrote a letter inviting the company to relocate to his area and avoid "authoritarian, anti-business, and culture war attacks from extremists in Florida.”

The letter, addressed to CEO Bob Chapek, promoted his county as an ideal location for the large amounts of purchasable land and its strategic location in the state of Texas.

"In fact, major employers like Amazon, Texas Instruments, Comcast, Gallery Furniture, and others have recently made vast investments in our community including thousands of good paying jobs with many more employers on the way,” George wrote.
